In his prime, Simply unbeatable. Only Tyson managed to destroy Tyson.

@@dogsbollocksgenius9480 exactly. After 3 years and half of destroying anything that moved in the ring, winning everything (3 belts plus lineal)...in the 90s with Douglas fight..Tyson simply let it go. He was defeated by too much money and fame and a lot of bad decisions. He fired Rooney (from Cus D'Amato era) and Hired Don King. He kept partying hard every night..like the night before the match with Douglas when he and Bobby Brown partied with 9 Japanese girls (recall reading it in a Bobby Browns interview). Ultimately Tyson destroyed Iron Mike.

Its hard to believe he was that good in his early 20’S, that’s something many people don’t realize what kind of boxer he was.
@perpetualmotion3577 ай бұрын
Mike Tyson is the most prolific athlete walking the planet. He was/is a phenom. He carries an aura around him where you can feel that theres something special and different about this man. Even though he destroyed the 80's and became undisputed champion and went around unifying all the titles like Link gathering pieces of the Triforce, starting it at 20, there was bound to be some losses in this mans career and life. Like Cus said, he believed fighting to be 75 percent mental. If Mikes head wasnt in the game living a life full of distractions, his skills were bound to deteriorate. It doesn't mattter if he was only still in his 20's. There's more to a fighters prime than his age and physical condition. You have to psychologically put your mind in fight mode, filled with determination and no distractions, thats when a fighter is in his prime. The physical conditioning to be in optimal shape will follow the fighters desire to be the absolute best. I know he lost to Evander and Lennox later on, but losses don't create your identity. Winning does, especially if you win in devastating fashion where people will remember you. You could have 3 lines outside with each one there to shake the hand of Holyfield, Lewis and Tyson. I guarantee you the line of people waiting to meet Mike Tyson would be wrapped around the block. There is a reason for this. I bet the most watched boxer on youtube is Mike Tyson by a large margin.
@leonardof853Күн бұрын
People will remember Tyson and Ali..then? no more. I liked your comment. Besides the fact Tyson after 3 years of prison and inactivity, was not the same anymore..and losing to Holyfieled proves it..but you are right..we should consider lighters by their prime. Tysons prime lasted 3/4 years..in the beginning of career... But man..he was an alien from another planet..such an aura.. superspeed (X3 compared to others).. super precision in punching..amazing footwork and peekaboo style. Still as of today i never saw something like this in boxing. Still as of today I keep watching old Tyson's videos as they are the only ones that excite me.

I wish that he had just listened to Kevin Rooney and stayed with him. It is amazing that he has forgiven everyone who tried to hurt him but refuses to forgive the one person who did everything to protect him.
@SJ-ty5rw5 ай бұрын
I also thought it was odd that he never had anything to do with Rooney again . I remember hearing late in his career Mike was even open to working with Teddy Atlas again . Which is crazy as Teddy would never have trained him again . Rooney was always open to training him as early as he came out of prison . Sad part is Rooney has dementia now and probably wouldnt be able to connect with Mike even if Mike did try .

Without a doubt Mike Tyson should have went undefeated.. To me he was the most Dominant Powerful Intimidating Boxer of all time.. Only if he would of stayed away from trouble..
@joejoyce9979 Жыл бұрын
Depends who he fought, His reign in the 80's dominant but look who he was fighting, His best wins include guys like trevor berbick, Tony Tucker and James Smith, Not bums but nowhere near all time greats. Would he of been undefeated if facing prime holyfeild, prime lewis, prime bowe, prime tua, prime Morrison, prime Mercer.. Definitley not. He would beat some of those guys - but not all of them.

@@anthonyscarpa6107 Bro you don't even know what you're talking about, Cus D'mato died a few months into tysons career when mike was barely 18 years old, mike didn't reach his prime til he was 20-21, 2-3 years after cus died, and even when cus was alive tyson still lost (in the amateurs) Yes he was a great ko artist, but there are several guys who he could not come close to koing or even dropping.

Tyson is definitely one of the most gifted boxers. From 85-89 he was a killing machine. I would out that tyson up against anybody but sonny liston was an absolute monster with heavy hands the size of sledgehammers. He would have given tyson all he could handle and then some. A fught tyson could still win cause he was as fast as a lightweight, with the power of liston. Jack Dempsey is another one. That fight would have been an all-time great fight. Jack Dempsey was absolutely fearless and strong as an ox. Tyson is my all time favorite boxer but legends of the past would have given him a ride for his money. Those are facts. But tyson would give them a ride for their money too.
