He used slice like 80% of the time, makes Dimitrov look like an amateur when it comes to hitting more slice backhand than topspin backhand. Plus we all know Federer's forehand is just better overall than Gonzo's not in terms of power but in terms of consistency, angle, and variety. Plus Federer's serve was too good for Gonzo to handle, who didn't really have a good return of serve. Federer's serve from the get-go just set up the point to be bound to be won by himself, no chance for Gonzo. Meanwhile, Federer's slice also neutralized Gonzo's forehand to some degree.

Yeah, he was just insane. Prime Federer (from mid 2003 to all 2007) is by far the most shocking thing ever seen on a tennis court. This flow was interrupted by mononucleosis by the January 2008, with subsequent loss of confidence which took at least 6/7 months to heal. At the beginning of 2009 he was back almost at his previous level... well, "almost".
