@@pedalingprospector2007 Yeah he says a lot of things to make the island seem a lot more desirable than it really is, doesn't mean any of it is true. But a quick google search brings up a wikipedia page and you can see there, just in the 21st century, 2007 the island was up for sale for $10M, 2012 the island was listed for $5M, which doesn't sound a whole lot like "the first time". Late last year is when this island went up for sale at $25M, but I fully expect that price to sharply drop in a few years... well unless you really believe him in that "there are multiple current offers".

Fun fact: years ago, I took a trip with my friend on his boat. We passed this island. There was a tent on the beach. I asked my friend if he knew about the island and if it was government property. He told me that he learned about the island from a news story, when it when it put on sale, and occasionally some people will camp there for a day or two. This was about 15 years ago.

Of course it is cash offers. All real estate in the Bay Area is cash offers. Usually well above asking. Bay Area real estate is being used for money laundering, foreign wealth sheltering, and speculative investments. In this case the impact on families and those searching for housing is zero. But the overall disgusting distortion of the market by the global wealth is infuriating. Especially since much of it is being bought and held through shell companies using corruptly acquired funds. The modern swiss bank account when better returns.

All the offers have been all cash. What is 25 million to a billionaire? 25 million is equal to 0.025 billion. 0.025 of 1 million is $250 So, to a billionaire, this is like throwing down $6,250 in cash, chump change. Large numbers are hard to wrap your brain around.
