I love primes because it gives a creative limitation that sometimes helps me to be more decisive. Plus, sometimes it’s nice to be able to eliminate a busy background by stopping down to 1.4 or something. The Tamron 35-150 does have my interest piqued though

I use the 14-24 2.8z, 24-70 2.8z and the old 58 1.4G. I would love to get the 50 1.2 but not sure if I would use it enough. Nice video!

I love your video and it's very informative. I love primes and zooms for my Nikon DSLR depending on the situation. I have a 35mm f1.8 & 50mm f1.8. A lot of my friends have a 24-70mm f2.8 which is extremely versatile until I found out how expensive it is. I did some research and soul searching and found an 18-70mm f3.5-4.5G zoom for my Nikon and it's a damn good lens and it's within the 24-70mm range.

I really love primes but am finding them limiting and need to invest in a zoom (when I have the funds). In fact I am looking to rent one next week as I will be photographing a concert (in a small venue). But my usual go to is my 50mm f1.4 for portraits and some street and I have a 24mm 1.4 which is lovely for nightscape and the stars etc. Any tips of what zoom to rent for the concert would be much appreciated!

Totally feel that!! For concerts I’ve used my 24-70mm f/2.8 lens and that’s been great but I have a 70-200mm f/2.8 on the way and I think that’s going to be better for larger shows/festivals because I’ll be able to shoot from super far away🤝 Good luck with everything :)

The Canon 28-70mm f/2 is so good that it's on my camera most of the time. It's basically a bunch of primes in one. Amazing versatility. 24-105mm f/2.8 is the best street photography lens for me.

85mm is the way to go for portraits with full frame cameras.

@@cameraprepper7938 Traditionally yes, but if you're in tight spaces or you want to show more of the location 50mm is more versatile

@@Chow0012 You don´t wanna be in tight spaces for portraits, go another place ! IMO a 50mm focal length for full frame is the most useless. I can be good for APSC sensor size.

I do understand your point. I have a 24-105 f4 which is very versatile that I would use when needed. But many times I’m in a low light situation and I have to keep switching my primes based on what I want to photograph which could be tiring at times.

Following a bunch of KZfaqrs who hyped up primes to me.. my first couple lenses were all primes.. i eventually got a 70-200 and fell in love with it.. now i got a 24-70 which is on my camera 90% of the time and a 14-30 which I’ve come to really love as well

The advancement in zoom lenses has been impressive. I rented the RF 28-70 F2 for a number of events and it was literally the only lens I needed. Yeah it’s a monster but if you can leave other lenses at home then it’s worth it.
