Just my 2 cents....... It's probably because of the Colosseum of Rome with the gladiator games / executions. People enjoyed watching other people suffer so they eventually brought it over her in the US and just publicized it to death.

Us wrestling fans have become so desensitized . if any one of the clips were somehow shown to fans in the 80s they would wince at everyone of em lol ! Most of these moves would have been a hospitalization angle hahaha ! As some should be , because where do you go from here ? After weed whackers and flamethrowers all that's left to do is to just shoot somebody in the ring . But the deaf referee didn't hear the gunshot ! Everything is legal in a no DQ match folks ! OMG , how did he kick out at 2 ???? The man was just shot Tony ! Tony - he must not have got all of it that time , I think he was only grazed .
