So I just got an email back from Printify customer support as I have been chatting with them. They said that Etsy does indeed collect ALL the sales tax for every sale no matter where they are located. They also confirmed with me that if I am strickly using Etsy or Ebay to sell my POD items on, and Printify and their partners to print the product and ship it as long as the order is getting uploaded from Etsy to Printify that we as the seller will not be charged sales tax unless it is a manual order such as a smaple order. They are saying that as long as we are doing it that way that we do not need any resale ST-3 certificate or sales permit. So as long as they gave me all the correct info we as the seller do not even need to worry about anything related to sales tax at all. Right? As long as we are ONLY USINF ETSY TO SELL ON. But if you have your own website or are selling anywhere else then you would be responsible for collecting and remitting taxes. Printify needs to understand that new POD sellers 99% of the time start this way and therfore you all should make it easy on us and right on top of your tax page have something that says all this. I have wasted 2 weeks of time researching all this sales tax stuff and it finally came down to I dont have to do anything regarging sales taxes until I grow and create my own website or start selling my POD products somewhwere else besides Etsy or Ebay, It really did not have to be this complicated. lol. I hope this helps new sellers that are strickly planning on only selling on Etsy or Ebay and using Printify for fulfillment of the items. Just know that times do change and things can change in the future and so you should always double check with etsy and prinitfy as time goes by. I am not an accountant or anything but this came direct from Printify CS.

Hey Brian! We’re glad our support team was able to straighten this out. Yes, online marketplaces should collect and remit sales tax on behalf of sellers, but keep in mind this is only for sales within the US. Since we are not certified tax professionals, it’s always worth checking with one for your specific business needs. We agree that there’s a lot of information out there regarding the subject and it can be difficult to find. We’ll do our best to make this info more accessible. We appreciate your feedback and thank your for sharing with other new merchants.

@@Printify Well I did check with my accountant and he confirms with me that Etsy collects sales tax for the entire United States, all of the Canadian VAT taxes, and the European taxes. So it seems as far as Etsy goes there's nothing for sellers to collect. Now as far as being tax exempt with printify as long as the order is uploaded through Etsy printify should not be charging sellers tax on anything regardless of where the order is correct? Again except for manual orders such as sample orders.
@Printify
@Printify Жыл бұрын
@@brian8431 Hey Brian! If you sell items in the US through Etsy, then you are exempt, as items are resold. In the rest of the world, tax is charged in each step of the transaction. There is no such thing as tax exemption in Canada and the EU, but you can reclaim that tax later through tax returns. Even though Etsy collects taxes, we are still obliged by law to charge tax to the merchant for sales outside of the US, just as Printify pays taxes to print providers. As we are not tax professionals, please use this information as needed to correctly handle taxes regarding your specific needs.

Today I found out I have to register as VAT-EU in the EU because I BUY listings on Etsy. Then I saw I have to pay additional VAT on these fees each month even if Etsy says they dont collect VAT on the fees if I have my VAT-EU number. It is crazy because in my country I dont have to pay any VAT unless I made 200.000 per year but somehow VAT-EU makes me pay VAT on the fees anyway

However, when I order from MY STORE attached to Wix, sales tax is not applied. The shipping is, though. WHY? 2. As a USA resident, do I need to register for a VAT ID number for the EU? Thank you for any assistance you might provide.
@Printify
@Printify Жыл бұрын
Hi, thanks for your questions- taxes are tricky! 1. Printify is obligated to collect sales tax from all of its customers (you) if a resale certificate hasn't been submitted. In your store, you as the seller are responsible for collecting tax from your customers. In other words, we don't collect tax from your customers, we collect it from you. 2. It's not completely necessary, but it depends on where your buyers and suppliers are. This video at 15.22 talks about this a bit more kzfaq.info/get/bejne/lbySp9xonJqmqJs.html&lc=UgxL3Hdk0EwbndbUj6d4AaABAg&ab_channel=Printify . If you use European print providers or have customers there, you'll be charged VAT. As there a lot of different factors to consider for each business and we're not certified tax professionals, we do always recommend consulting with a tax professional.

