It's not THAT old. I think it's made in the 70s. I think it's probably low budget, which is why it has "eerie" quality. Movies with, say, Marilyn Monroe or Audrey Hepburn are older.

Pretty good adaptation. At least in my opinion. I've seen several---the first was Roger Corman's classic 1960 version starring Vincent Price. Gothic horror is one of my favorite genres. Unfortunately, it's a rather lost cinematic art, most likely because there's no longer any audience for it among young people. Thanks for posting this !

It would be great to have a modern movie for the fall of the house of usher. It would be difficult to improve upon the performance of Vincent Price, but there is probably someone who could do a good rendition of Usher.

This is an adaptation which is rather nearer the original story than other versions. Although the plot is truncated, the sense of Gothic gloom and horror still comes across chillingly well. I'm unsure whether the location is meant to be In England or in USA in the film. In Poe's tale, it could have been either. Wherever it was, it doesn't detract from being such an effective story / film.

I remember being forced to read stuff like this when I was in 9th grade or something like that. I had just left 8th grade, going into 9th and I was forced to basically read stories by Edgar AllAn Poe for Summer reading 📖 & so during the Summer I was forced to read called “18 best stories by Edgar AllAn Poe.” I remember resenting it and not fulling understanding why I was required to read something so creepy and scary & I despised the book 📚📖. What a terrible adaption. There's just something about movies from the 70s that are godawful. The film serves its purpose though. There are better adaptions out there.
