Todd was the original guitarist. When I first met the band in 1984 putting up flyers on Broadway in SF they had a drum machine as their drummer, it was Todd and Les and I cant remember their name for the drum machine! I took their demo, which I wish I still had to the radio station I worked at and so I say I discovered them but if you ask Les he said We discovered Julie!. They played at my 21st Birthday party at a Holiday Inn Wisconsin Room and said it was the hardest gig to load in equipment!

My love for Primus for nearly two decades has just been upgraded! Did not know about the Sausage demo and honestly didn't know they preceded the 90s! Most of my highschool friends weren't onboard with me in highschool (early 90s), but then again I had to convince them that Nirvana was awesome. I truly love how original the band has stayed over all these years. The sound, the way it effects us as listeners, is genuine and fun! Love it!

Riddles Are Abound Tonight is to this day one of my favorite albums. These 3 had lightning. Never taking away from Ler & Tim. I get a kick out of watching Jayski trying to play Grapevine live during the Naugahyde tour. His face screamed “What was Tim thinking!!??”
@SeanBauzay
@SeanBauzay 4 жыл бұрын
Sonic Therapy yeah dude The Sausage album is so underrated. That lineup is funkier because of the drums. But Tim makes Primus sound like an Army. I can’t say Tim would be able to pull off the grooves from the Sausage album either though. I just think Tim is a better fit for Primus. And yeah seeing Jay play grapevine is funny because it’s not as natural for him to pull off as Tim.

This demo is amazing - Jay Lane and Todd Huth's playing are sensational and unique, as well as Les' singing being a little rougher, but somehow more fun, and the raw-ness of the whole recording is really exciting, making you feel like you're listening to them playing in your garage (which they literally were) - but I think I actually prefer the Frizzle Fry recordings. It just feels like they crystallized their sound a little more. Some of the songs - or parts of the songs - have been sped up or slowed down a little to fit the right jam (example: the slower parts of Groundhogs Day have clearly been slowed down from this recording), Les' singing feels more intentional, putting vocal emphasis or humor where it sounds best, and Larry digs in to the established solos with his own flare and extreme distortion - example: one of my favorite riffs of his (Larry's) is in the slowed-down jam section of Harold of the Rocks right after he shreds through the fretboard, he screams out these two long notes, descending and then ascending into the next bit of the jam, and that's just perfection to me. Not taking anything away from this demo, I just think the Frizzle Fry version shows them having really come into their style on a more professional level, if that makes sense.

This demo was released the year I was born. I've been a Huge fan of Primus (as you can tell by some of my videos) since I was 14. But I can't fathom what it had to have been like to have been a Primus fan from the beginning and anticipate/experience the subsequent album releases. To wait for Frizzle Fry to drop after hearing Suck on This, then put that in the tape/CD player... Wow! Then Seas of Cheese, then Miscellaneous, then Pork Soda, etc. Sometimes I wish I was born 10 years Earlier.

I can't believe this is their first recording. It must have blown minds when it dropped. I mean, other bands were hitting some of the aspects Primus did, but these guys came out and tore the house down with full-fledged unique sound that absolutely destroyed, in terms of rocking out. It'd be like if Pink Floyd's early years had never happened, and suddenly they dropped Dark Side of the Moon or The Wall.

This is great. Does anyone know if I can download high quality digital (flac or similar) from anywhere? Don't mind paying, but would prefer the cash to go to the band. Can't find it on the Primus website, and have a very short attention sp.
