My late Aunt Peggy Sheppard was an Andersonville Historian for several decades. I visited her in my early 20s in Andersonville. I am now in my late 60s and she passed over 15 years ago. she told me a story about a married couple who ended up in Prison. They had their boat pirated while celebrating their wedding. She had concealed her identity to remain with her husband, when they separated the women to send them home. She was pregnant and apparently, all three survived until they were freed. The mother and child were removed outside of the Prison. I am researching this for a Historical Fiction Novel and am looking for details if anyone has information about this story. Please contact me on this platform.

I'm southern & proud of it. Each man that fell from the south was equally has important as those that fell from the nort it is all very sad and northern prison camps.were equally horrible, even so there is great shame for what happened at Andersonvill how horrible those a Federals were treated my God the horror!

Pride, equal, important, sad, horrible, shame, horror. In the end, it’s all still relative.

The south was broke and losing. The average confederate soldier was not given much more in the form of rations but did have the advantage of foraging. The Union POW camps in Chicago did not have lack of provisions as an excuse for the poor treatment of Southern captives. War is hell

Check out Diary of Andersonville also by LibriVov In my opinion a better account. The inhumanity of man to other men is stunning. In lame defense of the captors, their supply chain was constantly interrupted so there wasn’t an abundance of of food. Some locals did what they could occasionally. This is a heartbreaking account for sure.
