[PRESS CONFERENCE] Lawrence Wong announces changes to Cabinet

Singapore’s next Prime Minister Lawrence Wong unveiled his Cabinet at a press conference on Monday (May 13), with Minister for Trade and Industry Gan Kim Yong to be appointed as Deputy Prime Minister. READ MORE: str.sg/dnhG
Heng Swee Keat will remain as Deputy Prime Minister, but Mr Gan will be the acting PM in the PM’s absence.
Mr Wong, flanked by Mr Gan and Mr Heng, said he sought to balance the need for continuity and renewal in assembling his Cabinet.

because they have a choice not to..? the current term is not due until Nov 2025, and there is no constitution that states that any change in ministerial positions/appointments can only be effected by an election. tl;dr, they are just doing whatever they think is the best course for them within the constitutions.

Appreciate repeated questions since I believe the questions were vetted in advance and they are not allowed to change as the interview progresses. At least, take it as another opportunity for you to voice what you might have missed out earlier.

I agree Anziar. Many good people are also coming forward to serve. 4G has to continue to grow the pie for all of us. Personally i think 4G will have to look at upskilling amongst my generation the Majulah cohort. We want to continue to work and play at the same time especially when they kids have already grew up. Almost every retired Enciks and madams in my industry has already start seeing medical problem. We are not all zen, vegans or yoga people. So I still bet on work and play.

By promoting GKY and keeping HSK, it signals dominance of 3G team, lack of confidence in 4G team, power struggles, and distrust within the PAP. Singaporeans must know that this is not about continuity of government, but hold on power by LHL and his 3G team. LW is just another tool. In exchange to become the next PM, LW will promise to keep 3G team in charge. LW is also making use of this opportunity to sideline his fiercest competitors, CCS and OYK. Do not trust PAP. Do not vote PAP. Make LW a one term PM

Already told him to use Josephine Teo as the next DPM. Confirm no risk of repeating the same mistake of having a DPM who is far capable and sophisticated than the PM. Ha ha ha!
