I got my shose today! It is my first experience with custom shoes. I have Limmer Lights and my son has Limmer Meds. I would say Songlim (I odered their medium) are ultra-ultra-light by Limmer standards. They are about an inch higher. I wear them just for 15 minutes and top part feels a bit uncomfartable but I think it is a matter of break-in. My feet is not standard. Relatively wide and very high arch. In case of Limmer left leg feels so nice and right not that good. Hope custom Songlims will work for both legs. )) What I sertainly likes in Limmers more is a sole. In Songlim it feels too thin and flat but Limmers uses Vibram more hard and wave shape that makes walking very comfy. Limmer makes custom only very hard "Standard" version at higher price and over two years queue. For the price Songlim is unbeatable. Constaction wise - Limmer. But for such money I do not recomend to buy online. My son got Limmers only because I bought wrong size based on dimention of my leg.

this is one of the best youtube videos I've watched ever. they had me from the moment the foot forms were made for the exact fitting. incredible watching the effort skill, materials and craft that goes into every step, knowing that one mistake could result in having to start over. I'm guessing it's at least half a day of labor in each pair, not including drying time. If I had the means I would go to South Korea and buy a pair made for my feet. Can't imagine how many years of apprentice it takes to get to this level. And the wear on one's hands.

I know, right? Crafts don't get half the credit they deserve and some none at all especially in the age of mega manufacturers when it's far more rare. Crafts like knitting get zilch. People can look at someone making boots and go "oh yeah I see why they cost so much!" but heaven forbid if you're a knitter and someone wants you to make a hand made, fitted sweater for them and you ask for a minimal fee. Materials alone would probably be $100+ if they want animal fibers, then they raise an entitled fit expecting you to make a hand made item for free because "you can just make it and it's easy!" okay, then you can make it and you can invest the years of practice in the skill then spend 70+ hours making the sweater yourself. And the gigantic slap in the face is when they go out and buy a $500 "100% merino wool" mass produced ill-fitting sweater that clearly has acrylic in it from some department store.

I gave up on hiking boots years ago when I switched to running shoes. Heavy boots gave me blisters and turned ankles, which light trail runners don't. Trail runners even work in deep snow with gaiters and Gortex socks. I still enjoy watching the craftsmanship of the bootmaker.

For me hiking boots are the best. Like walking on clouds. This one is one or two level too hard. These are more for mountaineering on a rope in a team with irons on a glacier. My boots have the same Vibram* soles, though. Indestructable. I got my boots not handmade but a brand that fits to my feet and still 260Euro (from a standard shop 380Euro). I had a pair for 25 years and bought just the same model again... This kind of handmade boots from the video would cost about 2000Euros made in Europe and they last a life long. You might inherit them to your son if they fit.
