This movie captures the essence of high school in the 80s absolutely perfectly. All of the fashion, the music. Talking on the phone with your girlfriends until the wee hours of the morning about boys, people at school. Direct contact with our friends. Not texting. Sitting together on a bed, putting on makeup, talking and laughing. Spending long hours playing records. It was another time.

Jon Cryer has spoken publicly in the past about how he was basically dismissed by Molly and Andrew because of a combination of being younger, less famous, and not a member of the 80's Brat Pack but in his defense he was excellent in this role. He played the ultimate tormented good guy forever trapped in the friend zone. If you were to look up trapped in the friend zone the first picture that should pop up deserves to be that of Duckie. Outstanding job Jon this movie would not have been a classic without you.

R R M I looked it up and your right, I’m sure it would appeal to John Hughs fans, the songs were very Footloose, you don’t see many musicals anymore, very underrated, but nowadays it’s not about the quality of the film it’s about the celebrities in it and what company made the film, for example it would probably be big if it was on Netflix, sad really, good films are still being made but you have to dig to find them, same with music, thanks for the suggestion, even though it wasn’t aimed at me

I came across your comment at the grief of love ones post here on KZfaq. ☹️That’s so touching and I know how it feels to be lonely without our love ones, we've all loss our love ones in death one way or the other, either a spouse, child, family members, or a true friend that meant the world to us, such is life I truly understand how you feel cos I’ve felt same unbearable experiences before but death is just inevitable no matter how hard we try! And we'll all have to face it someday, and every of our love ones we’ve loss will always want to see us happy again wherever they’re. I loss my oldest daughter Annabel February 24th 2020 in a crucial car accident, and she just turned 22 on her last birthday before she got knocked down by a moving vehicle 🚗 and so unlucky for me that horrible day the driver was drunk. That was the worst and most lamenting day of my whole life as a single Dad raising two kid's, my 17 years old son Clark and my 4 legged 🐶 families are my everything and the reason I still keep strong, and keep going! My late wife passed away three years ago from a shocking disease, I felt devastated with grief, and I was so heartbroken 💔 but God and time are indeed the best healers. Hope you’ve found peace, comfort and happiness again? I'd love to talk to you more if you don't mind! So it would be nice to get a reply from you when you got time okay. 🌹🌹

My best summer I ever had was the summer of 1983, between 10th and 11th grade. No cell phones...just a bunch of boys and girls hanging out at night. We used to pool hop all the time. It was so fun. Now, if you tried to pool hop you would be shot on the spot. And, forget about walking around at night without worry. So lucky to have been a teenager in the 1980s...

Wish we could bring back the 80's and 90's coolness. Those eras had that magical touch to them.

Me too! I was a late bloomer; couldn't get rid of my greasy skin and pimply face, stick-straight, fine hair that couldn't hold a style. But I met my first real boyfriend in the 90's and we're still together.

God I miss the 80’s… life was a lot simpler back then. No internet, no cell phones… at least if you were bullied you could kicked the crap out of them right there and then…love was a lot simpler as well… I will forever miss the best years of my life, being a teenage in the 80’s

i adore this movie with all my heart! i'm 15, and one of the only people around my school who's obsessed with older films, music, cars, fashion, and in general an old fashioned lifestyle. i find things to do other than hop on my phone right away, i take up my time with hobbies, and i don't have social media. I truly just want to live my life the way it was back then- but it's difficult to do considering nobody else is doing these things with me. sure it makes me odd, but i just wish so badly i could've lived during these times. Nothing beats the way these movies make me feel, i can't imagine actually being there.

John Hughes He knew music. He knew teenagers and teen-aged life. He knew situational humour. He knew how to present them cinematic-ally. John Hughes -- genius. May he rest in peace. (Ignorant critics killed his interest in 1991; he died of a heart attack in 2009, aged 59.)

Class of 1983 !!! Yes youth of today it really was that great. There was something electric to be a teen back in that time. it was innocent but not overly so. Having your friends full attention hanging out led to so awesome friendships. nobody was glaring at any type of screen, well maybe video games at the arcade. I remember running to the phone on our kitchen wall when my girlfriend was calling, now that's old school.I remember when computers and hand held phones were becoming popular I thought it was awesome Now I wish they never existed

Anyone in their teens to early 20's in the 80's should feel very special. The 80s were an incredible, fun loving, uncomplicated, awesome, magical and exciting time to be young and just starting out in world. I would hate to have been starting out in my early years during the 90s, 00s up to 21. These eras were the complete opposite to the 80s I feel so sorry for people growing up in these eras. The 80s were just mind blowing.

Jon has done a lot of good work since that film but over time his role is the one that has come to own the film. The others were very good too but the range Jon goes through is HUGE. And that breaking the wall at the end is classic. I understand why they re-shot the end after the test screenings - so she did not end up with Ducky - but I would not have minded if she did.

As a 10-year-old child the 80s began for me, at 19 as a young adult they came to an end. Growing up in the 80s was the best. Life was clear, simple and positive. Riding BMX, playing C-64, watching "The Fall Guy", hanging out with friends and listening to the best music ever, that was what counted......

We are the same age then. We had an Atari 800 with a sloppy disk drive. The cartridge games( ok ac man, galaxian, missile command, defender, etc) had the same graphics as in the arcades. We loved it. Damn, the music was of higher quality and overall very upbeat. The atmosphere of the era was reflected by this, be your best!!! We need that now!!!!
