She is not as impartial as she claims. In "No Ordinary Time" she paints FDR as master of any room and its conversation, then claims the opposite when convenient, saying he was bullied on Japaneese internment.

Oh how I feel her soul. Headed right now to go put my father on hospice. He was born in 1933 (the same year Hitler came to power) and is a 90 year old Korean War Vet. I am going to write his story I have been researching for years now. His father’s family dates back to the Natchez District in 1802 when Thomas Jefferson was President. His mother’s family goes back to the early 1700’s in French Louisiana before America was America. They were Cooks and Blacksmiths during slavery. I have a photo of my dad at 3 years old being held in the arms of his grandmother born in 1886. Her father was the mulatto son of his plantation owner written about in Chapter 9 of the book 12 Years A Slave. What a journey in American history I’ve gone through with this research. His ancestors served in every war in US History and every single generation worked hard, were good citizens and agitated for change to make America even better. His Uncle was in the Civil Rights movement with MLK. We will keep their love, faith and optimism alive for future generations as they pass the torch.

To all the people criticizing Doris for supposedly saying "the peaceful transition of power might not happen in November," if you actually listen to what she really said starting at 27:13 she never used those worrds. What said the concession speech of the losing Republican candidate (in this case, Trump) is what she's worried won't happen in November. She was talking about the vital importance of concession speeches right after election day. She was not talking about Jan 20, inauguration day.

Thanks for highlighting this. The network must know better than to title it the way they did-that’s so irresponsible. I'm 59 and have similar sentiments. I think regardless of what happens in the next few years, the mounting pressure from below, from those holding the least power, will overwhelm, in time, the corrupt intrenched power that refuses to give up their power. Demographics is working against this power, and the ability of this regime grows weaker by the day, regardless of everything else. Even should a fascism win in the short run, the win will be tentative and temporarary. I take comfort in that, while also believing the forces of fascism are also likely to never hold the reigns to begin with. They have bitten off more than they can swallow in their desperation and they are choking on it even as I write this. They just don't know it yet.

The big problem in America is when there are people who consider that this lady spouts words of wisdom out of her fundamentalist, fanatic and ignorant mouth. @juanpc3852
@juanpc3852 Ай бұрын
@@janetives5470 Ok, let's talk about silly, simple minded and reality. It's incredible how the ignorance propagated by media like NBC can triumph. It is a mixture between not understanding the basic rules of logic (syllogisms, propositions, analytical judgments, fallacies...) and fundamentalism, fanaticism and intolerance disguised as pious pretensions. In the name of saving democracy, we legitimize the prosecution process with the ultimate goal of imprisoning a candidate for President of the USA by applying criminal offenses to non-criminal behavior. There is no room for greater cynicism or greater immorality. We are so sure that our ideas are ethically correct that we will legitimize all means to achieve them. Democracy does not usually end because a demagogue comes to power and wants to have control over the population (Hitler, Lenin, Mussolini, Hugo Chávez...), democracy has historically ended when an elitist caste has decided that they should be the ones. that control people's decisions. This is what happened in classical Athens and this is what happens now. Max Born said in his manual of atomic physics that all the problems in the world can be summarized in that someone believes they completely know the truth. These people take their neighbor like the tamer takes the lions in a circus, they want to tell us exactly what our "objective interests" of class, race, gender are.... They only believe in democracy as long as they continue to rule. They have a teleological vision of history according to which this is a fight between progressives and reactionaries who want to remove us from our kingdom of acquired rights. It is a children's narrative. Reality does not accept such flat dysologies. The Hegelian evolution and Aristotelian logic are placed far above such circumstantial elements as social class, the color of your skin or gender. Truly, if this civilization ends up collapsing, we, our ignorance and arrogance will have been the only ones responsible.

Being able to be held accountable, to have integrity, empathy, respect for our fellow man, honor, and compassion for others. These are the virtues of a valued leader. As a Boomer, I was brought up to believe that we had a responsinility to our famies, our towns, our country, and to each other. This is why I was deeply shocked when in high school a very popular history teacher started lecturing us on being independent. He was saying we don't owe our allegiance to anyone but ourselves. He taught that we owe nothing to our families, towns, or even our country. A few years later, I heard the same things in college from a Sociology teacher, that we don't owe anyone and we educate ourselves to get assets from money and we shouldn't be giving anything to anyone else. I think Ayan Rand and her philosophy of selfishness has been intentionally infused into society to break us up and make us loyal to the system of corporate profit-taking.

