God, I would love to know the exact specifics behind the scenes of this performance. Everything from Carl sticking incredibly close to Brian whenever Reagan goes up (clearly trying to make sure nothing goes wrong), Brian being incredibly agitated before Rock n Roll Music, Mike holding the First Lady’s hand for waaaay too long, and Dennis looking like shit. Early 80s Beach Boys were so fucking chaotic Also does Carl say “Quiet Brian!” at 25:13 or am I crazy??

@Angel You're not crazy. Brian was wacked out of his mind and was angry their performance was going to be cut because they started late. I'm going to copy and paste my previous comment, rather than re-type it... The drama starts at 22:34 . Brian seems increasingly upset that the president and Nancy are focusing all of the attention to Mike and ignoring him and Carl on the other side. Dennis eventually comes over and puts his arms around Carl and Brian in solidarity to calm Brian down. When they start leaving the stage it looks like Dennis is talking to the president to explain that there's been a misunderstanding. Then Mike and Bruce seem to also tell the president there's a problem. The president makes a nervous joke and calls everyone back to perform more songs. You can hear Brian screaming at 24:27 "I want to do another one." He's not playing. He's mad for real.

Mike and Denny's relationship was strained to the max at this point. He seemed to be embarrassed by Denny's disheveled appearance/behavior that day, so he tried pulling him back to keep him out of view as best as he could. Dennis drank heavily the day of their white house apperance and just looking at him you can tell he was in trouble. RIP DENNIS CARL WILSON.

I don’t think it’s that. Brian was standing on the opposite side where Reagan was giving his attention and Carl stood with Brian to hang with him - supportive and measured as always. Dennis is higher than Georgia Pine and bouncing around telling Reagan they’re up for playing another tune. Meanwhile, Love is all over Nancy…geez! Always loved Dennis, but his manic, stop/start drum bashing style is always cringeworthy.

I was 16 years old at the time and I attended their concert that day at RFK Stadium before their performance there at the White House later that day. This was a great moment in this bands history that once again re-launch their career back into the national spotlight with the James Watt Beach Boy controversy. Sadly, six months later Dennis would be dead. God bless The Beach Boys and and our new Greatest president ever President Trump 💪🇺🇸MAGA

Sheesh, I'd having given Mike Love twice over to have Denni and Carl alive, the story of the beachboys is so beautiful and adventurous yet so tragically what it is, long live the magic and music of the BEACH BOYS and the brothers-Wilson and Al Jardine! Peace and Love (respect to Mike and Bruce too, but you can tell when Mike sort of over stays his scenery chewing incomprehensible verbosity. His contribution and vocal iconic sound for so many songs are undeniable, but even if he remotely caused a single domino of insecurity and non-encouragement toward Brian as he was exploring the pissibilities of production and songwriting proceeding from Pet Sounds to the SMiLE project, and theres all theres legitimately great unreleased fan compiled approximated or accurate bootleg albums one is called Adault/Child, another is a mix from the Caribou sessions, if the execs released those and let the legacy grow, instead of say, the MIU album, anyway I digress, I have respect and love them all. I just think of all the people who are insufferable teetotalers (or always spoke against 'Brian or Carls or Dennis' "drug use"' but never gave accountability to his own actions or issues of managability like when he was on a total juice diet and began not getting the correct nutrition and managment almsot had to puthim in a straight jacket to get him to the doctor because Mike had been so sure that any and all "western medicine is bad" but then again, suppose it's only rock n roll but I like it :D

In my estimation, Landy was definitely a shady character, but he did bring Brian back to a reasonable level of health. Maybe his off the wall and controversial therapy could have helped Dennis?

The band reportedly intended to have Dennis be treated by Landy but he died before it happened. Even then, I seriously don’t think he would’ve stayed for it. Dennis was a very free spirit whereas Brian was/is very much a people pleaser. You yell at him and he’ll roll over and accept it whereas Dennis wouldn’t take shit from anybody. I seriously believe if Landy pulled anything funny, Dennis would’ve thrown hands over it whereas Brian at the stage was a very delicate and fragile person. It’s sad to say but I think the only person who could help Dennis was himself, but he refused to do that

@@officialFredDurstfanclubyep. Unfortunately he was at the only person is yourself state. As was Brian psychologically. I feel Dennis had more of the addict heavy rage where Brian had more of the psychotic rage that drugs just fueled but didn’t kill.
