Pressure Canner Repair - Replacing the Sealing Ring & Air Vent (Presto Part # 9907)

This particular sealing ring is specific to Presto manufactured brands. To find a sealing ring specific to your model, visit eReplacementParts.com.
If your pressure canner is showing any of these symptoms; replacing the sealing ring and air vent could solve your problem:
1) Steam leaking from pressure canner lid
2) Lid won’t seal tightly to pressure canner
3) The rubber seal is cracked or worn
4) Air vent not sealing or leaking steam
5) Rubber vent grommet worn or cracked
6) Unit not holding pressure

I finally got it !!! I have a 100 year old National 7 canner. I took out old seal. Then I used screw driver and inserted it into seal's crack and cleaned out 100 years of gunk. (scraping back & forth) The seal actually goes in the crack pretty deep (once it is cleaned. Thanks for instructions.

I never thought I would find a video to teach me how to change the sealing ring and air vent for a Sears and Roebuck Maid of Honor pressure canner but here it is! WOW!!! What are the odds. I am restoring a Maid of Honor from approx 1962 and this video helped tremendously. Thank You!!

Thank you!! I was doing a test run on my old pressure canner, and it would not build pressure. I found your video and discovered I had put the automatic air vent in upside down!!! Thankful for this video.

I had trouble so I put the lid and seal in some hot soapy water and finally got it on but it was still hard to do. It’s hard to get all the slack out of the seal but you can if you keep working it. It’s a very good tight fit!

FYI, the Presto manual says the old tilt gauge should be replaced. It’s a shame because I like the old tilted gauge, but I imagine it’s a safety issue. Thanks so much for this video.

Got a 70 year old Maid of Honor with cracked gasket, and this was a help. My biggest problem is getting behind the gasket.

I have the exact canner, I've been canning a lot freezer went down so I been canning hard, Canned last night, unable to twist the lid, ask let it set overnight,completely cool, trued again this morning, unable to turn them lid, Any Sudjection would Be Greatly Appreciated. Thank You.

I think my vent is metal can I replace with this rubber one?

For those changing really old vent plugs you should specify what to do with the wire clip(wire snap ring) on the inside that holds it in. Best guess is you throw it away since the new plug is designed to snap into the lid where the old one wasn't. Thus the wire clip is no longer needed. Had not found a verifier for this which is why I was here. Since installing it interferes with the weighted little piece in the middle of the new plug causing it to cock sideways it looks probable.

I think I have the same canner you demonstrated on. The Presto 7AV? If so, do you have any idea when that was first made or when it was stopped being made? I got mine from a yard sale and I'm going to be replacing the seal and vent, so your video was perfect! Very easy to follow! Thanks!

It looks like mine too. On the side of the canner lip, between where it says CLOSE & OPEN is a series of numbers. From what I understand, the numbers from left to right are the size, the week manufactured, then the year. Mine says “CLOSE 21 13 70 OPEN” So mine, I believe, is a 21 quart canner manufactured in the 13th week of 1970.

My gasket is not coming out like yours did. It is cracking off, leaving rubber behind in the crevice. Any tips to remove that easily?

NEVER USE STEEL TO PRY ALUMINIUM! for seal just use needle nose pliers on seal lip and pull it away from lid groove. ON THE PRESSURE PLUG, use wooden spoon handle to pop it out.

How do I check the model number? I am having a hard time because this is an old pressure canner. The number I have are in circles at the bottom of the pot. I need to buy a sealant that corresponds to the model number.
