For me being in 9th grade currently, I hate going to school..I ask my elders "what is school for?". The same question, they reply School is the place which decide your life and control your life. I see Teachers constantly teaching us about our pasts. The wars, the scientists, the random things we will forget when we will grow as adults. I never get motivation to study and just keep on blabbering and memorizing the same things which I will eventually forget. The teachers in school don't give the needed motivation. They compare us, they comment on us based on our grades. School honestly gives me more anxiety, stress and depression than knowledge. School feels likes a prison to me not a place of freedom which I can go and learn. The words said in this video is so relatable to me. Loved it👍🏻👍🏻

That's too bad. How about this: take the easiest classes at your school. (i.e. no AP's or IB's or advanced or honors etc) This way, you'll have practically all the free-time in the world. At the same time, through intrinsic motivation, learn something specific that you're passionate about deeply. This might mean reading a ton of books on a topic. Don't wait for college or for high school to end to start on something you're passionate about. Join clubs at school. If the club of your interest doesn't exist, start one. School will feel less like prison if you have something at school to look forward to. And you'll feel less restricted when you realize how much you can learn without school.

This… I… I cried. I cried because I had so much going on when I was in school. I had things happen to my siblings in elementary school, I was bullied horribly in middle school to the point of being depressed and almost harming myself… thankfully I got outta there and switched schools. And for high school? I switched FIVE different high schools because of the mask during the pandemic and not being able to wear it and afford the private school I went to because I wanted to truly LEARN. I love learning… but I couldn’t do that when they placed pressure on me, when they didn’t allow me to think creatively. My first high school understood this, my other schools didn’t. And my last high school? The one where I didn’t have to teach myself for half the semester and then fight to learn the other half… Despite being an online home school, they really taught me lessons I will cherish forever. Thank you West River Academy.

As a person who goes to highschool in Australia I can say that they do and will teach us a lot of stuff about leaving school and getting a job. In fact when you start year 10 (about 15-16) you are able to pick your own classes for what degree you want in college such as language arts, Business and leadership, Advanced Phycology, Veterinary practice, etc. But the thing is you are able to drop these classes at any time and choose others if you realise that maybe being a physician isn’t for you. They also start implementing classes on taxes, bank accounts, credits/debits, and many other things you would need to do as an adult. Obviously Maths, English and Homeroom are compulsory but these other classes allow you to do something else for when you actually leave school and go to college. Another class my school does is languages, This class is highly recommended but not enforced. This class allows you to learn any language you want with either a private teacher or your own class. This class is literally free and after about two years they may let you travel to the place your language is from. Unfortunately, these easy to work in classes are not in every highschool in Australia and sometimes you may miss out on these bonuses, but personally as someone who goes to there it has really made an impact on my friends in higher years and they constantly are excited about going to their next class. I really hope one day this will be implemented in more schools but for now I will just be grateful for what I have.

In my country, when you meet another parent, they either ask you about your grades or about what school you’re going to. The problem is becoming so severe that many children have problems going to good elementary schools, so the government enforces a law for children to be selected at random for the top primary schools.

Exactly! I'm not proud of it, but I genuinely do not care in the slightest about what I'm learning, I just do it for a good grade. (And to be clear, I love learning, I just hate school) It has given me so much anxiety, stress, and loss of sleep. While I am a A's-B's student, I still feel terrible all the time. I flinch at hearing my own alarm, because I know that I need to go to school because of it, and feel so, so stupid all the time because of my inability to do math or science well enough for my own and other peoples standards. I hope that whoever is in the school system is doing well and exceeding, and I genuinely wish you a good day/night. ❤

When you specifically mention the getting an extra hour of sleep over working, I completely agree. Since going to college, I’ve started prioritizing sleep and other healthy habits over school work and this has led to way more productivity and success in learning. I set a deadline for my homework and studies, and if I don’t finish them in time, I simply accept I could have started them sooner and go to bed because doing slightly better on an assignment worth less than half a percent of my grade is never going to be worth an extra hour of sleep that allows me to learn better the next day. It’s greatly improved my outlook on school and learning and I’m hoping others can prioritize their own health over grades, even if it seems like a bad choice

The students complained they were cold, but the teachers told us that being cold wasn’t an excuse to dress out of uniform.

511Club the quote (nor the video) was not saying do away with school. As far as the quote - don’t just rely on what you are told in school to become all you know. Read, research, watch videos/movies, do the activities and topics that interest you. Look into topics deeper. Don’t just take what you are told in school as the whole picture. It’s the picture from a certain point of view.

I agree it's pretty silly how much people care about grades. The only reason a student should care about a passing grade not being an A is if they have some reason that it would be easier to achieve their desired career by going to a prestigious school (e.g. professor, researcher). But in most cases, that isn't necessary. I think there needs to be a change in the culture surrounding grades.

