Quick, concise, doesn't make the assumption that a person looking up a tutorial knows exactly what their doing. Explans why the do things and slows down during complicated parts. it's amazing what a difference a teacher can make. Especially after a bad experience last night. You sir have earned a sub and that is not something I do often. Thank you for the hard work.

The green oxidation of copper is raised, unlike with iron. So do not invert. While it does corrode the copper oxide expands. By default all copper is a rosy color, which can only really be seen when submerging it in water with citric acid (which will immediately "orang-i-fy" after a few seconds . The copper we see everywhere is already oxidized a bit so it appears it stereotypical orange color. From there the copper begins to turn a brownish orange, leading to firm patina brown, then the bluish-green oxidation starts to form. The Copper looses shine throughout, only appearing completely shiny in its rose state and its minor oxidation state which is fresh or scratched copper. The brownish orange offers only a bit of metallic glimmer, and the copper looses metallic when it turns a firm patina brown, even before turning its final color. The surface will not fully raise till the copper starts turning green, appearing the same flat even surface until a medium brown starts where it picks up some roughness and minor raised surface, that begins to turn green. How smooth the surface is can vary by alloys and conditions. The green surface oxidation is should always raised while still on the material, even when kept smooth in some coins or copper that has been set in a controlled oxidation. It will start to fill in fine details like applying paint over and over again though. In extreme cases like with old pipes the the oxidation can form a bubbly surface with the green or even brown patina, and the oxidation will fall off in chunks or flakes like rusted steel, finally reveling the corroded copper.

Hi Ryan, just another amazing tutorial from your *"Procedural Material"* playlist. Two tips that might help you: With _Node Wrangler_ activated you can quickly mix two nodes together via _MixRGB_ by holding Ctrl+Shift and drag with RMB from node to node. To reset a node just select the node and hit Backspace. best regards | Tommy

I just recently made a video about that: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/n5p3dKup2aqlo58.html In the new Blender update, they changed the Mix RGB node, to just the mix node. So just add the mix node, and change the Float option, to Color. Then you can use it just like the mix RGB node.

Nice node work. I can follow along, but get out of my present depth when you start adding the voronoi texture and multiple bump maps. Other stuff like color ramps is second nature. Just need to do more of your tutorials for the other stuff to click. But, uh, the very beginning I was having a hard time doing the set-up. Couldn't get the plane with the emission to light up the objects worth squat, and couldn't get the background image to disappear. Did a work-around using Easy HDRI. Later I figured out to use one of my older Blender files where I did your wood tutorial, and re-use that setup. Just thought I'd let you know about the initial difficulty because it could throw some people off. In the end the material looks really cool. On to scratched metal, and rusty metal. I need a metal for something I'm working on, so will have to tinker once I figure it out well enough. Your videos are ideal training for the express purpose.
@RyanKingArt
@RyanKingArt 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks! If your using Blender Eevee, then the emission lights won't work, and so you should use regular lamps instead. To set the background to transparent, open the Film Tab in the render properties. And Check mark, Transparent.

another awesome one! Question though how would one get some bumps/rust to come out and some of the bumps to go in, like a mix of both? just run two setups and maps through the bump nodes? ie chain them together?
@RyanKingArt
@RyanKingArt 2 жыл бұрын
Yes, you can use the Bump node, to chain together multiple bump maps. So you plug the texture data into the height value on the bump, and then the Normal output, goes into the normal of the next bump node. : )

How do you get it to behave like real oxidation, i.e., on all the top surfaces where the rain would hit it over time and then leave the sheltered surfaces with less? And also follow paths water would follow naturally to create smears downward like happens in reality.
@RyanKingArt
@RyanKingArt 2 жыл бұрын
Oh, those are some cool ideas. I'd have to play around with the material for a while to figure out how to do that.

Could you do slightly dirty copper or better yet, Brass as a tutorial? I've noticed when I look at reference images of bullets, they are dirty, and have some slight scratches, but are not rusted, and not as dirty as the Dirty Metal looks. You could make it Brass to have it be a material that you haven't covered yet, and also, I think doing more subtle imperfections could be a good beginner's project. Also, excellent video as usual!
