I love how big and long your wand is in the way you move it around!
@preston72633 жыл бұрын
First time I've heard that vitally important instruction to raise up the wand when changing direction with the pressurized spray. I learned by making mistakes early in doing pressure washing about those start/stop lines. One tip for decks / patios is to start on the outside rails before cleaning the inner floor. If cleaning the inner floor first, then proceeding to clean from the outside of the deck pushes / sprays new dirt and stuff onto the newly cleaned floor surface. It would be easier, I think in most cases perhaps, to spray anything off clean rails after cleaning the floor last...than otherwise.

Do you believe 2700 psi enough for a project like this?
@preston72633 жыл бұрын
@@CreamCobblerFiend Yeah, possibly too much depending on the type of wood. One way to check is spray a small area from approximately 6 inches off the surface. The area can be where it is not easily seen, such as underneath if it's a raised deck high enough off the ground, or under one of the railing top panels (what you lean on while standing on the deck). If it doesn't clean it enough, then try moving up to a couple/few inches closer. But when starting, use detergent before going closer to the surface. I don't suggest using any type of bleach solution, as it can not only whiten (or discolor) the actual wood beneath the dirty surface stuff, it can also get absorbed into the wood fibers and potentially cause problems. Sodium percarbonate is one alternative, and look up a correct mix ratio to use it. Another one I've used and didn't have problems on a wood deck is called Krud Kutter, either the Fence & Deck one or the Multi-Purpose solution. Test it on a small area before using it on the entire deck, to be certain it works well. Be careful when applying detergent not to let it sit too long or it could absorb into the wood enough to where it is difficult to rinse, also making the cleaning possibly less effective. 5-10 minutes is usually suggested for various chemicals.

Yes, you are exactly right. The outside rails first, then inside rails, then floor last. Lots of water at the end for rinsing too helps.

Not only do you need to watch out for the start/stop lines, you also need to take care not to fuzzy up the wood. Too much pressure, tip too close, moving too slow, can all contribute to a fuzzy surface, which is not good for the wood.

I got that fuzzy serface because with the wand high the stain laughed at the washer. I basically did the deck four times. used yellow tip on real tough areas but mostly green tip. I 7sed a quality paint scrapper to remove the fuzzy stuff and then a hand sander to smooth it out. All because I put Behr Stain on which was more like a nasty paint then stain. PS only put one coat. never two or it gets too thick to remove.

We usually will sand lightly after the cleaning to remove these fibers.

So are you just using soap to clean the mildew and crud or are you using a stripper to remove old stain and paint?
@werestoredecks11002 жыл бұрын
We use deck stripper mixed with water for cleaning. It will also strip old really aged semi-transparent finishes but the mixture needs to be strong… less water. The x-jet ads 50 percent water to whatever you have in the bottle.

Do you use SH? Second, can I reduce the pressure in my machine? It's very high. I use SH only without soap, then I use the 25 degree nozzle but the pressure from my machine is very high and dangerous
@annapolislawncare3 жыл бұрын
We have experimented with straight sodium hydroxide, but we have found that its not as good as diluting deck stripper chemical. A good mixture would be 50% deck stripper 50% water and then a big squirt of dawn dish soap (this helps it cling to the surface). A good use for sodium hydroxide pellets is to have in the van as a backup, or to use it to "amp up" your mixture. Don't worry about turning down pressure on a machine, instead keep the tip further from the wood and avoid pointing it with angles to the surface. Also, if your able, experiment with different types of pressure washer tips. The green nozzles are our favorite, but a pressure tip will have a 4 digit number on the side. This second pair of numbers indicate the size of the orifice (hole size) A larger orifice will lower the pressure. Keep in mind that a pressure washer pumps a certain amount of water and therefore is designed with a certain size pressure tip. We use the 1540 which means 15 degrees with 4 GPM.
@kingsglobal62193 жыл бұрын
@@annapolislawncare thank you so so much. You've really helped me. My other question, my pressure doesn't spray chemicals. What could be the prob? I don't use downstream injector. The chemical pipe is connected directly to the pump