Does anyone know whether I still have to collect sales tax from the customers or are they responsible for the sales tax on each order? Thanks, Rahul.
@Printify
@Printify Жыл бұрын
Hi Rahul. Thanks for your question. Taxes are definitely a tricky subject! Printify is obligated to charge sales tax on any orders within the US unless a seller has submitted a valid resale certificate. You should check if you have sales tax nexus within the US, and then you can apply for a sales tax permit and submit a resale certificate. If you don't have nexus, this is where Printify will charge sales tax on the orders shipped to states where Printify is registered (no action is needed from your end, but we would then recommend raising the prices of your products to absorb the sales tax that will be charged on the Printify side). Our help center article here help.printify.com/hc/en-us/articles/4483601178897-Does-sales-tax-apply-to-me- explains in more detail about nexus and how you can check if/where you might have it. @@Printify Thank you so much for your indepth reply. As I am based in the UK it is a slight issue trying to ring the US to find things out. I have found out that each state has set it's own sales nexus. As in the UK unless you earn £85000 in the financial year you can not charge VAT on orders. I am under the impression that this is the same for sales tax. Therefore I am going to add a disclaimer to my website that the customer is responsible for sales tax on orders. I will not be charging sales tax. Until I reach the threshold for each state. I will just have to keep records of everything. I will connect Printify on this basis. Hey there, The tax you charge your customer and the tax that you pay us are two separate things. That is, the tax you collect and remit are from sales between you and your final customer. The tax you pay us is for the sale between Printify and you. If you submit a resale certificate to Printify, then you'll be exempt from the tax we charge based on the fact that everything you buy from us is resold. So you'll be exempt from paying tax to Printify, but you'll still have to collect and remit tax from your final customer. I understand that there can be thousands of scenarios but there should be a few basic mostly used ones for US sellers at least that you all could maybe do some videos on. It would be really nice if somebody one day could create an Excel spreadsheet that shows okay if you live in this state in the US and you have a sole proprietor or an LLC then you have to do XYZ to be tax-exempt from printify and if you live in this state and you use monster digital that gives you Nexus and you need to fill out XYZ for that state and so on. Hi! The steps may be different depending on what country you're located in. We recommend doing a simple Google search "How to get a tax ID number in [country]". Hope this helps!

Hi, I live in Mexico City, I already set up my store in ETSY and shared my RFC since I am registered in Hacienda in Mexico. I understand that with the invoice that ETSY issues me with that I pay the corresponding taxes only in Mexico, and so it should also be in Printify ? am I right ? In Printify I have not shared my RFC yet, where do I have to put it? Now that I am starting I only want to sell in USA. Thank you for your prompt response.

Hi there Printify won’t charge taxes on orders being shipped to Mexico. However, orders may be subject to customs fees applied to imported shipments, based on import regulations. As with all tax matters, we strongly recommend that you consult with a qualified tax professional to get specific advice for your business. You are responsible for understanding your tax obligations in your jurisdiction and for paying taxes on the profits you make.

@@ricardoeng7818 Hi! Printify is obligated to collect and remit sales tax on US orders being shipped within the US. However, depending on how much you sell, you may have economic nexus, meaning you may be required to register for sales tax permits. You can find more info here, but consulting with a tax professional is always a good idea too! help.printify.com/hc/en-us/articles/4483601178897-Does-sales-tax-apply-to-me

I live in Turkey and sell on etsy using printfy, but I still don't know what to write in the vat id part. Is this information too private? There is no such information anywhere. What happens if we make a sale without entering a VAT number? Is VAT identification number required please reply
@Printify
@Printify Жыл бұрын
Hi there, Anything bought and/or sold within the European Union will be subject to VAT and will be added to the order total on the Printify side. You can read more about VAT in our help center (help.printify.com/hc/en-us/sections/4471798480657-Value-added-tax-VAT-), however, we highly recommend consulting with a tax professional in this situation as there are many different factors to consider for each specific business.

So I guess I don't need to enter the VAT identification number. Does this mean that it does not apply to Turkey?
@Printify
@Printify Жыл бұрын
@@OneDivisionReally Hi, If you make a sale within the EU, Printify will add VAT to your order total. A VAT ID number would potentially allow you to eventually reclaim that tax. We suggest speaking with a professional tax consultant for your specific business needs as we are not certified tax advisors.

Hi Raju! There are a lot of things to consider when it comes to taxes and your online business. A lot of this will depend on where your business is registered, where you're selling and/or printing, as well as your local and country's tax laws.
