Prius Red Triangle Fix - Code P0A84

On this Toyota Prius, we found water intrusion causing a problem with a wiring connector for the hybrid battery pack cooling fan. The water caused the terminal to corrode, resulting in a broken terminal.

Thank you. Exactly what mine did. The black and brown wires were both rotted off. I put new connectors on them and car is fixed. Perfect.

@@ingaclement4914 They are called spade connectors. Any auto parts store sell them in different sizes.

Pro tip for my friends in the EU. The plug in this video is on the LEFT SIDE!! I spent days trying to fix the red triangle replacing the fan relay, etc, on the right side, but it turns out it was just the same corroded wire but on the left side.

You also dont need a scan tool. A bluetooth obd svanner and the hybrid assistant app on android can control the fan.

@jenv2402 yep. Cleared it straight away for me. If not, disconnect the battery for 10 mins and reconnect or reset codes with a car reader. I also used hybrid assistant on google play to test the fan speeds work.

I had an 08 Prius then 13 Plugin Prius, drive them 7 years and went to Tesla. Man I miss the Prius reliability... might buy the next gen Prius Prime when it comes out, perfect! 👌

I hope so, I did my research on them. I have never owned a foreign car, always american. This time i wanted to search for reliability. I interviewed about 15 prius owners in parking lots, watched lots of you tube videos and hunted for a low miles gen 2. I found a 2009 with 44K miles on it and thought wow ! I had a pre purchase inspection at a Toyota dealer, oil filter change and bought the car cash. I had a check engine light come in in the first week and took it straight to Toyota who said it was a combo meter...$1100 repair. Crossing my fingers nothing else happens for a long while. Man I love driving this car.

@@ingaclement4914 wow, never heard of such failure 🤔 you must be unlucky. I've got my first gen Prius since 2016, it's mint, inspection has nothing to say about it, it's new. Not a single issue !

lol you should see the first gen. It was the best for me. I bought it with 180k miles on it and it lasted me a very long time. It now has 400k miles on it and the head gasket is leaking. It still runs though and if it wasn't for emissions inspection id continue to drive it. Still has original battery. only thing I ever changed was inverter pump and tires. That car just wont stop. I now have a second gen. Also bought with 180k. its now has 195k and ive replaced the servo in the recirculation duct. continuous blowing tail light. I had to silicone up the rear body cracks to stop water leaks. Another servo for the blend door needs replaced. My combo meter had to be replaced. My gas tank needs replaced. lol This is one expensive baby. Still drives though. nothing stops its from driving. but its very very sensitive! My gas tank will only allow me to put 4 gallons into it before it stops the pump. Have been an issue since I bought it.

Hello, my 07 Prius hv battery fan only works correctly when using the Hybrid assistance app. I suspect that Toyota controller might be bad or set wrong… need help! Thanks Frank

hello friend thanks for the video my question is the two cables need to have good voltage I have that problem but the brown cable has no voltage and the last thing you do to speed up the fan should be

Don't cheap out. Go to an electronics parts store, buy a new connector and contacts, and fix it right. Will cost all of $10 for parts. Also, soldering wires in a car is a bad idea. It makes the connection brittle and prone to failure.

Andrew R Ya I was a little surprised that he did not fix it right. Seemed like a pretty easy repair, I’ve done it before. Just can be a little tricky with the small wires and all.

Do you knwo the exact type of connectors those are? What they are called and the size of them? If so please let me know. I would like to replace mine without rigging anything. Ive just been doing a search for them for a good hour and I see similar ones but not the exact one. I thought they were called Molex connectors but doesnt look like it from what I can tell. And im assuming I should get 18-20ga?

I have a Toyota prius 2008 and when I drive in the motorway at 65 mph ,all the hazard signs (I.e.red triangle)appears on the dashboard of my car. Gradually the car power decreases which makes me feel worried whilst I'm driving. Do you have any idea about the problem of my car. Thank you.

does the fan run constantly ? or does it power on and off when it wants to?

( I borrowed this info from another site ) The fan is controlled by the battery temperature. It turns on around 97F and turns off around 93F and varies the speed the warmer it gets. So with ambient temps in the 90's you will want the fan to run to help cool the battery.

Does anyone know what the problem could be on this? I fixed the corroded plug. I cleared the codes including red triangle. The fan works but there isn't power going to it. I checked the battery fan fuse under the hood, 10amp is fine. Is there another fuse I should check? Otherwise I have to take it to a shop and get it checked for a broken circuit.

FishFind3000 Was never a fan of the Prius lineup. But my Camry is still running like it came off the factory.

@@FishFind3000 This is a 2006 car, that's 14 years old, a seal drying out being the only issue is amazing. Chevy can't even get a watertight seal from the factory. you're willing to knock an entire brand because of one issue that happened after 14 years. Wow

@@venividivici4253 i had a friend that went through 3 transmissions in his camery. they couldn't handle the power of the v6.... some reliability if you cant spec a trans that will last.

FishFind3000 I got a 97 4 cylinder original engine and transmission. But it comes down to how you drive it.
