Having done it, I can say this guy is making this more complicated than it really is. KZfaq has plenty of videos which show the whole process. However, I would say that it was a lot of work grinding the floor to the right surface.

1. Check moisture content before istalling- It might peel. 2. Correct ratios or it might be affected by UV light. 3. Hire professionals to do a better job. That is it. No other problems. First Epoxy, then the supersaturate with flakes 3. Put a clear coat of Polyspartac , you are done.

Epoxy as a base coat is a bad idea. 1. it's not going to flex with your concrete. 2. It is not UV stable, so you end up with yellow spots. If polyaspartic or polyurea are so great, why aren't you using it as a base coat?

Just FYI, a Polyaspartic system is a Polyurea technology system. Then there is moisture content in the concrete (as shown in the video) and then there is Moisture Vapor Emission issues, which is a different test procedure.

I saw one company that advertises that they do 100% polyaspartic for both coats, and says other companies only use polyaspartic for one coat and polyurea for the other. Is that nonsense?
@ErikLiberty
@ErikLiberty 8 ай бұрын
@@jbw9999 ChatGPT 4: Companies might choose to use polyurea for one coat and polyaspartic for another based on the specific needs of a project. For instance, if a base coat needs more elasticity due to substrate movement, polyurea might be chosen. The top coat might then be polyaspartic to utilize its UV resistance and prevent yellowing. The company you mentioned uses 100% polyaspartic for both coats, emphasizing the benefits of polyaspartic coatings. However, the choice between polyaspartic and polyurea will largely depend on the specific requirements of the project and the desired outcomes. It's always a good idea to discuss with the concrete coating company about why they choose certain materials over others and how it benefits the longevity and appearance of the coated surface.

I’m surprised no one has mentioned the smell. The offgassing I have experienced in the last 24 hours is unbearable. I did have professionals install the coating. They used both polyurea and poly aspartic. The smell is horrendous. I was not warned at all. We have left the garage door open All night and yet the smell and fumes persist. It has reached every corner of our home. We have opened all the doors and windows and have fans blowing as well as air scrubbers but I still can’t shake this headache It’s giving me. Unfortunately, what you are doing is really all you can do once the flooring is put down. Thank you for your comment! You're absolutely right; hydrostatic pressure can be a significant issue under a garage floor when applying polyurea coatings. Ensuring proper moisture barriers and addressing any potential hydrostatic pressure before application is crucial for a successful and long-lasting coating. @TheHomeSolutionsChannel
@TheHomeSolutionsChannel 9 ай бұрын
Re-coating is always an option. The biggest factor that could pose a problem is what damage is causing the moisture to enter your garage and making sure that is addressed before re-coating. Once that's taken care of as long as the concrete is in good condition a re-coating shouldn't be a problem. The old coating would need to be ground off and then you should be able to apply a new one.

Is this coating mould and fungus resistant? Will it stain? Is it suitable for swimming pool surface?
@TheHomeSolutionsChannel
@TheHomeSolutionsChannel 2 жыл бұрын
You can coat your pool deck, and the coating itself is stain resistant, as well as being antimicrobial so there shouldn't be too much of a problem with mold or fungus. With that said, it varies per client, but the coating can be found to be too slippery on a pool deck and depending on the level of standing water that the coating would be exposed too, there is always a risk for rusting or staining if no preventative measures are taken. It would be best to talk to your installer about what options they have for the best and safest pool deck coatings. Thank you for checking out the channel!!

Thanks for the information! I have a question that I'm hoping someone can answer. I'm dealing with cracks in concrete slabs in Florida. I'm pretty sure that I'm prepping them properly as I've researched the "how-to" information at length and I've been a mason for quite some time now. The problem I'm having is finding a product that will last. Most of the work I've done has been in New England where the aggregate in the crete is much different and the temps don't get nearly as hot as Florida. I've tried just about everything from different types of caulk to every crack filler sold at the giant supply stores, including polymeric sand. All the products that use water in the mix seem to be the least effective I think because the concrete is so dry and the sun is too hot, I even tried at night and laid burlap down for a few weeks watering consistently. Nothing seems to be working, or at least not to the standards I would put my name on. Thanks for any input that anyone can provide!

