My personal review of the PSVANE EL34 Horizon Tubes: After about 12 hours of listening pleasure. Always difficult to describe, my home language is not english. The tube is well balanced, very spacious, what stands out are the details and the sparkling sound. I love that. absolutely no shrill sound. Basses are very nicely controlled. exactly as Skunkie described it.! With these types of new tubes, PSVANE will leave brands such as Tungsol, Mullard, JJ, Gold Lion far behind. The ridiculously priced NOS EL34 are already out of the question for me. An exaggerated hype has arisen around this kind of tubes.

Great to know these new PSVANE Horizon tubes are improved and sound great. If would be worthwhile to get the upgraded crossover kit for your beloved Klipsch speakers from Danny at GR Research, before re-tuning your amp especially since Klipsch themselves re-tuned their later versions to be closer to Danny's improvements. Plus, it would make some great content for the channel!

Yeah, he seems to be believable on some points, but then start talking about those tube connectors and trying to demo speaker cables using an FM receiver as proof you will hear RF in your speakers.. Come on, if that was true you wouldn't need a radio, just hook some wire up to your speakers and listen! And IMHO Klipsch made a mistake with the RP600M II trying to make them measure flat for the reviewers. I returned the pair I bought.

@@SkunkieDesignsElectronics OK. Everyone's hearing is different, I guess. I would think you would want a speaker to be neutral and measure flat, so that the magic of your tube amp is not colored by the speaker...

You also have to remember testing gear or speakers etc. with a sine wave is just a starting point, music reproduction is more complex than reproducing a single frequency at a time. At some point you have to just listen, and I'm not the only reviewer who prefers the OG model even if in sine wave tests it doesn't look as good.

The JJ tubes you liked are "E34L." They were originally designed by GE to be a high powered version of EL34. 1990s GE sold the tooling and metallic materials to Groove Tubes, who contracted JJ to mfg them for GT. GT mailed the machines and material to JJ who made a few batches of the tube and they were miraculously awesome, no exaggeration. They were so good, the genius amp designer Mitch Margoles designed a new 100W monoblock amp for Manley Labs called the Snappers, specifically designed to use the GE (Groove Tubes/JJ) E34L tube. They wound custom OPT in house for Snapper which was fully balanced circuit. Nothing good lasts forever, and JJ sold the tube under their own brand and the original GE stock material ran out. JJ substituted their materials and the result was grenades. Snapper ran 525VDC rails and the tubes were popcorn. Manley tried to screen the tubes but more than half were bad, so they had to punt, and shipped EH 6CA7s for a few years, until they redesigned the amp to use whatever typical EL34 they are using now. I am excited to try the new JJ E34L again, because if they have improved the reliability and maintained most of the sound of the original then it is a winner. We've all be screwed by poor JJ quality over the years, so I won't hold my breath. I just wanted to share my info about the history of E34L and why it is/was so good. EDIT: I just looked up GrooveTubes, they are owned by Fender now, but they still sell Groove Tubes GT-E34Ls, which is probably still the same tube made by JJ but maybe better screened than JJ or better warranty from US company.

Many of the old/NOS tubes could be run way past specs, which most new production tubes can't handle. There are several tube types that amp manufacturers exploited the older manufacturing "robustness" and now you can't find new production tubes that will live in them, EL84 is another one. I run these within the specs for a "normal" EL34 so I don't have tubes blowing up :) Thanks for sharing this history!

I recently got a pair of Chinese 300b monoblocks. I got the version that came with a full set of bottom of the line PS Vane tubes -- two each 300b, 6H8C and 5U4M. The full set of tubes raised the price by $130. They work but sound terrible. I'm not surprised that a 200ish dollar JJ 300b sounds better than a $50 PS Vane, lol. I am surprised that they can make one that cheap.

I have noticed some sellers on Alibaba claim to be tube manufacturers. I feel certain that one is only a wholesaler / retailer. Is K&D Shenzhen Hanlongjia Technology Co., LTD the PSVANE manufacturer, or a retailer? They currently have a tube for sale described as follows: Brand Name K&D; Model Number PSV KT150; Product Name PSVANE Tube KT120. You should be able to see why I am confused. With a past experience of buying Shuguang KT120s that did not perform, it caused me to question if the tubes really were made by Shuguang and if they really were KT120s. I hope we can see some integrity in the tube industry and be able to have confidence in the quality we are buying. Will PSVane be selling direct through Amazon? Will there also be wholesaler/retailers selling on Amazon, as well? I hope you can get control of, and maintain, your quality and reputation. Thanks

I was thinking of getting a backup quad of power tubes for my R8 and was considering the EL34 instead of KT88 even though I really enjoy the stock KT88 sound. I will consider these new Horizon tubes depending on the price, as checking the PSVANE listing shows their higher models being extremely expensive in my mind. Speaking of burn in, when I switched my Cayin MT-12N EL84EH for the new R8 I was shocked at how flat and dead it sounded compared to the Cayin, or even my solid state amp. But after running it for about three hours with streaming music it really opened up gave me the quality I was wanting. I've never experienced a drastic difference like that with electronics or even breaking in speakers.

I'm sure your personal experience might differ, but personally, I'd steer clear of PSVANE. When I got my R8 I went with the fancy PSVANE tubes. A tube in the first set just died internally (which I now wonder if it wasn't due to an air leak), which they where kind enough to replace after some back and forth. Normally they require you to send your tube back so they can look at it and go yup, it's broken. Well shipment to China costs as much as the tube just about. Then a second tube died. Which then crumbled as tried to removed it, of course they blamed it on me, it's not that hard to insert/remove tubes. I'm guessing one way they are cutting corners is by skimping on the amount of glass used. They refused to replace the second one. The second one also blew out resistors inside the R8. So I decided to perform some upgrades to the caps and resistors I've seen online. I no longer, nor will I EVER run PSVANE, they are GARBAGE on quality control, I repeat GARBAGE on quality control. Google search about a reseller that had numerous issues with quality control. I'm running Mullards as they are my fav sounding. Choose Gold Lion, Electro-Harmonix or even Telefunken, at least they won't crumble when you touch them. I swap out tubes at times to try out different sounds, I've never had a single issue with any other tube.

Not sure which version of their tubes you bought, but yes they have made some poor/low quality tubes in the past. I have also avoided them after my experiences listening to some of their "budget" tubes and understand why you would never buy anything from them again. I do think this latest series have better QC and they plan to sell them through amazon, which would simplify the return process. Again, I respect your feelings on this and your right to voice your concerns.
