Hey ladies! I've been cross stitching for 60+ years. I'm now 71. I am NOT a techy person and have watched you two since your first show How refreshing. Saying I'm not techy, I just found you on my phone- I've watched all on TV YouYube. Anyhow," in the day" i was told I was NOT a cross stitcher as I almost always used Aida. Or, on handtowels. My friend said "real" xstitchers worked only on linen. So glad to see that change. I am an "intent stitcher"! I choose pieces to stitch FOR someone and get great enjoyment in thinking about the person that will get the piece; what they will say, where will they put it, how long will they keep it. And after that I am the product stitcher. And I love those fancy project bags that are out now, but i can't afford them...my budget is very low--medicine or project bag🥴. Anyhow. Thank you for showing me this new world of Xstitching.

I was a project stitcher for over 40 years but since discovering flosstube I’m more of a process stitcher now. I want to stitch all the things.✅

Lol right now I have 112 WIPs and am starting at least two a month for the rest of the year. I am a mood stitcher and would get bored if I didn't have variety. I start what I want when I want. I enjoy all my projects and do have finishes, but I love seeing plain fabric turn into the beautiful picture. I love how we each have our own way to stitch. Great video. ✅️

I'm a project stitcher and one of the things I like about it is that sitting on the couch watching TV is lazy. But if I'm stitching than I'm being productive, I have something to show for the time I've spent. I also like the recognition from others as to the beauty of what I created. I have no creative talent but I can still be creative. I live alone and have more than 50 framed or displayed cross stitch in my home. I was a monogamous stitcher until I started watching flosstube but I can't imagine having more than a few and so far all but 1 is small. This was very informative hearing Stephanie's thoughts on her process, I never thought of 'living in the project'. Your thoughts helped me understand the process stitchers reasons. Thanks for sharing.

I love my sister dearly…she is a crafter too…our methods are so different and we look very different. I am lucky to have her just as you are lucky to have each other. Together you have fabulous variety. My family loves the process of our stitching and sewing but we always have the goal of completion in mind.

✅️ I used to be a monogamous stitcher. It was about the product, not necessarily the process. I took an almost 20 year break from stitching and when I came back there were all of these choices that were new, different fancy floss (more readily accessible), new types of fabric, new types of patterns. Now I have a lot of WIPs, I haven't counted recently but would guess that it's over 50. I have definitely changed to a process stitcher. My biggest reason for that is because I love to stitch in season, I don't want to stitch a snowy scene when the sun is shining and the temp is over 80 degrees. Having said that though, sometimes I switch back to product ie, I'm currently stitching on "April Snapshots" because I have less than 1000 stitches left and I just want to have it done (rather than put away until next April).

But since the pandemic, I picked up knitting and made hundreds of hats and donated to local charities. I also started cross stitching for myself and I want to stitch everything! So I've been very influenced by flosstube!

✅ I’m kind of both… like… my own projects are picked out based on whether I think I would want the finished object, but I work on them much more like a process stitcher, and it’s more like my practical side is telling the process side, “ok, process is ok, but it does need to make sense as a finished object” (which is why a lot of Mirabilias just aren’t ever going to be something I’m going to pick, because mermaids and fairies just aren’t something I really imagine myself wanting on the wall). But I also will absolutely drag my feet on finishing and especially in fully finishing anything that’s for me, because I don’t want to spend the money on the frame right that second, when I could spend it on more supplies! But I’m a project stitcher in that a large number of my projects, and the ones that all get the most work, are presents for other people. But that’s still done in a process type way because with very few exceptions, I’m not going to stitch a pattern I can’t stand - it has to be something I find interesting, even if it’s not something I would pick for myself, which is why gifts are a good place to stitch the things you like but won’t fit into your own decorating.

I’m not a stitcher but I love watching flosstube. I am a Diamond painter,monogamous and can now define myself as a process worker. I give away most of my stuff. Friends say “you should frame that”. I’m like, Nope. I just like diamond painting, I don’t care what happens to it when it’s finished. ❤️🇨🇦

This was thought provoking for me as I have stitched in some category most of my life. Everything I stitched initially, was monogamously done to completion and gifted. So over five decades, I've "made" most of my gifts (not by any means all cross stitch) so now I feel like I have left a legacy, although many gifted may or may not have or have displayed!

