El Pretérito Vs. El Imperfecto might be one of the first headaches Spanish students get. English doesn’t split the past into two and doing so can... well... hurt. So you won’t need any more Advil, here’s my best take on how to differentiate and familiarize yourself with what is it that separates one from the other. Let’s do this!

Thanks for the video. But, uh, no. Still not clear. This is why I only speak in the present tense. The volume of "rules" with Spanish is beginning to get so wearying that it is not even funny. I have pretty much lost most of my interest in becoming fluent in Spanish - I will speak in the present tense, and do the "gesturing" Spanish. That seems to work.

¡Gracias un mónton por clara explicación!La palabra "urbanización" era nueva para mi.Sé sinonimos como "barrio","vecindario" pero no la sabía.

Hola Maura, tengo una pregunta pero no es del asunto preterito o imperfecto. En este video, a 6:33, dices "Veia clases de espanol todos los martes". Yo no sabia que se usa el verbo 'ver' en este contexto. Me imaginaba que se usa el ver 'tomar' o 'tener'. Tambien se puede usar 'tomar' o 'tener' en este contexto? Tus videos son muy utiles. Muchas gracias!

no entiendo. por que en pregunta numero 3 se utilisan "Iba" ? No hay "cuando" como "used to". En esta frase la accion es completo. No?

Buen video. Hay un aspecto de tus explicaciones que no comprendo. Dices que se usa el imperfecto cuando ¨what you say isn´t true anymore¨, but just like it is still true that you called him, it is still true that ¨no había cupo¨. Or if I say, ¨Cuando me desperté esta mañana, hacía sol¨, tal vez todavía haga sol. No se sabe. Creo que no comprendo lo que quieres decir con ¨it isn´t true anymore¨.

@@MauraSpringSpanish los descuentos sin duda es una palabra en plural. La forma de haber en pasado (de ellos, ellas) es habían, no había. Había descuento o habían descuentos

@@iliamex Ahhh, entiendo. Es una excelente pregunta que no es nada fácil de explicar, pero lo intento. Se trata de la conjugación del verbo "Hay" no del verbo "Haber". "Hay" es un verbo impersonal que nunca incluye ni género, ni plural. Sin importar si es una cosa o varias, siempre se usa en singular. Así que: "Había una silla disponible." Y, "Había muchas sillas disponibles." ¡Espero que esto ayude!

@@MauraSpringSpanish vaya! Tuve que leer un poco sobre este tema y tengo que admitir que sí había descuentos es correcto. Pero su explicación es un poco rara. Es que "hay" en sí es una forma del verbo haber. De todos modos muchas gracias. Entendí el caso, es lo más importante 😊

@@iliamex Sí. Es una conjugación un poco rara del verbo ¨haber¨ porque hay las otras conjugaciones esperadas en el presente: ¨he, has, ha, hemos, habéis, han¨. También es cierto que algunas personas dicen ¨habían¨, pero no se considera correcto.
