A huge welcome to Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis of Greece on what believe is his first official visit to Canada! 🇨🇦 🇬🇷
This is Montreal's first head of state visitor of 2024 and 4th already for Canada.
Prime Minister Mitsotakis and Prime Minister Trudeau met in Montreal over the weekend to discuss Canada-Greece relationship as well as to celebrate Greek Independence Day (even if it was a day early) Both leaders discussed a wide range of topics and world problems. They also announced that Greece will be purchasing 7 new DHC-515 firefighting aircraft!
As of 2021, there are 271,410 Greek-Canadians who live mainly in the Greater Toronto area and Greater Montreal area. This is likely why these cities were preferred for the visit over Ottawa.
After a lengthly stay in Montreal, both prime ministers departed for Toronto for the 2nd half of this official visit.
The Greek Air Force (Hellenic Air Force) operates a fleet of 3 aircraft used for VIP travel; a G550, an E135 Legacy and this Falcon 7X. This Falcon 7X was built in 2017 and delivered to the Greek Air Force as a gift from France in 2020.
The reason for the gift was due to France not delivering Mirage 2000 fighter jets back in 2000 after signing a contract. France also provided maintenance and crew for free for one year.