The diffrence for me is that the smart people are smart and can like answer anything about maths or something, BUT the people who score better are living theyre life. Look when ur smart u can get a job where u are getting good money but people who score better get millions of dollars thousands of dollars a week u feel me. So the point is as a smart Human being u are working and do the same what u did in school but ur just working and coming at 6pm back, as a Human being who scores better u got everything u dont even have to like litterally "work". Like I'm 13 go to 3rd grade but I could just hack someones phone and get their whole social media, I could do security hacks so I can attack them or secure them, so basically im a Hacker at the age of 13 it is not like that I have like straight F's no my grades are fine but I wouldnt need something called grades or school because I taught myself how to Hack do like security Hacking and some shit u know. So I could just earn straight up good money and when I have the money I could open a company and I would "score better" then the others u feel me.

Now that I’m 21 I’ve educated my own self about finance, life skill emotion skills, I was a shy kid who never used to talk as soon as I got out of school I opened up my confidence went higher I could manage finances better all that came from me and not from school, school taught fuk all I remember 0 for the past 14 years feels like I wasted it for no reason. Now I’m alot happier and can work on myself, this system needs to change it’s just a rat race.

Yes holy fuck it's atrocious the teacher last year would constantly punish the whole class and said "When you punished together you'll come over together, sort it out like brothers" Like it just made me hate those people more because more than once they wouldn't give a fuck about being punished and would misbehave regardless of punishments and they knew the teacher would punish us if they misbehave and continued to do so cause misbehaving was fun to them and it made me hate them more and the teachers more
@jess_bumblebee
@jess_bumblebee 3 жыл бұрын
yo this happened so many times like one person would talk and we get punished AND THE PUNISHMENTS WERE HELL ON EARTH I TELL YOU we would have to put our hands up and keep them up straight which would not be bad if we didnt have that for 10 to 15 minutes cause the teacher would leave AND if someone put their hands down more time would be added

As a history teacher, i have worked my first year trying to establish my style of teaching analyzation through history along with other teachers. I have even told students that dates dont matter. Memorizing names doesnt matter. Its why my tests are open note. Students should know how to reference information that a question requires and i aim to teach that. Students will never have to memorize a bunch of paperwork to fill out a form for work. I cant speak much for district tests and finals, but the smaller tests i make open note because memorization just doesnt work. If you retain the information great. If you lose it after the school year but you still know the skills to find that information again, thats just as great. My own little experience and goal rant is over.

I don't need to know how a caterpillar turns into a butterfly when im 40! i cant do this anymore, this school system was created over 100 years ago to turn out factory workers, and that cant happen with this ever changing world. i am hopeful that one day, one day this will all change. me and you are not alone in this

Ya honestly? School has broke me down. Way down. I’m in my last year of high school right now and school has destroyed my self esteem and imagination. I’ve always sucked at math. My brain can’t process it. I don’t even remember all of my multiples and what am I called for it? Stupid. On the other hand? Knowing the complex inner workings of societies? Being practically an empath? Being able to do over 20 forms of art with relative skill and creativity? Fuck, that doesn’t matter. It never has. And what do I do? I end up holding back tears as I stare at a board full of numbers and symbols for a theoretical problem. This doesn’t make sense. This isn’t a problem I can solve. It’s fake. It’s like trying to design an alien with no traits ever seen on earth. You can’t solve what isn’t there. It frustrates me to no end, and as a result? I only get screamed at. Called lazy, called stupid. This has been going on ever since I’ve joined school. K-12. And now? I’m not passionate about everything. The world feels like a black and white comic, drained of color. When I was little I used to write and draw all the time. Create fantasy worlds so complex they made more sense than some of our real life societies. I’m Synthetic and I used to see colors that weren’t there everywhere And now I just see them when I’m sad. Faint ghost imprints in my vision. Now it’s just grey.

I used to have a dream, a world, now it’s just me talking to ghosts. Honestly I don’t know what will happen to me in the future...like Ledger said, “the best way to predict your future is to create it.” Well I already did, suicide, death, nothing but black. My school is built like a ghetto tbh. There are almost no windows, we have to strictly walk on designated lines in the tile, the teachers are the only ones in control because I haven’t seen the student council able to do much, so we were forced to make a social ecosystem that was really messed up. Backstabbers, fake friends, false rumors, homophobia, bullying, and other stuff. One of my friends has ADHD and has told my teacher many times but whenever he sees her doodling he threatens to take her notebook away. He’s actually done it once. This pressure goes on and on generation after generation. Feel bad for the ones who were little kids then and are now in my place.

'There is a difference between being smart and scoring better.' I have seen so many people of my class scoring better just because they memorise things, they are just like robots. Our school system needs to be changed. They should make us visualise things and make us relate to it. Memorising things cannot help in anything except scoring good marks. If I go to shop to buy something, the shopkeeper will ask me to find the cost of pen if it is 5 times the cost of eraser or anything. 😂 What will I do after finding out the volume of gulab jamun? 😂 If I'm eating an icecream, why should I find surface area of cone, I bought icecream just to eat not to measure its surface area and all. What if I don't have interest in that subject? If teachers taught us in fun way, energetically and enthusiastically then we would have had interest in all these things. I don't have any intention to hurt anyone. Just here to share my thoughts that came while watching the video. Do share your thoughts on this. Thank you
