Dimmu Borgir is a Norwegian symphonic black metal band from Jessheim, formed in 1993. The name is derived from Dimmuborgir, a volcanic formation in Iceland, the name of which means "dark cities" or "dark castles/fortresses" in Icelandic, Faroese and Old Norse

Who doesn't like symphonic metal? I love many kind of music from classical to this...almost anything, if I can only appreciate their musical abilities. Sometimes I listen to classical guitar or violin, even accordion, sometimes bands like Metallica, Megadeth, Pantera, Wintersun, Children Of Bodom or Amorphis. I can't say that I'm a fan of this type of vocals and lyrics thou, but because of Tomi from Amorphis and Jari from Wintersun, I have started to even like growls and screams a bit. Still Nightwish is the biggest one for me, but it is like one comment I just recently read said, Dimmu Borgir is like darker brother of Nightwish. Musicianship and these arrangements are phenomenal.

I’m not a huge fan of this genre myself but I love Dimmu! This is def not my favorite from them though, I think that’d be Mourning Palace and Council of wolves and snakes.

The orchestra is KORK (Kringkastings ORKesteret) if i'm not wrong. It's an assembly of pro-musicians who has collabed on different projects. Some of these becomes fans... Like what you will discover if you check out "Mourning palace" from Wacken. Nice you were so open that you actually got some chills! That ending is pretty effing awesome!!

Agnete is the lead singer of Djerv. You should check it out! Djerv - Headstone for instance :) She also used to sing for a Norwegian pop rock band called Animal Alpha back in the day, also got some cool songs

If you want to hear some OUTSTANDING vocals, you really should listen to older Dimmu songs when ICS Vortex was in the band. He was the true voice of Dimmu and with him they became bigger than ever. As a singer I think you will really appreciate his voice. True loss when he left.

New to the channel, glad you enjoyed Dimmu! I don't know if you mind more prog-y stuff but in case you don't, I'd recommend Vintersea's performance from Slay At Home (featured on Metal Injection). The band actually has some melodic, black and death influences as well, it's hard to classify them as one particular genre, and the vocalist is pretty talented and with a decent range in the growls

Not sure if anyone already directed you here in the comments, but that captivating woman is Agnete Kjølsrud of Sweden's Djerv (she also has some side-projects and one other band called Animal Alpha). I wanted to suggest it specifically for the actual great mix of orchestral and metal, and the balance Agnete Kjølsrud brings! I would usually agree with you totally, the genre is too overly dramatic. And yes, she has an awesome voice. She is my personal favorite female metal singer. She is often a session singer. She does have a band though, which isn't too well known, called Djerv. She is also known for singing the intro song for the character Jinx in League of Legends (the game), and the video is watched 99 million times here on youtube, another 30 million have heard it on Spotify. Aside from the choir I didn't hear anything symphonic about this. However I did enjoy it.

Definitely try to listen to one of their good songs like Mourning Palace, Insight and the Catharsis, Kings of the Carnival Creation, Arcane Lifeforce Mysteria, In Deaths Embrace, or The Promised Future Aeons. Gateways is a terrible song, and from their worst album.
