Easy fix to Australia's rugby problem. Get rid of Franchises, leave SANZAAR, make club rugby professional. Have each state play their club rugby competition, top 4 from each state go into a national competition. The problem with Super Rugby is that these franchises have no sentiment from Rugby fans. They will not feel the same sentiment for the Waratahs like they would towards their local club down the road. The reason NRL does so well and the fans are passionate is because these clubs have been there for 100+ years before they became professional, their name might have changed from Easts to Sydney Roosters but they're still the same club. On a deeper level, we should scrap Junior footy and cap it at U12, everything from U13 - U18 should be played in schools in a wider schoolboys competition. This keeps the talent pool playing high level footy, whilst also preparing them for senior footy in the best environment. Also keeping the talent pool in schools makes it easier to track talent and keep an even playing field for all clubs when scouting players, what do I mean? particular NRL clubs have monopolised the best talents by getting them into their system at a young age, and luring them by getting these kids into better schools, all paid for, and in return they repay these NRL clubs by choosing them over other rival clubs or rival sports. But having every kid playing schoolboy footy evens the plain, it's no longer an exclusive tournament for private or catholic schools, it's now an open competition for all of Australia. And playing schoolboys instead of junior club footy keeps allegiance away from a club because you played your junior footy there, and allows for more competition for each players signature so they can make the best decision for themselves, keeping the talent pool fair for all clubs. To really grow the game fast, get rid of salary caps, and allow club ownership, let the rich invest in the game, but put a financial committee together like football does called FFP (Financial Fair Play) that monitors each clubs financial activity to make sure they're doing the right thing. It takes money for any competition to thrive, you'd be stupid to reject such offers, for example, the All Blacks brand is owned by Manchester United owners INEOS as well as Altrad which is owned by French Billionaire Mohed Altrad which also sponsors French Rugby and Top 14. The community can grow the game, but it needs a financial boost to get it up and running. It can be done.

Some good points, but suggest a fact check. Manchester United aren't owned by Ineos. Are you referring to sponsors? As for rugby only being played in private schools, I would have to agree. But at the end of the day rugby is a truly international sport. NRL is severely restricted in that sense, but the local fans are indeed passionate, all be it very Aussie centric. Would be good to see Australian rugby get back into the top 8. But they need to sort out issues with a long-term view and not with a band aid approach.

@@cosmic_diver INEOS are minority shareholders of Manchester United whilst the Glazer family still hold majority shares. But football operations have been handed over to INEOS. I follow Man United and keep up with the news. They are not sponsors. The long term view is right there, bring the game back to club footy, inject money into it, and the community will do the rest. Australian rugby don't only lose top talent to NRL, AFL etc. But they also lose them to overseas competitions because there's not enough teams to play for in Super Rugby, and none of them want to slum it in club footy earning nothing whereas Japan, France, USA, and UK are willing to hire their services for top dollar. Why not right?

@@islander_kool_kat hopefully they will remain that way but doing it for two teams and not the other two teams would be a disavantage. Same for the Force it is Privately owned.
