@Anthony Sawyer they're still pretty good. The elite units have been left untouched and I believe they still do the same training as back in the day. The full curriculum for training is on the Wikipedia for "1 Parachute Battalion" if you're interested. The battle of Bangui in 2013 showed they can still fight.

Superb great to see the reg Getting new colours. Being an ex para myself it's a great honour for the regiment. Good to see 1 para there and of course gleaming 2 and gungy 3 haha. 4 para had new colours presented a few years back I recall. Also you hats out there, the parachute regiment is a massive capability which this country needs.

Colours historically helped commanders see which troops were where on the battlefield. New Colours here due to new battle honours and to look smarter as they gradually wear out in ceremonial use.

Pull the other one! Yea, in the old days when we came back from the Canal Zone and each company had their own “Charwala” and we had bodies to spare to make things from scratch. These days they were lucky to find a second hand smock to give to the HRH. Charles’s first jump over water was nearly his last, he always was one for sticking his feet in the wrong places. Mind you we preferred him to Margret! Cheers mate. Harera

The guy was making a humorous remark to Paras who will know exactly how that can happen and probably has. It was a way of linking his experiences to theirs. Charles is full of self deprecating humour. Its why people like him. Apart from which he has been there and done it, earned the beret, got the wings as a pilot and served as a Skipper in the Navy. He has nothing to apologise for.

Hi John, your only problem was in being on attachment to 2 Para when you could have followed in the footsteps of the officers and senior sergeants from the USA Army that served in 3 Para. I served under two American Officers Commanding my C Company 3 Para in the sixties. The first officer was from the Screaming Eagles and the second from the Rangers. Three things they could not get use to, smaller parachutes, bigger gear to carry in the field and the use of boots instead of vehicles to move from a to b! Cheers mate. Harera