In addition, I change my decor in my home seasonally, especially framed art. But I don't stitch seasonally. I love Fall & Halloween and stitch them year round! Living in Tampa Bay, we have eternal summer, so I feel being from TN, I have to create my seasons inside with decor and food, of course❤

I like to only have one project going at a time because I feel pressure to work on the opposite project. But I like to stitch anything and everything that catches my eye. If it’s funky and beautiful to me, but I’ll never hang it anywhere, I’ll still stitch it for the love of doing the project. I have a ton of things that are not “fully finished” in a box and I love to go through them once in a while it makes me happy

I am a project stitcher. I pick a project, know where and how it is going to be finished and where in my house I will put them or if it is a gift. Since coming back to stitching two years ago I have picked up more wips. I now have 9! lol and that gives me anxiety. I know where all nine of them are going but having them unfinished is giving me anxiety. Having them unfinished makes me feel driven to complete them. I love the process stitching them while I work on them. I am also like this with my scrapbooks- completions. I am like this with house projects. I completely admire those who are process stitchers. I admire their peace in just sitting with a project.

I am defiantly a process stitcher. I will even enjoy vicariously stitching through other peoples stitching. I love seeing the pieces grow and the different ways a project can be worked on. Once it is done... eh, it goes into the drawer of doom. That said, I do like finishes and have some things framed and finished and all that. But that isn't the reason I stitch.

Hi, girls. It was a very interesting discussion. It's one of your best episodes, in my humble opinion. Me, I think 🤔, am something in between.... I have about 15 WIPS, most of them are big to humongous.... so finishes don't occur often. I just flew in stitching, not thinking where the final product will leave. I really loved the idea of living in the project. ❤❗️

I’m 1,000,000% driven by FOMO. The term “SAL” means “start a long”. I have so many kitted up projects that I may never get to, yet I want to kit up so many more. The struggle is REAL, y’all!! I love playing all your videos. I love hearing you two chat back and forth about what you are doing and your thought process behind why you feel the way you do. ✅ I’m a bit of both. I “live in the piece”, but I also love finishes. I was a monogamous stitcher for over twenty years, but I think that was due to finances. It’s been 30 years of stitching now and I have quite a few WIPS. I do feel guilty about not finishing things before starting another. Also, love Daria and Trent! Reminds me of my teenage years 😊

✔ I'm a process heavy project stitcher. I want to stitch all the things but my budget won't allow it. I have to really love a pattern or have an idea of what to do with it before starting. However, that doesn't mean I FFO them right away. I'm okay with letting a project sit until I feel ready to FFO it. I definitely mourn a project when I finish it. I finished a project on Friday with nothing prepped to start right away. Lesson learned! I need that next project ready to go next time.

Love your channel. And how different you are as sisters. I’m a product stitcher - 100%. I want my enchanted mermaid Mira hanging on my wall, if I ever finish stitching her. My goal is by end of year too for her to be finished. I only have 6 WIPS and all have a plan where they will be displayed in my house. Im not a monogamous stitcher but I’m selective on how many WIPs. If I had more than 6-10 wips, that would totally stress me out. 😊😊😊

✔ Definitely team project stitcher here! I only have six wips and that's more than enough for me. I have lately been wondering if I should have more though, because maybe it would tone down the guilt and at times obsessiveness over finishing. I notice that when I do stitch on a project for a few days and then put it away, I actually have made some nice progress. So they will be finished eventually. I think the trick is to have as many wips as you're comfortable with, and setting up a rotation that works.

I have been stitching for 40+ years. I started out as a monogamous stitcher, then life got crazy I found cross-stitch on Facebook and flosstube. I have 33 WIPs, however I still want to stitch to complete. I try to focus on about 2-4 a month and then throw in a few others that have been calling my name😊. I have decided to make August my month to stitch on projects that I have not given any time too, so they know they are not forgotten . ✔️

I was always a project stitcher before Flosstube, and then became a process person. Now I've settled into a happy medium where I always have a few projects on the go, and have whittled my bin of 'I'll finish that way later pile' down to a level that doesn't guilt me!

I'm totally a process stitcher. I've only stitched for maybe 4 months and I already want to stitch all the things. My spouse is like no more until you finish one and I just smile and nod while I secretly plan my next start lol. I am agreeable with the living in the stitch. I want to stitch all the time and I also never get bored. If I feel I'm getting bored I switch it up. I also feel in time I may need to incorporate a wheel spin to pick wips to focus on. A few finishes would keep my spouse at bay lol. Love these videos ladies!

I am one of those people who work on one cross-stitch project at a time. However, I do have other projects I work on along with it, but I limit myself to one type of each project at a time. I am bad about buying pretty cross-stitch patterns. I have enough to last me the rest of my life, but does that stop me? -- No--no it does not. 😆 Great chat video! I do have some "projects" that are probably going on 3-40+ years...maybe more. I'm trying to improve on that. ❤ ☑

Sometimes I’m a process stitcher. Sometimes I’m a project stitcher. Usually it turns into the latter when I get closer to a finish. Then it’s a matter of getting it finished, framed, and on the wall!

