Something that's huge is the fact that all Adobe programs are compatible with each other. You can make an image in Photoshop, animate it in After Effects and then add that clip to a Premier file... All while still being able to make changes to any of those files that automatically update to all the projects that it's being used in.

In my experience, FCPX is leagues faster than Premiere. However, recently, I've switched over to using Davinci Resolve for most of our editing projects. There's a couple reasons we've done this, primarily because most of our projects can get very large, and FCPX starts to die on extremely large projects. Would love to see you do this same thing in Davinci Resolve. A word of warning: it's a complicated beast lol. Great video!

It was very interesting as a long time Premiere user to get an insight into Final Cut Pro. And I have to admit, I think there are some aspects of Final Cut Pro that are better than Premiere Pro. I don't think Premiere on its own is necessarily better. But what makes Premiere so unique is how it interoperates with all the other programs of the Adobe Creative Cloud.

Helpful tip: About the 1080p video that doesn't fit to a 4k project, you can right-click the clip and click "set to frame size", not the "scale to frame size". So when you "set to frame size" the video size matches the 4k video size and the scale property (in effect controls) will remain at 100%. The "scale to frame size" however does the same time except it uses the scale property and doesn't maintain the original resolution.

I think what it really comes down is it’s like shooting a camera with manual settings (premiere) versus auto settings (fcpx). I feel for KZfaq the magnetic timeline, the instant scale and auto sped functions, they’re what you need. But when editing something huge like a feature where you want all that instant manual control, I love Premiere. I’m going to probably do the reverse video of this someday.

To slow a clip down, right click on it and choose "Speed and duration". A small window will pop up, where you can fine tune the speed % to what you want, and also choose things like if you want the audio pitch to go down with the speed, or if you want to use frame blend or optical flow (Cor clips you slow down beyond the amount of frames per second, so you don't have repeating frames)

Fun vid, also a nostalgia trip on learning how to edit in Premiere (though it was my first editor). The biggest tips for me: -Set a key short for ripple edit from playhead position to beginning of clip (emulates magnetic timeline) -Do the same as above but for end of clip (emulates magnetic timeline) These two alone saved me a ton of time, although I have to lock the other tracks (e.g. BGM) to keep ripple edit form cutting *everything* -To size a clip, right click the clip and select "Scale to frame size" (extra clicks for sure, though) -When I adjust clip speed I right click the clip and choose speed/duration, there's a checkbox for ripple edit which again does the magnetic timeline bit...though this approach may not be the best for ramping speed...I'm still learning too. Like several of your viewers mentioned, I'd be interested to see your thoughts on Da Vinci Resolve, it's on my "to-try" list as well. Have a good one!

@marlonb1852
@marlonb1852 2 жыл бұрын
@@VinceVintage I would say that Premiere Pro isn't as efficient as it could be, however Tarans Mods to Premiere are mainly for productivity Freaks. For instance, one of his ahk scripts automatically mouses over to the scale Text and holds the left Mousebutton until he releases the key and put the Cusor where it originally was. Or tasks which are always the same for the LTT editing Process. I recall that he has a script which automatically applies Gain, sets both the left and the Right Channels to mono and applies a basic Color Correction all within 2 Seconds. And that is all that he needs before doing the rough Cut of the A-Roll Theese are all mainly small automations of repeating tasks, which you would find in any other Program.

Premiere is more manual, which is better for some editoris because of the fine-tuning aspect of it. The automatic resolution fill and the magnetic timeline could be something that would slow down a different editor that would like it a certain way. For example, if you'd like to replace a clip that is in sync with the sound without having to adjust it a few times to be the exact length of the video that was there before, Premiere keeps the space of the previous video, which you can just fill up with the replacement video.

The moment you start playing with after effects and can do both Premiere and AE it get's really, really hard to go back to another NLE.. I do both compositing and editing and the flexibility I have when I have to change some motiongraphic-stuff is just next level in premiere when I work with shared compositions. thank you for being the someone that goes against the narrative of “Industry standard” i use and love fcpx and think there’s a lot of easy to use features (still wish somethings would change). can’t wait for the next video with a more even and far comparison on which is better (i’m gunning for fcp haha)

insane, I missed this notification I even have the bell on but It wasn't pushed out to me, I was here because of twitter. anyways this helps me alot because I've used Final Cut Pro x, I've considered premier, and currently using iMovie/luma fusion to edit my KZfaq videos/ tiktoks so maybe I'll take the leap into something new! much love to you always Hayden! dont worry about feeling it flopped, the people that needed to see it, will go find it. you're not for everyone, you're limited edition :D

I see everyone talking about premiere vs Final cut and how he's doing everything wrong on premiere. BUT this is literally the plot of this entire video to eventually having the need to use skill share to learn premiere faster. THIS is absolutely THE PERFECT sponsor video LOL great work

Where premiere really shines is keyboard shortcuts. You can set them exactly how you want so you never have to lift your left hand and your right hand is always on the mouse. Makes things so much fastee

I believe that it doesn't matter what editing software you use. I traditionally use Premiere but a client wanted me to use DaVinci which is a good editing software but I now understand your struggle of trying a different software.

