In this demo of PrimeTurning™ you will see the complete turning operation of a pinion done in 40 seconds. From roughing to finishing using CoroTurn® Prime B-type and CoroTurn® Prime A-type. The all new turning method allows turning in all directions enabling higher speed, feed and tool life resulting in an immense productivity increase.

Gosh, this is a nicely-produced video. Unobtrusive music, and you still let us hear the machine doing its work.

when switching from B-type to A-type,, is there a separate tool holder/arm, or does it change out the tooling automatically. Also, I've read about wiper-like finish. Does this mean the PrimeTurn has a wiper insert as part of the CoroTurn Prime?

Was it intentional to designate the inserts A and B to the rough silhouettes of the inserts? To me the A type insert has a silhouette that kind of looks like the letter A and the B type also kind of looks like the letter B

what grade would you recommend in 271 nickel I have been fighting this along time at a customers Mitsubishi 900 cant remember the first couple letters I think MP ? did well it out performed 1115 strait cut part just being faced and turned down .100 using a ccgx coated I want to stay with sandvik part is only 2" diam were parting facing od turning one thing QD parting worked well trust me coating is needed...books say hss steel not a change

I have the tool and inserts for my Okuma LU3000 lathe at work but nobody to program it . This would save at least 45 seconds on each part I run.

What about the burr hanging off the part towards the end of the video (near the live centre). Hardly "complete" machining as there is still the gear and spline to be cut/formed (respectively) aswell as screwcutting the thread. Not to mention heat treatment and final grinding/hard part turning. EDIT: video description now updated 2/5/17. However, it looks effective once its setup and running your 500+ parts through. A video suggestion would be to have a side by side comparison of Prime turning vs conventional turning and time the results with a stop watch.

Hi, You are completely correct. This film features just the complete turning operation of a pinion. Of course it will require few more operations for pinion to be completely ready. Best regards, Håkan Ericksson Product manager general turning

Hi is primeturning only for high power machines or can you also use it on smaller low power lathes?
@sandvikcoromant
@sandvikcoromant 6 жыл бұрын
Hello, thank you for reaching out. There is no need to have high power machines to benefit from PrimeTurning™ technology, same can be done using low power machines as well. You can perform PrimeTurning (all-directional turning), derive huge productivity also from increased tool life and can use much higher cutting speed (vc) compared to conventional turning. Higher cutting speed/rpm have a minor impact on the net power requirement (compared to high feed or depth of cut) hence CoroTurn Prime tools also works great on low power machines. The cutting forces are calculated according to formula Ap x fn x kc. Be aware of the material specific "kc" value as it influences the cutting force and net power significantly. For example; turning high strength steel with CoroTurn Prime B : 3 x 1.0 x 2000 = 6 kN and with CoroTurn Prime A: 1.5 x 0.5 x 2000 = 1,5 kN. Download our Turning Calculator App to calculate net power and visit Sandvik Coromant website to know more about PrimeTurning: www.sandvik.coromant.com/coroturnprime Best regards Staffan Lundström Product Manager

Before the cutter touched the part I thought it was aluminum and you were cheating. Once it started peeling I knew you had a monster not just of the insert but the machine too.

Can you have a video with less camera changes. Maybe from start to finish. This would make a great GIF to post on Reddit.

Temo Lopez The camera cuts have me worried too. Towards the end of the turning a nasty birdsnest forms on the tool and JUST before it wraps around the workpiece the camera cuts to a new view and the swarf magically disappears. If these inserts arn't chip breaking at these speeds and feeds I think Sandvik will need to further develop the chip former geometry as from this video it shows no scope or allowance to slow the feed down should you have a more difficult material to machine. From this video the chip breaking does not look that positive despite the high feed rates. Given that Prime turning is aimed at high volume production, the chipbreaking and process security NEED to be 100% or it simply is not worth it...

Temo Lopez If you pause at 0:50 it without a doubt has a swarf wraparound and then the video cuts to another camera which was probably another part being run through later. The CNC used in this video could be at RPM limits on these smaller diameters and thus the machining parameters (lack of Vc) could negativly effect chip forming but at the end of the day Sandvik are not being truthful in this video...
@JoeKlaas
@JoeKlaas 7 жыл бұрын
Theyre being truthful. Watch from 0:48 in .25x speed. You can see the exact chip that is "bird nesting without a doubt" fling to the back of the machine. Same color, same shape, same everything. The video is seamless.