Or should I just go with whichever one has the longer/better warranty? Thanks for any help you can provide.

Both are great products so it's best to dig a little deeper into the installer. Personally I always look at the longer/better warranty and weigh that out with the cost. It doesn't matter which product you choose if you go with a company that won't install it properly. If someone has a lifetime or equivalent warranty you can trust that they will stand behind their work in the long run and you will be happier with that product. Hope this helps.

Thanks for reaching out about your polyurea flooring odor issues. It's frustrating to face this after ensuring proper installation. Here’s what you can try: 1. Ventilation: Continue using industrial fans to improve airflow. 2. Inspection: Have the returning company check the mix and application. 3. Curing Process: Verify if the curing time was sufficient for your specific polyurea type. 4. Top Coat: Consider a different top coat that might block odors. 5. Reapplication: If necessary, re-grind and re-apply the coating. 6. Second Opinion: Getting advice from another flooring expert might also help. Persistent odors are uncommon and can be addressed with these steps. Keep us posted on your situation, and share any successful fixes to help others with similar problems.

I would never get this product on an outdoor slab. From the research I've done and from the review of warranties provided by companies, the warranty really is only for the product itself and not the labor or installation. So if you have to warrant an issue they'll cover the product but you have to pay all the labor to redo it. That is not a warranty in my mind. In addition, there are a plethora of problems that can develop as a result of moisture in an outdoor setting that makes this product not worth the price.
@TheHomeSolutionsChannel
@TheHomeSolutionsChannel Жыл бұрын
You are absolutely right! A warranty is only as good as the company that is honoring it. There are some companies out there that will cover the installation, but not all of them. When installing a Polyurea Coating you want to make sure the moisture levels are checked before installation to try and avoid any moisture issues in your concrete.

I have a question, it lasts for YEARS you say but clearly not forever. What happens when it's time is up and it has aged or just looks dated? When you paint a room it is pretty easy to just paint over the old paint, but when you buy a house with some cheesy seventies paneling or just dated faded wallpaper that is screaming IMPEACH RICHARD NIXON it is a lot more work to remove it than it ever was to put it up. How hard is it going to be in say 20 years to remove?
@TheHomeSolutionsChannel
@TheHomeSolutionsChannel Жыл бұрын
Thank you for checking out the video and the question! You're right, nothing lasts forever. A polyurea flooring isn't any harder to remove than it was put it down. When you have a Polyurea flooring installed, you have to grind down the service to open up the pores to receive the coating. So you would basically do the same thing, you'd grind down the surface to place down whatever new flooring people are doing to their concrete in 20 years. We grind over Epoxy floorings when our clients are changing to a Polyurea flooring, so this would be equally doable if you no longer wanted the Polyurea flooring.

@TheHomeSolutionsChannel
@TheHomeSolutionsChannel 2 жыл бұрын
Thank you for checking out the video! Moisture problems can be mainly identified by the surrounding features. Such as , If the concrete is in an area that consistently has water on it, such as by a pool or is being washed a lot. Another reason you could have moisture in the concrete would be if the mixture is too wet or it isn't cured properly. Your contractor should be able to check the moisture levels of the concrete, and there are moisture barriers or curing sealants that could help draw any moisture out.

@TheHomeSolutionsChannel
@TheHomeSolutionsChannel Жыл бұрын
To properly install polyurea the concrete surface needs to be prepared by some sort of grinding. There are some polyaspartic coatings that can adhere right to the concrete without prep, but with the aggregate it could impact how well it would adhere.

@@TheHomeSolutionsChannel what about using one of those decorative concrete rollers? What if you had a roller that had a CSP finish of lets say 4-5, could you just roll that to finish your concrete then be ready to pour after it cures?
@TheHomeSolutionsChannel
@TheHomeSolutionsChannel Жыл бұрын
@@MysteryScienceGaming Great question. Most likely it would be similar to putting a coating on aggregate. Without the pores in the concrete open, from grinding, for the coating to adhere too, there is no guarantee your coating will last as long as it could. You can absolutely finish the concrete with a CSP and lay a coating on top, but without the smooth surface there is a lot more surface area for the coating to try and adhere and could lead to some imperfections in both appearance and longevity. If you do go that route, we'd love to hear about how that works out for you so we can continue learning new techniques ourselves so be sure to share!

