One of my favorite parts of the entire film is when she's staring at the statue like yes girl you love him you know it, you're even getting these feelings from simply looking at a statue of him

I can’t help but agree with Lizzie’s aunt in the movie, Mrs Gardiner about Darcy’s mouth. There’s something pleasant about his mouth when he speaks, she said. That’s very true. Matthew’s mouth and his gorgeous looks. He’s kind of classy. I don’t know why but he reminds me of Roger Federer sometimes ... 😀

@Sarah Langlois-Luna I agree... I’m mystified by it. When I think of anything to do with Jane Austen, my mind jumps to this movie and always to this sculpture! If I wasn’t so afraid of flying, I’d go to England to see the sculpture in person, if that’s possible.
@merk95695 жыл бұрын
@DONNA B. If you pause the video at 0.53 it gives a good view of the veil over the face of the sculpture. I think I can guess how the illusion is created. I couldn’t fathom it before. If you imagine running your fingers slowly from the left side of the face to the right, you would be tracing highs and lows. The shadow of the eye is created by a deep indentation while the veil is a high point going from the brow to the cheek. Your fingers would travel from the first fold on the outside of the eye, into the first indentation (which is the dark shadow), then out over the thick fold and back down into the second indentation, (if that makes sense) and then back out for the fold over the bridge of the nose. I wish I could think of an analogy but I can’t. Finally, I think I understand it! ( : The sculpturer was a genius.

I've marvelled at that veiled statue every time I've watched the film. Monti managed to create a recognisable face behind the illusion of a solid marble veil. What a talented sculptor. I understand that veiled statues were a trend amongst sculptors at the time to showcase their skills, and this is one of many fine examples.

What makes me sad that even doing such a brilliant acting in Pride and Prejudice he didn't get much movies offer or movie as in lead role. If I were the producer or director I would cast him in my each & every movie. 😞😞
@finarakhima13272 жыл бұрын
He did many great roles in movies or TV series honey. Check 'em out. Those weren't just mainstream Hollywood movies, and he liked to play in England, near his family. He's also shy, like Mr. Darcy himself 😂 He's a loving family man. Matthew seemed unable to be faraway from his family. That's why he's underrated in Hollywood, except his Pride and Prejudice. But he's really an A-list actor in England. Recently, he just won an award for his brilliant performance in 'Succession'. It's a great acting of him, and very popular show in America. Have you watched it? 😊

Wonderful film. I switch between the beautiful filming, stunning interiors, breath-taking landscapes and wonderful music in this one and the BBC's magnificent 1995 version with its historical authenticity, its accurate rendition of the book and its unsurpassed acting. They both bring real quality in their own ways to the story.

I was watching a Chatsworth documentary and I wasn't entirely sure then but only now I am fully certain that it was Pemberley in the Pride and Prejudice film. What if Jane Austen really did model Pemberley in Chatsworth's? What if the 19th Century Duke/Lord of Chatsworth had been Jane Austen's inspiration in creating Mr Darcy? Of course it's just me fancy but I shall look up the Lord around that time now 😅 Edit: So. No extensive research done however, the names Georgiana, Elizabeth, William, Charlotte etc may be very common names back in those days but they certainly are part of the immediate family of the 5th and 6th Dukes of Devonshire 😬

Keira Knightley who is Elizabeth Bennet meets and gets married to Mr. Darcy in 2005. Then Keira Knightley is Georgiana the Duchess of Devonshire in 2008. 🤯 😂 Too bad the timelines they took place are the opposite in real life.

What annoyed me a bit about the film is the use of these amazingly grand estate houses. I researched this and most of the houses shown were built and owned by high aristocracy: Dukes and Earls. The characters in the book are landed gentry, they are clearly not high ranking titled aristocrats. While Lyme Park for example was built by a landed gentry family, it always seemed a bit unbelievable to have these well-born commoners in essentially the best homes the UK had to offer.
