"Your mother will never see you again if you do not marry Mr. Collins and I will never see you again if you do." - best thing a father could ever tell his daughter. No pressure and no demands.

No matter how many times I see the film, I can never stop myself from laughing at that great line. It's kind of interesting that Jane Austen wrote these brilliant romance novels. But she never got married.

Because he's selfish. He won't be alive to see his wife and daughters suffer because of his short sightedness (not saving for their financial security). He'd rather his children be destitute than him suffer a bore for a son in law

What a wonderful line for a father to say! In that day and age, not pressuring his daughter into unhappy matrimony!

I first saw this movie in high school and it's been one of my favorites ever since. I related to Elizabeth because of what little importance money and position have compared to people's feelings - an especially timely subject here in CA where everyone's anger issues are only somewhat abated by their addiction to technology (cell phones, social media, etc.)

One man's trash is another man's treasury. I happen to like this film very much for it captures the spirit of the characters in the book, regardless of the plot and costumes.

Love it but the time of the costume is bad. Its regency era not victorian era but love it.

wow - massive problem with the costumes...given that JA was dead before 1820 it is rather odd that the actors are dressed in costumes from 1835 - 1850.......hard to say why when those of the JA era would have been far cheaper & easier to recreate......
@tashi9317
@tashi9317 4 жыл бұрын
they changed the time when it was set because the costume designer preferred the 1830s silhouette and was concerned about the simplicity of the 1810s-20s being too reminiscent of clothes ration during the war. He purposefully made the costumes very sumptuous (and probably expensive) because he wanted the audience to have a real escape to another time. I don’t agree with the change really but for the 1830s the costumes are gorgeous so I guess he did what he was aiming to do.

OMG just watched this adaptation of a classic and I want to be sick , the foolish talk and wardrobe were all wrong and to see a masterful man such as Oliver act like he does in this film makes me want to puke , to watch a correct and excellent adaption one must watch Colin Firth has Mr Darcy not once does he act like a blithering idiot such has Mr Collins , has for Elizabeth she is cast perfect in this adaption and wardrobe is correct why do Americans tend to over do movies bigger and lavish does not make the movie and viewing better
