Removal of federally mandated equipment like the catalytic converter is a federal crime. So why aren't the POS that steal them being charged federally?

I’ve got a better solution. Charge those committing the crimes with the actual sentence. Not 10% time then released back on the street!

Time for engineers to implement some kind of catalytic converter 'theft prevent engineering' on all new cars at the factory. They talk about people installing after market 'cages' around their converters, why not have something like that done by the car manufacture on the assembly line.

Someone tried to steel my buddy his cats from a tundra but he got beat beyond recognition. My buddy being from another country he wanted to cut the his hand off with the electric saw but we stopped him. But he got beating till the cops came.

Just putting an alarm that goes off is great. I like the idea of running a low but painful voltage through a metal plate the thief has to touch to get to the converter. Mean, yes. Illegal, probably. Effective, yup.

One guy figured it out -- When the thief was under the truck he triggered the auto step to come down and pin the thiefs legs to the ground -- all he had to do to get away was to saw his legs off... Yep -- caught cold.

Anything used to make it more difficult to steal also makes it also hard to service. The best way is just catch them red handed, give them a blindfold , a cigarette (if they smoke) and a last word. Dig a 8ft by 4t by 6ft hole in an unmarked remote location and...well you know the rest!

yes I guess you could use and or spend your money and do it the way that they did in this video or you could simply have the man at the muffler shop weld four pieces of 2 in long rebarb two pieces going in front of the catalytic converter on the pipe two pieces going the back of the catalytic converter attaching the pipe to the converter things look under there see that s*** and run away and go to the next easy vehicle trust me I live in California family owns a muffler shop we do it every day and I'm betting it's a heck of a lot cheaper than the method used in the video. As if you were go to my cousin's muffler shop for a catalytic converter he then offers and suggests to people to do what I just said only he does it for no charge you've already paid for the catalytic converter you've already been robbed in our opinion that's more than enough to have to pay

It'd be easier and less apt to mess up the paste if you threaded the strap through the converter plate first and folded it out of the way. Then apply the bonding paste and the rods, and unfold the strap over them.

The steel rods and u-bolts look good enough. They make a ton of noise cutting that pipe, sitting their sawing away endlessly will discourage them. As a contractor, cutting through cast iron drain pipe takes forever unless you have a special blade for it...then it takes slightly less than forever. If those hardened rods are the same or better than cast iron then that is all you need. Keep it simple and you will sell far more of them...likely with an increased profit margin.

Put a ground at the back of the system and a power at the front when the exhaust system is cut the alarm goes off. Get rid of all the other bull in between

I would think that similar spinning tube setups that they use to prevent police from cutting chains when people chain themselves to trees. So it might cut, but the surface would simply spin and make the thieves frustrated because it’s taking longer and maybe even noisier. An electrical shock seems a logical option. If thieves were to try to sue or press charges, I can’t imagine they’d have a case when they’d have to justify their reason for being under the vehicle.

Cat theft is rampant in my neighborhood right now. I'm gonna line my exhaust with: 1) A cat strap to stop sawzalls. 2) A bunch of old Kryptonite lock shackles to stop sawzalls. 3) A bunch of extra 2" steel (hard, sparky) tubes capped at each end, but full of fuel to "address" blow torches and grinders. If you cut through it you explode. So does the car. But blowing up a thief is totally worth the inconvenience and expense of blowing up my own car. 4) A trip wire connected to my Viper Smart Start so I can get an Iphone notification it's been cut, so I can run over to my car just in time to see the explosion and the thief catching fire, record the video and upload it to KZfaq! Or maybe I'll skip #1 and #2 so I'll more likely get to see the show! Sound good?

I thought this was going to be that tape that gums up saw blades and in the event of using a sawzall you can actually burn it out or get it stuck. I can’t recall what the tape was before anyone asks, but it gets super gummy and it heats up when trying to cut through it making it ridiculous. I think it’s a plumbing tape of some sort.

Just put strong caustic pepper spray in those cylinder tubes. When thief tries to cut through the small tubes, they end up gagging and coughing from the pepper spray.

Be especially wary if you have a truck or suv that you don't have to jack up to get under.

It's depressing to think that if you leave your car with the wrong dealer, they might well 'liberate' your catalytic converter, or maybe some of your airbags. The crooks figure you might never know, that is until you need them...

It's a sad world when people have to pay out hundreds if not thousands to protect their property, I know this may be a radical thought, but how about anyone stealing a CAT goes to jail for a minimum of 10 years, no remission, wouldn't take long for the scum bags to get the message...

I tack welded a piece of expanded metal over my cat on a Ford Escape. Quick and easy, no problems since.

Its a very creative idea. Once of the best I have seen. The likely scenario is probably that in the dark they don't really see or understand that the cat strap is there and they began cutting , and maybe have to make several cuts cause of the hardened pins. by the time the alarm goes off the cat is damages so much it may require replacement. In many cases, maybe a muffler shop can just repair the pipes?

Need a pressured liquid filled cavity that you would have to cut like a dye pack so if they cut it sprays in all directions, or glitter.

I think I'd rather fit a steel shield covering it instead. When the cat fails (eventually happens to every cat) or is otherwise damaged, this approach is going to be more expensive to replace a cat because more material will need to be removed, as well as it being more time consuming.

I just took some old saw saw blades (good brand..not harbor freight stuff) and tack welded on 3 sides of my pile. It stopped them. The harden steel is hard to cut and dulls their blade....and make a bit of noise One could do the same with a few muffler clamps Put the blades on top and bottom of the pile...They will go fine a easier target They did cut a slot in my pipe but did not get the cat. I just welded (any muffler shop can do it) the slot up

If you hear someone under your car and you're home, just hit the remote start button on your key fob if equipped. If they already cut the one side, the house would be deafening. If not, hearing the car start while they are under it will at least scare the 💩 crap out of them

Save your money ppl. This is counter productive. Cost more money to remove when cat goes bad. Just tack weld a length of rebar. That glue shyt and running wires is a mess. 1/2 rebar.

After having 3 catalytic converters stolen on my Toyota Tacoma I had a shop weld a thick chain to the converter itself and then tack welded to the frame. As long as a thief can steal the converter itself anything you do to the pipe is useless(I tried). It never happened again...

Place tubes of harmless chemicals that react violently when mixed. When cut into, a chemical reaction could create a noxious gas or an explosion that would maim the thief. Serves them right.

Two pieces of pipe, slightly larger than the cat pipes. Cut in half, lengthwise. Weld halves back together over cat pipes. Just spins when touched by sawzall, chain cutter or cutoff disc. Very difficult to operate cutoff tool when holding spin pipe with other hand. Your welcome!

Need a device that will kick out the jack after 10 seconds....

Install a mesh cover across the bottom of your car where the cat is, attach it to both sides of your frame.. you can see the cat through the mesh, but the thieves can't get at it.. you can't use sawzall blades, you can't get a pipe cutter in there, yes it cut off wheel could do it but thieves don't use them because they're too noisy.. 20 or $30 solution

The cost to install this strap will be the same as if the thief would steal your converter. So either way the owner is screwed.
