It still holds up, it's a lot more fun than the new one, I actually got through it. Prey 2017's 3rd act is so boring and tedious I can never bring myself to finish it.

The only reason you should ever delete the comment section is when there’s dangers of scams, predators, or anything else that could harm the community. I use groovy in a general sense; a softer way of saying "good", "decent", or "cool", all three of which Prey 2017 is supposed to be.

Instead it's supposed to be boring.

Prey 2017 is a solid sci fi in some sense. Devs couldn't just put minortaurs shooting lasers from their eyes. The enemies resemble system shock sentries and may look stupid but they are very challenging and fun to deal with.

A boring person finds everything boring as always As every Arkane game it just looks boring until you play it yourself

And they both look like/draw from the designs in System Shock. Which makes sense, given the developers from Looking Glass studios would go on to found Irrational Games and Arkane.

Well the mimics are a unique enemy itself, phantoms are cool they are 3 different element ones and they make scary sounds, their are also robots, mind controlled "puppets" which are humans being controlled by telepaths, and then there is this scary ass lookin thing called the nightmare that hunts you down and destroys you in a matter of seconds if you don't run and hide 😅

Well Prey 2006 runs on the Doom 3 engine so that's why they look similar. And I'll add to Jonathan's comment that if you liked the gameplay of prey 2017 you should try System Shock 2 and the Deus Ex series.

jason littleton The monsters in Prey 2017 are uninteresting. Hence why shooting them in the face becomes uninteresting. Granted, there are other ways to play. All of which are also uninteresting. That’s why it’s better for a game to focus on doing one thing well rather than ten things poorly.

Well compare the monsters and the shooting implements. Prey 2006 a wide variety of enemies and weapons. Prey 2017 the same black blobs in vaguely different shapes and really only one decent gun.

Me too, it makes me think how much better Bioshock is and I wish I was playing that instead.

Because it's not set in the same story. Plus it doesn't have the A.I villain Shodan. So it's not System Shock.

Prey 2017 is nothing like 2006, it's not a shoot'em'up, it's an immersive simulation, it's really not about shooting in prey 2017, it's about playing with the environment and using it to your advantage. It's so different it's slow and tactical. For example, in prey 2006 things are either black or white, there's one way to traverse, you get to point b, solve the problem, fight the enemies, the beauty of it is ofc the flawless shooting, it was a reflection of your skills in haming, you gotta be quick and precise, it was very fun. But that's not the case at all in 2017, In prey 2017, you go to open a door, you find out it needs a code, now here's the difference, you can search for it in audios, notes, computers et, ih but the computer who probably has the code, needs power, find a way to power the generator so u can use the computer and find the code... or you can just skip all of it by simply morphing into a small object and sneak beneaththe door, it's all about playing with the workd around u in 2017, enemies are so hard for a reason, you have to use the gadgets, u have to use non lethal weapons like Gloo-gun in order to immobilize them so that you're able to get a perfect shot. Immersive sims have to be played like that. Prey 2006 was a hommage to doom, turok and quake, and it actually stand out as a pillar pf that genre, while 2017 was a hommage to deus ex, system shock and dishonored. Literally the only thing similar was the name, and here's where i agree with u on the fact that bethesda is a joke, they forced Arkane to use this name because they thought it will bring sales, and it did, but negatively, see because they gave it this name, people expected something like the original prey, rightfully so, keep in mind that theyve been on their toes for prey 2, but in the end they got something way slower, tactical and heavily based on survival, a totally different genre. I just wanna tell u, ik it's nothing like 2006. It won't fill that gape, but in it's own genre this game is the best imo, try it based on what it is. It really deserves a second chance.

It's actually fun, it's not just a grindathon. The enemies are fun to kill, the guns are fun to shoot, the story actually has an emotional core and the main character has a personality. Loads of weapon and enemy variations and tactics. The environments are also a lot more interesting. It has a good gameplay loop, the new one is just tedious to play.

Ah, opinions...What a great thing they are, don't you think? But anyway, saying that 2017 Prey is better than the 2006 one is like saying that apples are better than oranges. Both games are completely different at their core (Prey 2017 is a System-Shock-like game while Prey 2006 is pretty much Doom 3, but better (if the comments on this video are of any indication)), thus you can't really compare them. But personally, though, I prefer Prey 2017 over the 2006 one, since it relies more on cunning and improvisation rather than running and gunning. But again, opinions and all that.

Actually Prey 2006 had puzzles and other such things. It's NOT an Doom wanna-be, it's more like Half-Life and Hexen combined, at least in MY opinion. I still have it on PC and play it occasionally.

Pistol is silenced so supposed to sound like a peashooter, there are even comments in the game from NPCs making fun of it for being mostly ineffective against the Tyhpon. The Shotgun in game sounds pretty good in my opinion and does a damn good amount of damage against most biological enemies. The Q-beam sounds amazing and will tear through most enemies in a few seconds although the ammo can be hard to come by early on.

It felt like a mix of Bioshock (inspired by System Shock), Dishonored, Dead Space and the terrible controls and hitbox recognition of Bethesda's games

Prey 2006 was a shitty DOOM Rip-off. Prey 2017 isn't even the same game, and that's damn good, because there's pretty much nothing original Prey has to offer that DOOM hasn't done better.

Sonic Adventure sold 2 million copies, guess that must be a great game, even better than Prey 2006, right? The sales don't mean anything, it was an awful game. Literally nothing about it was even SLIGHTLY original. Just a bad mash-up of DOOM and Turok. But the new Prey is unoriginal. Yup, there have been TONS of games where you can freely explore an entire space station, picking up literal trash to recycle into materials and make literally whatever you want with. TONS of games where you can just turn into a coffee cup or whatever the hell else you want. TONS of games where choosing to become more alien will cause the alien-targeting turrets to turn on you. TONS of games where the enemies literally become ordinary objects hiding in plain sight. The only thing that's not interesting about new Prey is the enemies, but I still prefer generic black blobs over "We are clearly trying to hard to be DOOM, just take a human and make it look really gross"