As a system and productivity freak, creating ultra custom keyboard shortcuts made all the difference to me in Premiere. I can essentially do everything you need to do using only my left hand - never having to let go of the mouse with my right. Regardless, there's a ton of stuff that could be more efficient, but they're mainly things like previewing your audio while using the slip tool etc to save time, which you showed in the video. Oh, and optimisation. It's terribly slow at times. I don't like Premiere. As an example, 8 of my essential keyboard shortcuts are: S - Cut/Add edit D - Move playhead to selection 1 - incremental zoom in 2 - incremental zoom out 3 - Zoom all the way in 4 - Zoom out to show entire timeline 5 - Delete E - Ripple delete Great video Hayden! 👏

this video is everything i've been saying with premiere and why it's making me want to stick with vegas-- performing such simple tasks such as ripple cutting or panning and zooming take SO much more work than it should; in vegas if i want to ripple cut, i press s to split the clip at the playhead, make sure ripple cutting is enabled, and simply hit delete . i've had to change half of premiere's default shortcuts just to cut efficiently...but i know this is from my lack of knowledge on the program

4 mins in and I love this video so much as I'm a clumsy Premiere user and it's teaching me stuff I was ignorant of. Would you consider setting this challenge in reverse to a pro editor who uses Premiere? Then if you both worked on a new piece together and taught each other? Just dumb ideas of stuff I'd love to see. Great work, keep it up!

As an ex-Premiere and ex-FinalCut editor, I totally understand how you're feeling like. I'm now working with DaVinci, loving its structure and the Fusion Node system, but as a MacOS user I miss some FinalCut features: the magnetic timeline and the Trackpad integration are definitely 2 of the most important ones.

Yes, fusion node system is incredible! Usually people who are switched to resolve ignore the fusion page and focusing on the color page. While Fusion is pretty capable on creating motion graphic and vfx, and it is used in some of the hollywood film production. Although it is quite understandable that people ignore fusion because the fusion inside resolve (or fusion page), beside it is pretty intimidating for beginner, it is laggy. I usually use the standalone version for serious composition.

A lot is to do with what you know - there are editors I can't wean off Avid. Premier Pro BTW has a way to map all the shortcuts straight from Final Cut which is an instant boost for all FCP users moving to Premier Pro.I switched to Adobe when FCP (11?) was discontinued because I like the control of two screens. The latest AI transcription and word match in Premiere Pro is a game changer for editing interview.

I love both editing programs equally. Premiere does feel more clunky but I feel it makes up for it with it's compatibility to use After Effects within projects.

From what I've heard, Premiere is really intuitive if you often use other adobe programs. Such as "v" seems to always be the curser and things like that. That being said, the speed of final cut is why I love it.

There is also a shortcut called "Ripple Delete" which works in the same way as the magnetic timeline. You just delete the clip and it drags the project along.

To bring audio in... Simply drag the audio icon under the video and drag into timeline.... To video automatically... Turn on auto scale to frame size... All of the same features you mentioned are in premiere... Some just aren't on by default.

This is me in Divinchi resolve… I’ve been using Premier since 2003 lol. It’s comfortable and I know it inside and out… divinchi is great if you are on a budget or it’s comfortable to use for you. The best software is the one you know how to use lol. I will continue to try and learn DR but I won’t be switching over anytime soon. The node system is a little much. More complicated than it needs to be. But I understand what they are trying to do. Love your work I take notes on All your videos and appreciate all your work.. maybe not taking notes from this video.. but still 😂

Please try Davinci Resolve. They have an FCPX shortcut preset that sets all the shortcuts to fcpx default in addition to allowing you to customize and add shortcuts. And i believe that it exports faster. I think you will like it!

try assigning a keyboard shorcut to the ripple delete, then you basically delete and move the entire timeline back, as you stated. Or just right click the clip and press ripple delete. And to slow down or speed adjust the clip once again right click on the clip
