converting a jet jam into a $300 semi fast brushless pool boat

Nice video @Chris Simkin. I will leave mine stock. I pulled the jetdrive apart and found that there is some unsmooth mold flashings and blunt edges. I rounded and flushed everything with a sharp knife. I've also 3D designed and printed a 30mm bij 7mm TPU coupler, let me know if you need the STL so you or anyone can print the coupler. My 390 brushed motor was getting hot so I installed a 12V 35mm fan in parallel with the motor to cool it down somewhat.

Nice. I would like to get a 3D printer at some point I think it would help on my new project. But i need to get a new computer and editing software first. I might also try to make a water cooling system for it on the cheap with just some brass and rubber tubes. I've also started a high speed Traxxas slash project.

Super informative! Thanks I just run 2S lipos in mine. It's enough speed to entertain. Batteries are only $15
@jimmynuketown56482 жыл бұрын
Those batterys gonna put u in danger and might catch fire since there built cheap.
@Cynocehali2 жыл бұрын
Nah I swapped out the ESC so I get Lipo cut off and storage then balance charge them with a regular charger. No issues after 20 runs.
@xiar55462 жыл бұрын
@@jimmynuketown5648 small 2s lipos even from Spektrum are pretty cheap. And your risk of it catching fire is only there if you don’t charge and discharge the batteries properly

Nice video. How do you think it would go as a recovery boat with the pvc piping fork people make?
@chrissimkin88232 жыл бұрын
I tried it with the orange one and with the scoop it comes with and it almost impossible to do. the jet jam will only turn when you'er on the throttle. So if your coasting into your downed boat you can't make small adjustments. then once you get into a good position and start pushing it is also extremely hard to control the jet jam. I've tried probably 8-9 times and I've ever been successful

The flytec V008 I own has 35V caps. Do you think I can use a more powerful brushed motor or maybe 3S lipo's?
@chrissimkin88232 жыл бұрын
No probably not. It's probably going to do the same thing that my sg1603 mini drift truck kept doing after I put the Traxxas 380 motor in it. The ESC kept going into limp mode. You would have to do the motor and ESC . So that means changing everything
@leirameirarc2 жыл бұрын
Great upgrade! I was thinking about doing the same to mine actually. Do you know how fast it runs on brushless now? My Flysky V008(jetjam) runs at 10 mph stock... Btw, I heard that someone put a 3S in it as stock, is that possible?
@chrissimkin88232 жыл бұрын
3s on the stock motor and esc maybe possible for short runs. My wltoys 144001 will run 3s for short times. I can't get a speed meter in the jet jam but it's probably around 25-30mph
@leirameirarc2 жыл бұрын
@@chrissimkin8823 Thanks for the confirmation. I want to try 3S sometime. Are you sure about the brushless speed? That doesn't look like 30mph in your video, more like 15-20.
@chrissimkin88232 жыл бұрын
@@leirameirarc ya it's probably somewhere in the 20s. I think things tend to look slower on camera too. but I have now cutout the inlet to allow more water inn and I'm try to get the GPS in it.

Any esc has the same feature as stock like how it slows down like 50% when the battery is low?
@chrissimkin88232 жыл бұрын
You have to get a programmer card for the ESC to change the cut off voltage
@acche-rc2 жыл бұрын
@@chrissimkin8823 that's a hard cutoff though. I don't want the boat to die without a warning
@chrissimkin88232 жыл бұрын
@@acche-rc no they have a limp mode. But you should feel it slow down a little just before the limp mode

Just the cheap mini blue ones you can get on Amazon
My brushless Jet Jam has problem with the water inlet when it run in full speed. How u fix this ?
@chrissimkin88232 жыл бұрын
You have to run it on perfectly calm water to stop air from getting in the inlet and try not to run over your own wake

And make sure the the back of the boat weights more than the front

What do you mean? Take off the cover?

Cut the plastic grate out of the intake with a die grinder. Especially right inside near the back. Then make ur own grill. All cavitation fixed

Is there any video on what your talking about
@Ryan-vf2qz11 ай бұрын
Is is it "worth it"? No, but that not why we are hobbyist RC boat tinkerers/builders.😂
@chrissimkin882311 ай бұрын
LoL 2s wasn't to bad 3s was a hole other problem I'd hit a little wave and it would disappear for 15 SEC's under the water and it would only run on perfectly smooth water
@chrissimkin882311 ай бұрын
It's to fast on 3s it sucks up air if there's any waves or ripples and you have to pulse the throttle 3 or 4 time to clear it
@Ryan-vf2qz11 ай бұрын
@@chrissimkin8823I agree 3s is too much. I was referring to the brushless upgrade. I enjoyed the video!
