In this project, we will build a thatched-roof middle gate in the garden. Please enjoy the traditional techniques that still remain today.

Previously, the opening of the round hole in the wall and the elevation of some of the paving tile ends and the planting of the very straight and tall cedars have brought movement in three dimensions to the garden. Now, the thatched gate brings a movement through time to a much earlier historical era as it frames the rammed earth wall. Your videos of the stages of construction allow us to appreciate the genius of the design as it is realized. Thank you so much.

The hand-hewn posts, beams & supports, the hand-tied and shears-shaped pampas grass thatching and the kawara tile-topped gate - instantly gives the new garden the elegance and essence of a traditional Japanese garden. Beautifully crafted and bespoken! The gate strategically placed at the narrowest part of the garden ordinarily just a pinch point - now becomes a highlight landmark in the journey through the garden!

Amazing! Absolutely amazing! I can watch these videos all day. The skills these workers have, I have a lot of respect for them. I would love to see houses being made from bamboo as it is environmentally good. Please keep making more of these videos. Keep up the good work and God bless you all. Love from Scotland

I’ve gotten behind in viewing these wonderful videos. I’m so excited to have three to catch up with. I cannot imagine how many layers homes take for thatched roofs! The patience in doing that. Every video I watch teaches me something interesting each time. 🙏🏼🙌🏼♥️

I feel like cheering! I wondered how you would give that narrow area structure, form, and meaning. The thatched gate blocks some view and focuses to another way of viewing. Love this project, the process, and the outcome. Please more and then more and more! You make my Sundays golden!