Yes, for me it's on all sides of my family, Polish, Russian, Scottish, French/Dutch.... If you're not indigenous you're immigrant..... Mine we all immigrant within the last two generations and in every generation there are some immigrants that are fervently hated, In my aunts era it was Russians that were hated and she pretended she was French when she went to school. Someday it will be your turn.... Your family will be the hated one depending on what's going on. If we end in a war and your family background comes from one of the hated nations you'll be hated too, your dog may be shot, or you may, just because your family immigrated to America. It's happened so many times before and we people are what we are.... We can hate for wrong ( ie. Political, prejudiced,) reasons. And in spite of the fact that some may say they believe in God and the Bible, they seem still able to hate immigrants( ie "foreign residents") even though in that book, God is telling us that we... MUST.... love the foreign resident and do good to them..... And he refers to those who harm them as the "wicked"! There's no way God approves of hatred for immigrants.... He says they must be treated with love! Yes we are all immigrants. Even indigenous peoples came from somewhere.... But we needn't worry, the future won't allow hatred to do it's typical' wickedness'..... In the "new earth" soon to come, with "the conclusion" of this "system of things" there will be no more suffering, no more tears! ie. The best is yet to come! (see, Matthew 24 :3,14 & 6:9,10 / Daniel 2 :44 / Revelation 11 :18 &..... 21 :1-5, in the Bible!)

As of 2024 I would venture to say that most of the American population are children or grandchildren of immigrants who came here legally with not a cent and went through the legal process to become American citizens! America was founded by immigrants and I am a grandson of both my grandparents who was born in America which makes me an instant American citizen! My grandparents came here legally through Ellis island and worked 7 days a week to survive and eventually studied and met the qualifications and passed the exam to become Legal American Citizens! I don’t hate documented immigrants or undocumented immigrants! But I do dislike any government official that has disrespected those who came here legally by allowing millions to come here illegally! It’s very simple…either come here legally like millions did in the early 1900’s or you can’t enter! And the fact that they are being given the privilege to register to vote before they are legal American citizens is the real definition of a threat to democracy!

Doris Kearns Goodwin is a national treasure! She represents the best of America, unlike the Republican nominee 🌊💙🌊💙🌊🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🗳🗽

The big problem in America is when there are people who consider that this lady spouts words of wisdom out of her fundamentalist, fanatic and ignorant mouth. But be careful, she is a "reputed historian" in academic circles and in the media. Let's cling to the fallacy of authority whenever we can, it always sneaks in.

@@RustToStardustIf that is indeed your answer, you have what you deserve, to be in a segment of people in permanent adolescence who have to consume the garbage of NBC, who use language as a sounding board for feelings instead of as a vehicle for translation of objective information.

@@juanpc3852 She has lived through it and was involved. Unlike everyone today because of Internet and negative Republicans THINK they know everything without real research and fact checking. That kind of thinking can bring a country down. Vote Blue 💙💙💙

@@juanpc3852 The immature Republicans is what you are talking about about. As the throw fits over everything and nothing but power is really the only thing they want without the wisdom to handle Christ and take care of it.

I have been having the chilly thought that if the ex-president returns to the White House, i must accept peacefully the transfer of power to him.
@user-ze9jw8zu2x
@user-ze9jw8zu2x Ай бұрын
Trump did NOT accept the peaceful transition of power, and started a RIOT at the Capitol all because he commanded his followers to forge conterfieit elector documents and submit them to Vice-president Pence for him to count instead of the official State certified documents, and the VP wouldn't do it. That's a flagrant, right-in-your face CRIME! Who, in their right mind, WOULD feel comfortable surrendering control of our country back to someone as corrupt as that? The Supreme Court had a Constitutional requirement to block this man from ever running for office again under the 14th Amendment, and they failed in thier duty because, they too are corrupt with three of them appointed by Trump himself and one other of them having a wife who was an integral member of the insurrection plot and fake-elector scheme. This is what she means by"we can't look for heros, we must look to ourselves." We need to do everything in our power to help Biden win, and win big. Get the vote out. Donate to the Biden campaign. Vote! Trump is such a walking disaster area, he nearly destroyed the government and our economy, and allowed hundreds of thousands of Americans to DIE because he kept denying that COVID was happening to us during a time when he was supposed to be taking charge from his position of leadership to get the epidemic contained. Instead, he repeatedly told us over and over again that it would "go away all by itself when the weather gets warmer." And that "everything will be back to normal by Easter." When she says the most important attribute of a president is character, believe it! Trump has no ethics, values, scruples, or trustworthiness. What he HAS is egomania and selfishness.

As a high school senior I canvassed for Gene McCarthy. The '68 Democratic convention and the vicious treatment on the streets and in the hall by the 'old guard' Dems radicalized me more than the reactionary Republicans. Yeah, I voted for Humphrey as the 'lesser of two weevils', a pattern of choice presented to me many times since.

The title is misleading. She does not say Biden won't transfer power if he loses. She said essentially that if Trump loses, he will not admit that he lost. Concession speeches are also a part of the peaceful transition of power.
