Madness is not anywhere near this. I always hated them for no particular reason. Now that I have discovered jamaican Ska in the past 10 yrs or so I know why. Bad appropriation of something truly great.

Confession time: I've loved the Madness version of this tune since it came out. Why I've only discovered Prince Buster and his original version these 40 years later I cannot explain. This is freaking brilliant, though! My face wore this astonished grin the entire time. Thanks @richmayn for that info. Buster was badass :-D This video made my day!

@@FFM0594 "Send me some of what you're smoking." I'm afraid that I can't, sadly I've run out of the stuff. It was in a small packet, given to me by a giant purple cat with 6 legs and batwings, who stepped out of a dimension portal, said something to someone behind him/her, that I couldn't see, only the end of their huge, pert, satin clad bust, with a wisp of ginger hair hanging down. The tail end of the conversation is all that I heard,: "Since I'm not a perspiring rabbit, it wouldn't really bother me very much." Then it disappeared by flying up the chimney with a whoop, which is weird, because the chimney flue was in no way big enough to accommodate the airborn feline, let alone its unfeasible wings. You wouldn't want the side effects, though, I had a bad case of the Flying Buttmonkeys for a couple of days, you know, like the ones in "The Wizard of Oz", only more anally located? They're seriously much less fun than they sound.

Learning the sax at 71, Madness brought me here as well although I remember Prince Buster and I think the all stars from when I was a young teenager. There was Bluebeat then Ska then Rock Steady then Reggae. What a fantastic blend of Wilson K and B (which was before my time) and The Prince! AMAZING

@Billwithoutlala
@Billwithoutlala 2 жыл бұрын
@@SaltBushCity I got an Alto sax for students about £600 you get what you pay for.. To make practice easier i then got a Yamaha electronic sax again about £600 but it was worth it as although it sounds awful through its in built speakers it sounds great played through a computer and the fingering is exactly the same as a normal sax. Tips? The notes are really easy to remember BAG FED and the associated sharps and B flat, it will introduce you to a little music theory but you will find it interesting unless you already have some knowledge. After learning some easy tunes I wrote down each major scale and just practiced G scale D scale A scale E scale B scale F scale, if you practice the finger positions get embedded in your brain, good luck!

Doesn't get much better than this. Vaudeville at it's best! A rare fact of trivia is that the Parker-Hintz twins started out their career in Coleanos Circus. They went on the London Palladium for a few weeks, but took London by storm and stayed permanently. When they played Berlin in 1936, Joseph Goebbels condemned their act as indecent!!! They actually improvised much of their act, as can be plainly seen at 1:07 and 2:24. This was not in the script!!! I know, hard to believe, eh?

Isn't ironic that Madness (who with their very short hair cuts, braces, Doctor Martens boots and backed-up jeans - as well as being an all-white band) were briefly (and through no fault of their own) identified with the National Front in the late 70s and very early 80s, derived some of their early work from the Jamaican blue beat and Ska. 🎼 Prince Buster's influence should be acknowledged far more as musical antecedence in this context. 🎼👌🏾
