Thanks for reviewing my image! It was number 3, the pasta arranged into a suit. I definitely thought I sent an unwatermarked one so I guess I hit the wrong export settings. Whoops. First off, agree about all the technical suggestions and the next time I attempt it I'll put more work into the lighting. This isn't an excuse, just an explanation, but I only used two of those little LED RGB panels to work with, so that was all the power they've got and putting them farther away would have cost me a lot of light (if you look at the metadata you can see I was already at 1/6 of a second). That said, next time I'll put more work into the lighting. I've been wanting to retry this shot with a tweak to the concept anyway.

if you're low budget neewer lights can more than tide you over till you can afford more expensive ones. tbh you may not even see the point in "upgrading" once you get used to them. my only advice is be sure to get at least 300W strobes. anything less than that you will need to replace the moment you add light modifiers other than the standard reflectors

The Picanto driving creative thinking a combustion engine's piston is either a weed grindr or a part of a coffee machine was just *chefs kiss*, thank you for that moment Scott!

7:42 is me!! I shot it on a nikon d3500 and you’re absolutely right about the filenaming, it’s something I’ve been meaning to put a system together for for a long time so hopefully this’ll give me a push, but thank you so much for your critique, I really appreciate it 🖤

Thank you so much for reviewing my photos. I shot the engine parts 29 and 32. Funny seeing all the comments about them. I got some inspiration for the piston one from your work, so thank you for the advice of it being flat, I will try to make it more dynamic by having the blue box at an angle to cast some shadows. Also the file naming…

@18:16 I completely agree, you are right its too messy. I just got those geometric shapes and forgot about the most important thing, the product. Thank you! And f22 cos i wanted it in one shot without focus stacking to save time but i ended up patching two images anyway. I'm glad you liked the green color at least :) will do better next time. Its weird that in this job, you have to focus so much on one image, make it perfect if possible and then shortly after forget about it and move on to the next project.

loved this vid so much, helped me figure out how meticulous and professional you are looking at the fine and important details like clean cups, no smudges, etc, along with bits of advice on lighting. loved it. chuckled when you confused engine parts with weed slicers and coffee distribution tools though haha.

One of your main quibbles was on filenames. By so much critique I was wondering what your filing system looks like. According to my thinking, a file name is completely inadequate anyway. You need tags, stars categories and all sorts of things stuffed into the metadata. But then filing a photo consumes much more time than the time used for taking it. Including any editing.

25:37 It’s an piston for an internal combustion engine, a 4 stroke piston. Hard to tell what engine but, my guess would be some sort of small engine piston. 🤙🏻

Question: What would you suggest are good ways to keep up with current trends? For years I subscribed to the British Journal of Photography, but stopped as they changed the format and it just seemed like a recycled repetition of the same contrived "edgy" surrealism month after month...

Do you have a video on suggested file naming as I have the mothers own job finding files I took in the past. Haven't yet stumbled on a good system to be able to lay my hands on exact images quickly yet. Need help before it bites me on the ass down the road.
