DESIGNING WITH VISION : PRIEST RIVER, IDAHO
An interview with a rooted Priest River stakeholder and our (students) take on the town's history, identity, and pressing needs. This is part of a junior level landscape architecture studio at the University of Idaho, focusing on community based design, exploring local growth within a national and global context, learning and grass roots engagement.

Excellent framing of a complex problem, not only for Priest River, but for resource based rural communities across the world. New thinking that respects the place and people is key to finding possibilities. Awesome integration of interview quotes, historic images, and current setting; very pointed questions too. Absolutely great how you took what the community said and used it as a spring board for action; after seeing this one can't but act... THANK YOU...

@screamingxhearts1 Thank you for your comment. This video is a culmination of an interview with Steve Gill, who has many family ties to Priest River. Please don't take offense, as we were not trying to make Priest River look bad, but rather frame some of the issues that rural America, rural Idaho and in particular, Priest River is facing. This video was preliminary work to creating urban planning alternatives for a more sustainable future for Priest River.

Do you happen to know how things have changed in the 11 years since you posted this video. I was in Priest River recently for a job interview. I hadn’t watched this video before going, so I had no idea of the local economy, but I had looked for a house on Zillow. There were very few available, and the prices seemed very high for a depressed area!
