If you want a more gradient look when you are using the blending stump and solvent, you should blend from light to dark instead of dark to light. Thank you for taking the time to so this. I love these pencils and hope everyone else can find the good in them, they are amazing.

I have had a few other artist comment on that as well. I think it is sort of a no-no for professional artist, but it works well for me and I like the outcome most of the time. We learn something new everyday. :)

I've never used professional coloured pencils the correct way, as I've always done my own sort of thing. I'd always start with a base colour, lightly coloring the areas of colours. By the time I'm done you could always see the whites of the paper texture and I would never completely cover the white areas up, giving the appearance of the drawing to look as if done on canvas.

Thank you for taking the time to do this! Believe it or not, I just discovered the world of adult coloring and graduated from basic colored pencils to prismacolors . It goes without saying there is a major quality difference (as expected) but if you don't know how to use them properly they will provide even more frustration in trying to accomplish better results with time. I found your video very helpful & motivating & just wanted you to know how much you helped this beginner!💜

I don't understand why a lot of people hate it. I understand how some people who have been using the pencils for decades can tell the difference, and they do prefer the old one. But most people who are complaining, seems like about the lead breakage, and from my experience, I believe they got over the quality control issue. At least it lead breakage has never been a problem for me. Though I'm not a fan of very soft pencil, and I can say the same about Luminance too. I like harder leads.

@ooXChrissieXoo

Derwent pencils may be a nice choice for you. But still that really depends what you look for in a pencil. If you just think Prismacolors are too soft for your liking, and can't buy Polychromos, then go with Derwent artist pencils (not Coloursoft), they are cheaper with harder leads. But you know what get a set of 12 and some more brown and purple colors, learn to use color wheel to mix colors and you will be good.

Marco Renoir, Derwent colorsoft, prismacolor is my latest and I love them all but I see how I have been using them wrong. Where my sudee stile and Marco raffine are easy to color hard with. But I see how I need to make a change and just burnish with my either prismacolor colorless blender or Derwent burnisher.

Hey, thanks for this extremely useful video. I just recently made the investment and got what I think is a modest but decent starter kit, and was hoping for a quick bit of advice. Since I'm a beginner I was fairly conservative and got the 72 ct. soft cores and the 24 ct. Verithins with a couple Prismacolor colorless blenders. Is there anything else you'd suggest a beginner might not know about to get the most out of these pencils? I heard you mention something about oil and was genuinely curious. Is there a specific type you use? Is it necessary with the Prismacolor blenders or is what you were using something else entirely?

I invested in some Arteza colored pencils. I want to learn to use them in general. This was helpful to have something to start practcing. I also didn't know about the blending medium. Makes a huge difference in the vibrancy of the colors. Will have to look into that!!

Thank you for doing this tutorial. I don't own prismacolor but I do own a set of Marco raffine. When buying the Marco raffine on Amazon, I read several reviews to make sure I was getting the best pencil I could for that price and I think I did pretty good considering the 72 colors for 20 odd dollars and are so much smoother than the crayolas I use. I eventually intend to do better and better and get a set of prismacolor but right now the Marco raffine is the best I can do. But in the reviews I saw a girl who colored a couple butterfly's in a adult coloring book. She colored it with the Marco raffine and some rose art, I believe colored pencils and blended several odd colors like orange to blue to yellow. But regardless of the non-existent gradient... She didn't blend at all. She just pushed super hard on both colors and just expected them to blend on their own and gave a bad review because of it. Which is sad because it was because she didn't have the knowledge of the special technique

This is the first tutorial I've ever watched. This was profoundly helpful. I'm transitioning from gel pens to pencils mostly because it's so difficult to find the right colors of gel pens (why does every set leave out plain brown??) and right now I'm mixed media with pens and pencils because I can't get the deep tones from pencils that the pens provide, but I'm sure this is going to help me a lot. Thank you so much!

I want to buy the Winsor and Newton blending and glazing medium....my only question is... is there a smell to it? or is it odorless?
@jalapenogal8856

There is a slight smell but it isn't bad and doesn't give me a headache whereas gamsol will. No matter what though the area should have well ventilation.

Love your work.I have recently started with adult colouring books and find it extremely relaxing and therapeutic.I own the full set of Polychromos pencils but am intrigued by the vibrancy of Prismacolor pencils.Can you advise if it's worth investing in a full set of Prismacolors or a set of 72 is good enough?As you are highly experience, it would be great to get your advise. I love the Polychromos so far but feel there are some shades that don't exist that Prisma has.Great work! Looking forward to more videos from you.
