Succeeding in both life and business is very difficult. The skills needed to scale a company often clash with those required to cultivate a thriving home life. Yet, Brent Beshore seems to have cracked the code-or at least he's actively working on it. In this conversation, he spills his secrets on excelling in both arenas.
This episode is split into two parts: the first 45 minutes covers life and how to be a better person. Brent opens up about the evolution of his marriage, physical health, and inner life.
The rest of the episode focuses on business. Shane and Beshore discuss private equity, how to hire (and when to fire) CEOs, incentives, why debt isn’t a good thing in an unpredictable world, stewardship versus ownership, and why personality tests are so important for a functional organization.
After beginning his career as an entrepreneur, Brent Beshore founded Permanent Equity in 2007 and leads the firm as CEO. He works with investors and operators to evaluate new investment opportunities.

Am I the only one who finds it funny that both Shane and Brent are not wearing any shoes in this podcast? I find the socks giving an extra dose of 'coziness' to an already 'soulful' conversation 😃

Beautiful honesty and vulnerability and such command over one’s craft (business, investing)! Truly shows that being “aware and sensitive” to oneself does not have to be a weakness.

As a Stewardship Manager in Responsible Investment, this really resonated with me, and on many other levels, as the conversation touches on a lot of areas 😊

I’m one of those people who just assume that I can probably buy a boring business and rock up to it and make it 10x better. Brent was right, people like me who haven’t actually run a business are the only ones who can say this. 😅 I feel so seen and convicted 😂 I’m also just finishing an MBA so this might also be why there’s false confidence 😂 That part of the conversation definitely humbled me.

OMG 😮this mindset has driven me always - having my identity on the short term wins - being genius of every meeting with out of the box ideas and providing immediate solutions.

Thank you for sharing. Financial education is crucial today to show incredible resilience and discipline in the volatile market, masterfully balancing strategy and insight for success. This dedication to continuous learning is inspiring...managed to grow a nest egg of around 2.1BTC to a decent 15B TC in the space of a few weeks... I'm especially grateful to Linda Wilburn, whose deep expertise and traditional trading acumen have been invaluable in this challenging, ever-evolving financial landscape..

The question 'When do you feel seen and appreciated?' made me reflect on my own experiences of feeling truly recognized and valued. I wish the speakers had delved deeper into this point:)

Great interview, and happy to learn about Permanent Equity. The group’s philosophy resonates with me - focus on sustainable growth and investment vs looking for a quick exit. Kinda like Tiny Capital. Thank you for all the work you do Shane

Huge fan of Shane and his excellent podcast + blog. 😊 Listening to this podcast episode this morning in the first few minutes of the interview,I just kept thinking’ wow, this guy sounds so much like a Christian.’ Did a bit of googling and excited to see that he is truly in the kingdom. As a believer as well, the fragrance of Christ was very evident in Brent and hopefully the transformation is clear to those who know him well/better. More than just material success may the Lord keep you in faith until the last day, brother. Post edit: if I had just waited to the end of the interview I’d have heard him give his testimony 😅

Hi Shane, love these podcasts, one point of criticism I have are these intros though. Why bait us with these snippets and cut out the juice? This is peak attention farming and not worthy of a podcast of this quality.

Lmao a private equity "expert" giving others advice on how to find true happiness. It was kind of you to give Morgan Housel's little buddy a platform though. 🙄
