In this interview with SNI Deputy Editor Parul Chandra, Dr Dan Schueftan who is the Director of the National Security Studies Centre at the University of Haifa in Israel talks about the hopelessness of the Arab states. Dr Schueftan also argues that the situation in Arab states is worse than it was before the Arab Spring. And that the problem in these nations runs far deeper where their society is to be blamed more than their leadership.

I hope the Indian Muslims are listening to this talk.. Those among them with the slightest intelligence would see that trying to emulate this dysfunctional, intolerant, desert-culture, deeply intertwined with tenets of their currently dominant faith, leads only to societal degeneration. The wise ones should abandon this foreign influence imposed upon them by the invaders and return to their Indian roots

Arab Spain was a paradise of culture, trade, science, agriculture and industry. Every century or so a new fanatical sect overrun it and turned everything upside down. Until its wealth corrupted the newcomers. The whole house of cards was so unsustainable that Christian barbarians who couldn't stop fighting each other had it on its knees in three centuries. BEFORE the sects started invading. The only reason it didn't end then was that the Christians could not absorb the Muslim population and they lacked the people to resettle the conquered lands. They had to do it bit by bit over five more centuries. If THIS happened to Al-Andalus what hope is there for any other Muslim nation?

Iran is a very beautiful and civilized society no doubt. Middle East mixes religion and politics in a deadly manner from medieval times so not much hope! Dubai is an exception though worth mentioning ! USA actually tries to colonize other countries in the disguise of free world leader which it is far from . Israel need USA protection to survive so all good with US for them . Europeans is done with colonization and wants to rest a bit! Japan , Korea and other Asian countries adjusts and reacts as the world evolves ! CHINA wants to be big brother but has hesitation about " do we qualify ". Australia is like whatever USA says! ASEAN countries are like we are between West and China whichever side good for our economic benefit. In the initial stage Dr Schueftan's Comparison regarding Colonization of other countries with Singapore is wrong though, colonization was not a curse but rather boon for the migrants of Singapore. They worship the British for bringing prosperity to the island which resulted migration from Mainly China and surrounding countries. Modern nation state of Malaysia also is the result of colonization by the British. Indonesia had more adverse effect of colonization among ASEAN countries I believe. Meanwhile INDIA is like we are 5000 ++ years civilization which gave the world so much and later colonization took away so much from us but now we have to reclaim our place in the league of nations again and still figuring out the path to it!

Iran has civilised people, and it also has fanatics. It's nowhere near as bad as the Arabs, or turkey, but it is still bad relative to non Muslim countries e.g. Europe/China etc.

So the "only exception" when it comes to secularism in the middle east is Dubai ? Are you even serious ? Dubai is not a country but rather part of the UAE which basically looks like any gulf monarchy filled with wahabists. Don't you think Syria , Palestine , pre war Iraq , Tunisia , cold war Egypt , cold war Algeria ... would be better examples ? Btw all of these examples of secular states in the middle east were either destroyed or weakned by the west and their allies (gulf arabs and Israel) .
@biswabose8577
@biswabose8577 5 жыл бұрын
@@user-sx1mm1sl6u To some extent I agree that pre war Iraq, Tunisia or even Egypt was certainly better . Example of Dubai is given due to its Economic success and successful blending of Modernity with Religious monarchy, at least for the outside world! I know its UAE and . I agree that Dubai cant be considered good example of secular Arab. Dubai just an modern phenomenon compared with ancient civilizations of Iraq and Syria etc.

@@biswabose8577 Keep in mind the UAE has a ton of natural resources , a small but monolthic population (citizens ofc) and a history of western allignement . They can't be compared to countries like Iraq , Syria and Egypt where the country is split along sectarian , ethnic , religious and regional lines but those countries always tried to build a national identity and they did succeded to a large degree . I hate it when people blame all the problems on one side to avoid the responsabilty , but this is the reality , the west and Israel are the prime factors in most of the middle east's problems either directly or undirectly (and by extension their puppets in the Gulf and Egypt) .

@mark vaz Chinese are restlessly searching n excavating their rich past for last 30 years to fix up their narrative n contribution to the rest of the world... On contrary, India has just started exploring it's own past by it's own peoples instead of western peoples... And bye d way In 2019, India will be launching it's 2nd Lunar mission in which a rover is supposed to land on darker side of moon. Within 2021/22, India will be sending manned space mission... India has it's own GPS system, India tops in World's IT industry, tops in generic pharmaceuticals.... Yes India has some poverty n india recognizes that.... it's "only democratic" India which has uplifted millions of people from poverty apart from China which is not democratic. But Indians should continue exploring it's own 10000 years rich history with simultaneous exercise of modern science... From infinite series to ancient surgery, world must know India was the pioneer...

@mark vaz as per u, - India is too much busy in excavating it's past n still world wide recognized books on ancient India are written by western peoples! that sounds utterly oxymoron.... nobody is opposing English medium study in India due to it's socio - political reality, but simultaneously, India needs to search it's own history by it's own findings... that's not illicit expectation, I guess! on contrary Chinese will never allow a westerner to write Chinese history.... Japanese, Russian, German, French, Chinese people do understand the importance of history n unfortunately we Indians don't! Yes, I'm not disregarding the importance of contemporary pragmatic education to be propagated on behalf of the State itself.... India never identified the importance of it's history, still India lacks in cutting edge R&D. therefore, acamedia should incorporate all round studies in it's curriculum... that's it...