I would call myself a progress stitcher. I only say this because of movies like Groundhog Day. If I woke up every morning and all my previous progress was gone, I would not continue to stitch. So it's not the actual process of thread in and out. It's seeing the progress accumulate over time. Do I like the process, sure. Would I want to do it if I was never going to see it building each day? No. But I am 100% not a product stitcher. I have a closet of hanging finished pieces that I love to go and look at occasionally, but it's okay that they are not fully finished and displayed. I enjoyed this so much as I could really see myself in your descriptions. Variety is so important, but I also have the same issues with space/resources. I will say spinning the wheel each week for what I will work on the following weekend has been huge for me. There is no guilt because I will touch said project whenever the wheel tells me to. I'm not making a choice. The project can't be mad at me. Ha ha. But also I know that because I have around 50, I will work on most projects each year, but not necessarily every single one and I'm okay with that. Some years the wheel favors one project where it might favor another the next year. My stress comes from having more stash than I think I can get through in my lifetime. It's not so much the smaller projects, but the big full coverage pieces that toss me into a mini midlife crisis. A couple of years ago I decided I was going to finish a bunch of stuff. I did. But I soon learned I will never do that again. It left me with a ton of large projects that were nowhere near completion so I couldn't have any quick finishes. This is the same reason I will never have a no start year. You need a good variety of things in different stages. If you don't start new things, you will eventually finish stuff, but then everything will be far from a finish for a long time after. I don't know if that makes sense. Maybe it's just me trying to rationalize. ~J

I used to be a project stitcher years ago I think. At least I never had more than a couple things going at the same time and when they were finished they were either given to the person I made them for or up on my wall. I didn't stitch for many years while busy raising my son's. I found it again in 2020 and probably am a process stitcher now unless I start something as a gift for someone. I like getting things finished, but also like variety. I'm also easily enabled by floss tube. I'm trying to be more choosy now as some projects have been abandoned because I only started them because everyone else was. My wip count is higher than I would like and I'm working on bringing it down. An idea for projects you would like to do but don't know what to do with is putting it in a cross stitch journal or scrap book. Take care.✅

Well, I LOVE to start things! But this year I am making it a goal to finish one old WIP, and then I allow myself to start something new. And yes, I have probably 60+WIPs. I always make cx baby and wedding gifts. I just love playing with colored string. I have been stitching for over 50 years! ✅

I used to think I was a process stitcher but a finished product is part of the process. But after listening to this conversation I aligned most strongly with Alison and being a product stitcher but interestingly I don't care about what happens with the project at the end. I don't have to have a place in my home for it and in fact don't have the wall space or display space for all the wips I have. But I identifed a lot with the guilt of not working on wips I should work on and also not being an impulsive starter or starting a lot of stuff because others are etc.

Hi Stephanie and Allison I am a project stitcher and enjoy the process of creating the cross stitich and I also like the way a deign comes to life while you are stitching the pattern.

I’m definitely a process stitcher. I basically only stitch full coverage so it’s unlikely I’ll ever finish one but I have tons of non full coverage patterns in case I want to stitch on something “smaller” that I might actually finish But even those are huge lol

I only have 3 projects going at one time and that seems like a lot to me. I am sure as time passes I will waffle between the type of stitcher I am. For me it depends on the project.

✅ Great video! Really enjoyed the discussion. I'm definitely a process stitcher, but that wasn't always the case. I blame flosstube 😂. I associate "product" stitching with "monogamous" stitching and I get too bored with working on just one project. I think my lack of finishing skills and the fear of messing up something that I spent a lot of time on contributes to to this also. I wouldn't have the wall space to frame everything, but I'm not going to let that stop me from stitching. The process itself is soothing and relaxing and that's what is important to me. It's always been the process for me. I often stop and enjoy the play of colors in a leaf or something for long minutes before eventually getting back to stitching. Time is inconsequential. I used to see projects in magazines touting that they would be finished quickly, and I felt sorry for people who thought that mattered. Flosstube has been eye-opening for me, learning that project people genuinely have just as much fun and appreciation as process people. I framed one picture decades ago with a cheap metal frame from the five and dime. Everything else is attached to the walls with thumbtacks or just packed away, and that makes no difference to my enjoyment. Now that I've seen whole walls of beautifully framed cross stitch, though, I'm planning to up my fully-finished game.