This makes polyurea a versatile option for anyone looking to personalize their space. Thanks for your question!

If I get my wood steps coated, will it last?
@TheHomeSolutionsChannel
@TheHomeSolutionsChannel Жыл бұрын
Thanks for checking out the video!! That sounds a little off. If the moisture level is too high for a Polyurea coating, then you can have a moisture barrier applied to prepare the concrete for your coating. You shouldn't need to get a specific type of coating due to the moisture level. We feel, that using polyurea and polyaspartic together yields the strongest result. So that is how we do our polyurea coatings. Any combination is not wrong, just one of those things where everyone has, what they feel, is their own secret recipe for success. Polyurea will not last on wood steps. When properly installed, your concrete should be ground down to open up the pores of the concrete for proper adhesion. So when it comes to wood that level of bonding is not available. There may be some deck restore products that can have a similar look that would be made to adhere to wood. Hope this helps.

I just spoke with my concrete coating leader and she said that any reading over a 5.5 is when we suggest a moisture barrier if after a week it doesn't dry out on it's own. She said that a 3.25 should be an ideal moisture level for either Epoxy of Polyurea.

Is it slippery?
@TheHomeSolutionsChannel

A concrete coating should not make your concrete slippery. Of course if there are other factors involved like water, oil, or other types of chemicals on the surface then, just like concrete, your surface could be slicker than expected. The polyurea coatings we specialize in use vinyl chips that are similar to shredded paper and give the flooring an orange-peel-like feel to the finish and help with slip resistance.

he didnt cover the recommended ASTM sheet test, instead he went right to tools
@TheHomeSolutionsChannel

The ASTM Plastic Sheet Test is another option you can do to discover if moisture is present in your concrete. However, for checking moisture you can get a lot more precise data, and quicker, by using a moisture meter. According to the Material Expert, "It's important to understand that the ASTM sheet test only provides qualitative information regarding the presence of moisture and doesn't provide any quantitative measurement of the amount of moisture present. This method used to detect the presence of capillary moisture in concrete." www.materialtestingexpert.com/concrete/astm-d4263-moisture-in-concrete-plastic-sheet If you are doing your own install, then doing the plastic sheet test is a great low-cost option to get an idea of moisture being present in your concrete. As an installer, it makes more sense to use the right equipment to avoid asking our clients and crews for the extra time required to run the ASTM test. Thank you for checking out the video!!

Why would you be bonded for a garage floor 😂😂
@TheHomeSolutionsChannel
@TheHomeSolutionsChannel 8 ай бұрын
While insurance offers protection for the company, bonding offers protection to a business's customer. If something goes wrong, the customer can file a claim against the company, and the bond purchased by the company will cover the cost of the claim, provided it is deemed to be valid. Thanks for checking out the video!!

Is cheaper just to get new concrete 😂😂😂
@TheHomeSolutionsChannel
@TheHomeSolutionsChannel 2 жыл бұрын
😂 That is always an option, depending on the size of the space. But your new concrete still won't have the durability and aesthetic appeal of a polyurea coating. 😉

Mixing too fast doesn't create air bubbles....the air bubbles only comes from the concrete. Air bubbles forming because you mixed to fast is a myth that people don't stop mimicking. Out-gasing creates the bubbles do to air in the concrete......not from mixing the product too fast.

Thank you for your comment! In the video, Steve mentioned that for those on a time crunch or with budget constraints, like preparing to sell a home, a DIY kit might be a quicker option. However, we strongly believe in the importance of doing the job right. Proper installation with high-quality materials ensures durability and long-term benefits for all homeowners. Your emphasis on quality and doing the right thing is greatly appreciated. We always aim to provide the best solutions for everyone.

Great example of what not to do as a business (use a young chick with no personality, who prob doesn't even know a da_n thing about the product). And like @tedtimmis8135 said, the dude made it sound more complicated. They should have just said "Save time installing your concrete coating. Use SWE! Here's why..."
