Yes, this was Prince's 10th encore that night. At his concerts, he would give you more than what you paid for. He was famous for always saying "you all paid to see me, i can't give you just an hour. I got hits for days. I can go all night!" and his encore's would end up being an hour or 2. Him loving music is an understatement, Prince was addicted to it, he was music in the flesh. His catalog speaks on that very point, because he was the Multi-Genre God. I have Spotify playlists, some of them are "Metal" "Classical" "R&B" "POP" "JAZZ" "Hip Hop" "Punk rock" "blues" etc & the one thing that makes Prince stand out from EVERY other artist, is that, i have Prince song's for every genre on my playlist. Who else can say that ?

The late Johnny Blackwell who died a few months after Prince died. Blackwell played drums for the NPG 2000-2007, and then in 2011-2016. Prince rehearsed his band 12 hours a day and they had to know 100 songs for that tour because he would change the lineup right up to he hit the stage. Not only that they had to know the songs well enough that his cues to either stop, loop, skip etc were done seemlessly.

One of my favorite artist of all time. The man had such a flare and style from his fashion to his musicianship. Growing up, there were always those debates. Rolling Stones vs The Who, Led Zep vs Rush and Micheal Jackson vs Prince. Even with how massive MJ was, I was always partial to Prince. I've always leaned towards the artist that had more of an edge to their music and performances. I can't think of anyone past or present that could command the attention as Price did on stage. The man for me was the ultimate showman.

However, that being said, I don't think he could match Prince note-for-note on his lead guitar work during "My Guitar Gently Weeps" for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. I would put Prince up there with Jimmy Page, Steve Vai, Stevie Ray Vaughan. Just my opinion, everyone has their favorite.

If you really want Prince to let loose and where it’s not rehearsed, you want to check out his aftershows where he and his band would jam in clubs after the main show. @@TheThamesmen there is so much out there. Even the rehearsals were insane. Check out a rehearsal of his track Feel U Up from the Lovesexy Tour 1988. It’s only audio though but still worth it. Also the bluesy, The Ride. Try the performance at Bagleys, London and the version performed live at The Aladdin, Las Vegas, 2002. Whilst I catch my breath, check out his jazz instrumentals performed under the ‘Madhouse’ moniker - the first track entitled ‘8’ is insane.

Great review of a kick-ass performance, Prince is the Goat for sure. I just wanted to add my 2 cents to the twin comment, Prince was a Gemini and his mother was a twin, he was even engaged to a twin in the mid-80's. Gemini expresses duality and is represented as twins. Twins\duality were used as a motif throughout his career in various ways, just like purple and the number 7.

Nice reaction. I wish the estate would release stuff like this. Usually a prince rehearsal was 12 to 15 hrs, various times, sometimes working on one part for 30min. So the band would learn the show, next day he would change the show and start over sometimes u didn't know where he was going, he would say, "play in A" and u just went w it til he started singing. Other times during rehearsal he might basic instructions " chorus twice, sax solo, chorus, organ solo" always the showman. U could 5different genres in one night at a prince show. Not sure if you d seen these, but you'd appreciate prince doing "stratus", "the ride" live from 1998 crystal ball album had nice bluesy guitar, "feline" was a 33min long rehearsal, but has nice guitar first 10 min in the song. Wendy is strumming a long, he s experimenting w some rhythm, he says "play that" and she goes right into it which was cool. "Head" 1981 Houston show, 4th song in has some nice guitar distortion he does. It is a "clutch my pearls" performance. Video s not that great because it's off of vhs sp recording but sound is decent. Cool reaction from u guys

Can’t believe as a fan of rock music from his time that I actually never followed Prince. And I’m from Minnesota to boot. I am a huge fan of Queen, Led Zep, Fleetwood Mac and a number of other groups but listened to one Prince song years ago, didn’t like it and gave up. Big mistake. Now if had heard this, I probably would have all his albums by now.

We like the same groups!! Love that list and P is just a hell of a musician. Saw him live several times and he is just different. An experience like few others.

Funny for me I was never a fan of Prince. I appreciate the fact he was a great musician but there was just something about him that I couldn’t get by. This video was very good musically but the style of music was not my cup of tea.

That's probably why you didn't know how great he was because you were not into his music. It's interesting because he played EVERY genre of music. This man was a master on keys, drums, bass and guitar. Very few are on his level with each instrument