But l also feel guilty if I don’t get other WIPs worked on. For a piece I finished I can’t imagine not displaying them, but on the flip side if I decide I’m not enjoying a project, I don’t have a second thought about UFOing it no matter how beautiful the finished piece would be. ✅

Loved this video, fascinating to explore this subject. I am a process stitcher, like you Stephanie I feel a loss when something is finished, just how I feel at the end of a film or book. I currently have x20 WIPs and hope to stay at around this number because I like to regularly touch them all. I'm in WIP Warriors with events that motivate me to touch all the WIPs and I also use my Tiny Decision app sometimes and this stops me focusing on the same few WIPs. I may not be feeling a WIP but I always enjoy it once I get my first few stitches in. I have cross stitched since childhood and yet I only have one small cross stitch on my kitchen wall which is a Jardin Prive design I framed a few months ago. Many are in my loft as are not my style now or in a box waiting to be fully finished someday maybe never. However despite this Allison you will be pleased to know I've taken my first thing to be professionally framed last weekend, my Mary Dodd Patreon stitch by Teresa Kogut. Then there's the headache of where to hang it! ✅💗

✅ 1000% a process stitcher but with some of the guilt a product/project stitch *could* have but in a sustainability context. I have to remind myself that I can have a hobby just to enjoy without worrying about waste responsibility. And out of all the hobbies I could have, cross stitch is pretty eco friendly!

I am definitely a project crafter. I need to have a set purpose for making the thing, whether it's cross stitch, sewing, knitting, or even painting, there has to be a reason why I'm making it. I currently have 6 cross stitch wips, and that feels like a bit much. I think part of it comes from when I was growing up. I love all arts and crafts, but my mum has no interest in anything like that. Every time I made anything creative my mum would always say "So what's that for?" "Because I wanted to" was not a good enough answer, I was wasting supplies😢 Sorry to get deep, but yeah, kids really take stuff to heart. My mum didn't intend to be mean, she just genuinely didn't understand why I would spend time and money making things.

✔️ I'm very much a process crafter. I have so many WIPs it's insane but I do find that once I hit the tipping point in a project I turn into a project crafter where I want the project totally finished (this happens more for me with knitting than cross stitch but it does happen occasionally)

I think I’m somewhere in between… I like finishing but I never do anything with my finishes and I purchase based on learning a new skill or just because I think it’ll be fun… 🤷🏼‍♀️

Process Stitcher, I mostly only FFO if the item is a gift or a small I can make into a little pillow. I rather stitch than lace & foam core +++ my work.

I’m not a product or a process stitcher but a secret third thing: progress stitcher. Lol. I just like working through charts. I’m closer to a process stitcher but I have to be getting progress on a chart or I don’t want it anymore. But then once I’ve finished the chart, I don’t care about the project anymore. I’m just addicted to the finish. ☑️

I'm a mix I think. I want to finnish my projects. However... I really don't care what happens to them afterward. Thinking about doing something with them is the part that does stress me out. I have a very minimalistic sense of Interior Design. On the other point: I like my patterns very colorful and whimsical. I love them. I love to work on them. I just dont want them hang on my walls. :D (Christmas Decor is the only exception...)

I have stitched my whole life -- I grew up very poor & I could only manage a single project in my budget. I feel like it's my privilege to have so many WIPs, and I couldn't manage that for many years. Even now, part of the deep poverty memory, I still feel guilty having too much stash or WIPs. I have stitched things and given them away - even to strangers -- I gave a Peppermint Purple annual SAL to a Reddit Secret Santa, and a blackwork pitbull mandella to my dog Secret Santa.

Really enjoyed this video and conversation. It's a nice summary of some of the things I've been thinking about since finding flosstube. I'm fairly new to cross stitch (started last year). Like Allison, I make some of my choices or limitations based on guilt (or guilt avoidance!). I'm motivated by finishes, but do love the project while I'm stitching it. But I personally can't maintain a lot of WIPs (I have 4 WIPs currently and won't do another start until I wrap one of those up). However, I'm totally at ease changing up colors, possibly because my first projects were totally self drafted. ✔️

When I was younger I didn’t have the time ( working outside the home and 2 children in the home) or the money ( things were tight!) . So I would invest in one project at a time and complete it. As time marched on I had more money ( but not the time) so I purchased more but continued to work on only one at a time. Now I am retired and have the time but not the money! So all those previous purchases are now being worked on! It again was only one at a time until I started watching flosstube. Now I have about 10 going and plans for lots more! Don’t know which stage is the best, but as long as I am cross stitching does it matter?
