Wigs; worn by men and women at the time, was meant to convey youth and virility. People didn't live as long as they do now and got sick more often with even minor ailments (diarrhea, colds, allergies) being much more serious. Their toothaches hurt just as much as they do now but they didn't have real dentists, novacaine or antibiotics.

God help you if you're in a rush to pee. It is stately, formal and nice though. I bet those wigs were itchy. So many layers of clothing make plenty of places to hide a weapon or knife. Or secret letters or coins. Have the valet arrange a secret pocket installed somewhere. I have no doubt the shoes were never comfortable. Oh, you know the red heels mystery? Why did they have red heels? I theorize it facilitated quick visual confirmation of your foot entering a stirrup on a saddle. Easy breezy. My theory.
