The way that men treated his horses and the way they treated him says it all. A truly great human being in a savior to our country when we most needed one.

I’m watching this in July,2022 and I’m thouroughly amazed! Will we ever have a President who isn’t afraid to do the same chores he always did? We never see this side of their life anymore! It’s only them leaving the White House to hop on a plane to somewhere! I have so much respect for this man!

Away from the drain of politics his ranch was his passion. Like most people who went through the Depression and witnessed the toll it took on his dad and him and the neighbors around him, those Midwestern sensibilities never left him even when Hollywood discovered him. That work ethic was baked into Reagan's character from childhood, and Rancho Del Cielo was where he went to channel it into something productive. It was his therapy. He enjoyed politics but Rancho was his refuge when Washington got rough & tumble, as it typically does. You can hear his frustration early in the clip with the demands on his time and attention when what he needed in the moment was the diversion of good ol' fashioned LABOR. We've all been there. Now, he could've been a diva and barked at his ranch managers and staff, but even while venting he treated his people with respect and deference. They don't make 'em like this man anymore; we're too far removed from the depths of an economic depression and the horror of a world war that impacted every last American at the time. People like Reagan are why we've had it so good for so long; the problem is we've had it so good for so long. Our latest couple of generations think their lives are terrible and it's someone else's fault and are looking for a bull in a china shop to come save the day, when what we need is someone with the character and confidence and optimism of Ronald Reagan, who knew it wasn't up to _government_ to fix things, that We The People are up to the challenge and government needs only to work _alongside_ us, not _over_ us, and let us tackle it. I so miss this stellar human being there are no words.

As a limousine driver, I had opportunity to drive some people to that ranch. I will never forget that at the very top - I believe it was the site of the old helicopter pad - there was an abundance of wild flowers, and two horses always grazing there - one for the President and one for his wife.

The people should have driven themselves. My tax money probably had to pay for that.

The story goes that during the Presidential campaign in 1980 President Reagan would have someone drive him to the ranch whenever he was in California--even if it meant only being able to spend just a few hours there. It was observed that several of his horses would come running over to him when they heard his voice as they loved him that much

Another stupid story. Horses don't do that. They could give two horseshits about people. Reagan was maybe a nice guy but his horses didn't care about him. Total bullshit.

Nice to see President Reagan enjoying personal time while doing his 'everyday' ranch activities; whether shoeing a horse or using a chain saw for a fence. I'm sure he, the First Lady, staff, Seabees and dignified visitors really enjoyed their time at Rancho del Cielo. It's great his activities for a day in 1982 were filmed for the historical record. Thanks for the video, Reagan Presidential Library!

Nancy Reagan didn't like being at the Ranch but did so because President Reagan loved being there. Often while President Reagan was working around the ranch Mrs. Reagan would be inside on the phone with friends (Time Magazine article January 1981)

@@rosebarnwell6016 the media and liberals tried their best to denigrate President Reagan. When they failed they picked on Mrs. Reagan with more success. After he got out of office, they doubled down to the point wherein he asked, "have they blamed me for original sin yet?" Always the optimist, when asked if he became discouraged at the seeming success of the attempt to blacken his accomplishments , he said that history would clear all that up. I hope he doesn't know that the books children are taught from in schools list him as our oldest president who fell asleep during meetings. Can only hope and pray that someday he will be accurately remembered.

You should read "How Ronald Reagan changed my life" by Peter Robinson. Peter was a very young speech writer for Reagan and actually wrote the tear down this wall speech. The book is a fantastic read

@@tcarroll3954 Thanks for the info, he really worked hard to bring peace to the world during the Cold War, I remember him calling the USSR the evil empire but going on to work with Mikhail Gorbachev to stop the arms race.
