Pro-Brexit caller cannot name a single EU law he dislikes | James O'Brien | LBC

This caller told James O'Brien he voted for Brexit because he did not want to be shackled by EU regulations - but could not name one that he disagreed with.
Boris Johnson and European Commission president Ursula von der Leyen will assess whether a post-Brexit trade deal can be salvaged following a weekend of tense negotiations.
The two leaders will speak on Monday evening - their second call in a little over 48 hours - after their top negotiators spent Sunday locked in detailed talks.
James asked Brexit voters why they had done so and Dave from Epsom said he is a Brexiteer because he does not believe in a "federal Europe", which he defined as a system of government where every state, including the UK, is "controlled by a central point."
However, James pointed out that this is the exact opposite of what "federal" means, as it is actually means forming a unity but remaining independent in internal affairs.
Despite James informing Dave of the definition, the caller maintained that he did not like the federal EU and Brussels "had too much control."
"Don't know what it means, but adamant I don't agree with it," James said.
The caller also supports Brexit because he disagrees in the idea of the EU having power over British waters; he cited Norway which maintains 85% power over its waters and has remained in the single market, and asked why the UK was not doing this - to which James pointed out the UK is not remaining in the single market.
James asked, "What are you most looking forward to about not being in the EU anymore?"
"Rules and regulations," Dave said, "we are a leader in the world, we don't need the EU to tell us how to do things."
However, despite being repeatedly asked, he could not answer which EU rule he opposed the UK having to abide by.
Dave then cited corporation tax, because if there is a No Deal Brexit or a permanent loss of corporation tax revenue, it could leave the Republic of Ireland as one of the most indebted countries in the world - James responded, "They say the only people it'll be worse for than Ireland is the UK."
James asked again, "Can you name one EU rule you don't like?"
Dave responded that he did not like the EU regulation on refugees, although he said he's not worried about immigration personally.

@ Shilcock 1. Not everyone who voted for Brexit had the same characteristics or reasons for their choice, many of them also had descendants living in the UK or EU. 2. In a democracy everyone who is eligible to vote has the right to do so. If you respect that democratic system then you have to accept that you may be out voted by people who disagree with you on one or more issues. Or, do you think the vote should not be given to 'these people' ? Presumably these are people not like you - middle-class, graduates who support centre-left political parties? @buroosh Are you referring to BAME communities and those people working in non-white collar jobs who have been exposed to public interaction? When he mentioned fishing and Norway, the EU negotiated a deal with Norway to access its waters. The UK could have participated in the same deal. Instead of accepting it our negotiators asked for 3 times the amount of fish Norway was prepared to give us. It didnt matter a jot to our negotiators that we didnt have the capacity in our fleet to catch that amount of fish, never mind process it. Norway, quite rightly said no, so the UK said to Norway they could not fish in our waters. Norway did like wise to the UK and banned us from fishing in their waters. Norway fully compensated its fishing fleet for being unable to access UK waters. The UK gave its fleet nothing.

I never saw anything like that but fair enough. If you're adamant about a position or ideal, you should be at least fairly knowledgeable in regards to that position or ideal (etc). That same passion can easily translate into more confidence which often times can help you under pressure. So for example, take a baseball fan, apply that same pressure and ask him to present an argument as to who the best baseball player ever is or to just name any baseball player and the results will likely be in stark contrast to what that same reporter got when he ran up on any rando and started urging them to name a woman.

It's not even about Brexit. Communitarianism is a thing in several EU countries but it has more to do with history's heritage, post-colonialism... I don't understand people thinking being out of the EU is going to make their brown neighbors to move out or to solve radicalisation and security concerns. On the contrary it weakens it by further impoverishement and potential removal to all the EU criminal databases ( same for the european on this point).

Fun fact: when Ronald Reagan entered the Oval Office to begin his 1st term, his top cabinet advisors came to him w/ a list of administrative / political goals & asked him to select which ones should get top priority. Reagan stated that they *all* should get top priority. Confused, his advisors explained that, no, that's not how assigning priority works -- they needed clear direction from him as Chief Executive regarding which goals should be categorized as having the highest importance versus other, less urgent goals. Again, Reagan stated he wanted *all* the listed goals to get top priority. For more details on this & other goings on of the wretched Reagan regime, read the book "Sleepwalking Through History: America During The Reagan Years".

We may be on the opposite sides of the Brexit vote but I like this old fella! Something about his slow calm plodding, absolute surety of his narrative, in that old cockney voice, was hilarious, despite him talking in Daily Express headlines. "Everyfink"...."speak to the Fwench, speak to de Germans, speak to the Dutch, speak to the Belgiums, speak to the Italians....". Like he was on a mission to the supermarket at 8AM.

Would you be interested in buying a beautiful, fully furnished, beachfront cottage in Huddersfield? House Elf included. There are unicorn stables on the grounds, but the Winnie the Pooh looks after them so you won't have to do anything.

I will never understand how these callers think. It's like they have never heard or watched the O'Brien be4. How can they think that throwing in a fancy word or two that they don't understand will be a pro for their argumentation??? One thing is that they don't understand the word themselves, but to assume that no one else in the world has ever picked up a book to read is pure stupidity. Let alone assume that James O'Brien doesn't understand the word. Who are they trying to fool???

This is why more of the older generation should have asked their children how they think they should vote as it's us who have to deal with the fallout from this nonsense.

So the common theme with most of the callers is they LIKE to think there annoyed about about a certain subject that they think they know about and care about (and they actually know nothing about)and as soon as there are asked about the subject, they fall apart quicker then a badly put together flat pack furniture brought from a well known diy store.🤣🤣.. which kinda brings you one saying " engauge YOUR brain before you opening your mouth "!!"🤣🤣

I stopped listening to LBC because I only ever heard Farage on it. I thought they were another example of the pro-brexit media like the majority of newspapers. I was wrong and it has been a joy to hear multiple presenters eloquently manage what I failed to get over to the few leavers that I know.

This reminds of the time when Katie Couric interviewed Sarah Palin. Katie: "And when it comes to establishing your world view,... what newspapers and magazines did you regularly read,... to stay informed and to understand the world?" Palin: " I read most of them..." Katie: " ...but what ones specifically?" Palin: " All of them. Any of them..." Katie: " Can you name any of them?" Palin: " I have a vast variety of sources"
