I remember being terrified to use the radio when I was new to flying, then one day I suddenly started thinking of ATC as ‘team members’ working with me to keep me and everyone safe. It made it easier for me to reach out to my team members more confidently on the radio.

Where are you with flying now, Ron? I'm thinking about jumping back in myself. I'm 55 now, and soloed back when I was in my early 40s. Stopped flying when the kids were ready for college. Anyway, it's nice to see someone older than me that's also a beginner!

The critical skill is hearing your registration number when they call you. Very important to remember this number/code especially when you fly in rented aircraft - I once did a 40 min flight calling in the wrong reg, the real aircraft was elsewhere in the area so the controllers must have been puzzled by me jumping from one place to another. It helps to announce "student pilot" at least they know what they can expect. . Great video - brought back many memories of sweating bricks when the radio traffic got busy. Thank you!

Every single thing you touched base on was a tremendous help for my future flight training, airspace can be confusing if you're reading out of a book, helps to see it in action. I also live in Seattle and will eventually fly out of BFI, so seeing the area and witnessing the ATC comms the way you did and how it all works helped me tremendously. Thanks, Captain Scott!!!

Really enjoying your instructional videos so far, Captain Scott. I'm a private pilot in training and you help to keep my mind in the cockpit especially when I'm not actually in one. Your videos are easy to understand, clear and concise. It would be easy to understand how people drop out of their aviation training but with mentors like yourself one is able to appreciate that learning is a process. It's one step at a time. So, thank you. I really appreciate you sharing your knowledge and helping others to absorb the seemingly endless flow of aviation information.

You hit the nail on the head. When I first started flying I couldn't follow half the stuff ATC was telling me or if they were talking to me or someone else because they speak so quickly. Naturally, I was terrified. Eventually, it became as routine as talking to my wife but it was a steep learning curve. I am further amazed at your ability to multi-task without getting pilot distraction.

Hello from YYZ! Can't thank you enough for these videos. I started flying lessons about 8 years ago before my son was born and it was very intimidating. I can drive anything on the ground, trucks, tractors, cars, motorcycles, and thought flying would be easy but the communications spooked me. I thought they were talking another language, so I called it quits when my son was born and said I'd try again a little down the road. Well I've got the itch again and I've been watching your videos in preparation. They have have definitely helped and I am going to jiin your site to helped supplement my flight training. You're the best Captain Scott and wish I had you as my instructor! Keep up the great work! BRAD

Thanks so much for your flight training videos. I'm 57 and have my first PPL lesson this Wednesday. I feel slightly less anxious and slightly more prepared having watched your videos. As kids we were always around aircraft and flew a lot with dad in his PA18 Cub. Flying has always been of interest but until recently I have never had a reason to learn. For several very irrational reasons, some have said insane reasons, I have decided to build an RV-14 and the Empennage kit arrives soon. How much more motivation for obtaining a licence done one need. Keep your excellent videos coming. Kind regards.
