They just don’t compose TV show themes like they used to... with catchy hooks, amazing orchestrations, and that undefinable “something” which made them so memorable. Really feeling the nostalgia. 🙂

I actually have the original 1972 95 minute pilot on VHS with Hugh 'O' Brien. This was one of the best series ever on television. My daughter and I were watching it so much we had to convert it to DVD. It still rocks after all these years.

WOW! Brings back the memories! I loved this show, whether it was called "Probe" and/or "Search". I had no idea Leslie Stevens was behind It (The Outer Limits), nor that Domonic Frontiere had done the fantastic theme song (also from the Outer Limits). I loved this show when it was on NBC and watched it, as well as "Night Gallery" religiously. Not to mention the NBC Mystery Movies. This was a great time for television!!!

An amazing score - so 70s with the unison flutes and trumpets with horn flairs with just a hint of violins - and the touch of secret agent riffs the trombones -- just perfect.

@methu124 I agree. Absolutely beautiful. Dominic Frontiere, Lalo Schifrin, John Williams, and Jerry Goldsmith composed some of the most awesome television theme music. They'll never be equaled much less surpassed. Now we don't even get television themes, just credits rolling during a show's dialogue. The end credits are even worse with a diminished screen within a screen so small that it's impossible to read the credits and you can't hear any music because of the load voiceover. Crazy!

On the back of the box for the 'Complete Series ', it says, "The Coolest Spy-Fi Show You've Never Seen!" Which was true, except that I DID see it. When it originally broadcast. I thought it was cool then. And given some of the shows that HAVE been brought back for another go, well, just imagine what they could do with this concept and our current technology. Are you listening at The CW?

@SolarisBreeze57 Frontiere was a master! His Outer Limits theme will always stay with me (referring to the first season - not the second, which was scored by someone else using a theremin. His themes, or rather, parts of them were played throughout the first season. ABC always used parts of "The Galaxy Being" and the second episode aired, which I think was called "100 Days of the Dragon." Parts of both of these scores were used to fill out 1st season episodes. Stunning music!!

And subsequently, the movie/pilot's title was changed to match the TV series, "Search" - it was under this revised title that it was shown as a film on New York station WNBC-TV's "Movie 4" on May 11, 1973, a year after its original airing - and a year before "Movie 4" was cancelled to make room for a two-hour newscast, "NewsCenter4," whose set was designed by the same person (Fred Harpman) who'd designed the "Probe/Search Control" set out of which Burgess Meredith's character worked.

Absolutely LOVED this series. Having 3 lead actors rotate kept it fresh. Was really sad that it was cancelled. Had hoped they'd eventually do episodes with 2 or even all 3 heroes. ne could have been in jeopardy while the other(s) worked to rescue. IF it were to be redone I'd like to see 3 KNOWN leads - have 1 a woman - instead of 3 unknowns. Just like the original show used well-known tv actors.
