Prince William's own godfather Constantine II, the former king of Greece, counsels the royal godparents to "speak their mind" and to make sure that the child follows the "traditions of his family".
Constantine II, the former king of Greece, said a proper godparent should be there to give sensible advice to both parents and children.
He said he was "extremely flattered" when Prince Charles asked him to be his son's godfather, adding it had been a "great experience".
"You have to be just, as I said, available to help the parents if they need it, if they ask for it, and the same applies for the child when he grows up," he said.
He said it was important to "speak your mind" and to make sure that the child follows the "traditions of his family."
Prince George, will be christened today at Saint James' Palace in London.
The christening will be conducted by the country's most senior Anglican clergyman, the Archbishop of Canterbury.
George's parents William and Catherine, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, are determined that it should be a small family affair.
The guest list is so small that some of the most senior members of the royal family have not been invited.
Back in 1982, when Prince William was christened, almost all of the guests and godparents were royals, or titled lords and ladies.
But this time, according to reports, the couple have thrown away the rule book.
The Queen and her husband Prince Philip will be there, together with William's father and stepmother, Charles and Camilla, and his brother Prince Harry.
So will Kate's immediate family, including her parents Carole and Michael Middleton, and her sister Pippa.
