Here's a new episode of our Ocarina of Time's "Cool Things You Probably Didn't Know" series!
The sky illusion is obtained by using a small sky-box the encloses the camera, Ganon's Castle was the sole location of the game initially, the graveyard kid turns into a Skull-kid while searching for his father, Princess Ruto has eyes on the sides of her head that become blowholes when she grows up, and more!
A big thank you to Victoto (@victoto5) and Dusk (@Dusk_LearnJP) for translating the Q&A featured on the Japanese magazine "The 64 Dream".

For some reason, Ruto's extra eyes moving into her head as she ages is a lot more disturbing to me than her just having four eyes.

Some sharks have the ability to pull their eyes backward into their eye sockets as they bite. Hammerheads aren't one of them.

I always knew she had four eyes, but pulling them back in her head? To make... blow holes? That just doesn't make sense! I think spending way too much time in Jabu-Jabu's wacky, logic-defying, M.C. Escher designed belly has taken it's toll on her anatomy.

Ah yes, when I was a kid I had a great angle of view. As I grew up, two of my eyes slowly moved into my head and no longer work. Now I can breathe out of the empty eye sockets…neat huh?

I'm not sure if it even makes sense with Darwinian evolution. Those extra eyes, though small, probably gave her a greater field of range.

@@LegendofKal probably as a kid, they need the extra visual range to keep themselves aware of theirs surroundings for danger. Later as an adult wouldn't need them anymore because they can protect themselves now. So the extra breath could help to swim and dive longer. Dunno, I'm trying to make sense in something that doesn't make any sense.

Ruto being a hammerhead shark is *awesome* and blew my mind. I always wondered why her head looked like that, and I finally understand why BoTW has shark zoras. I've always seen the previous versions as being a mix of fish and dolphin, so it seemed like a big shift in their design. Funny to learn it was actually referencing such a well known character!

I feel bad for that kid turning into a skull kid, between Link's childhood and adulthood. I'm guessing his father went missing during Ganondorf's coup, and due to his fascination with the macabre, that probably lead the kid to even think of searching the Lost Woods.

The extra eyes are probably a defensive feature in Zora children. Either they're just eye spots used for intimidation or misdirection or they're real and they expand her field of vision. Either way, once she grew up she had no need for them, so they either faded away or either atrophied or she keeps them closed so that she doesn't creep humans out.

Who never thought that Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time were originally planned to be much like Super Mario 64 by having a Ganon Castle with different rooms and worlds linked together. Boy, I am glad that didn't happen. Unlike The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, Super Mario 64 as well as other Super Mario 64 clones (like Banjo and Kazooie) is as good as it is with it's linked world gameplay style.

@@Mari_Izu Right on the money. Another thing that may have play into it was that at some stage of the games development it was planned as an N64 DD release, which not only offered extra storage options but it came with the added 4 mb of additional sytem ram for 8 mb total. Due to these hardware enhancements, the game got more ambitious at that point. With a lot of very advanced ideas for the time that were cut off due to the project later becoming cart only.

There are sections that reflect the time of the day when youentered the dungeon. This is also seen in desert collosus hands or later in the series in Dragon Roost or Forest Temple in TP. #5 There are other enemy details you shoUld cover. Like when choping an Stachild arm or head. Finally you should pay attention to the game lighting effects. There are details in there that took years for other games to apply.

I use the light arrows on Stalfos as a quick kill strat in randomizer runs. Depending on if I get ice arrows or them first, that is. It takes one immobilizing arrow and one solid jump attack with BG sword. Tangentially, on the note of speedy kills, it takes 15 bombchu to kill the two iron knuckles in ganon's tower. Just enter the room and spam the bombchus without moving. They will both be defeated before they reach you.

You can clearly see Ruto has the same hammerhead eyes as child and adult in the OOT artwork though. Additionally, the only 3D model of her where it kind of looks like she has holes in stead of eyes is the original OOT model, and even on that one they kind of look like eyes. Her OOT 3D and Hyrule Warriors models make them look more like eyes. The only thing really pointing towards them being holes is that interview as far as I can tell. So is it possible that there is some sort of translation error, or that he made it up on the spot? Or is it more likely that the original OOT model is the only correct one, and all the others are wrong?
@ALivingFlame
@ALivingFlame Жыл бұрын
It's called retconning and inconsistency. The artwork depicted her with eyes as an adult and the game model doesn't. There are actually many contradictions between in game models and official art. They simply change their minds. By the time of OOT 3D and Hyrule Warriors, the artists decided it would be better if her adult form in game model had four eyes like the original artwork (probably because they felt it would make more sense and be more consistent).
