The lighter factory is located in Huiting Town, Xiayi County, Shangqiu, Henan Province. It has been established for more than 30 years, covering an area of 300 mu, with a total investment of 500 million yuan and 500 employees. It has injection molding machines, welding machines, aerators, cigarette lighters, automatic copy assembly machines, printing machines, packaging machines, and one-stop production equipment. The rate of defective lighters is low. It mainly produces market machines, advertising lighters, metal iron shell lighters, wind proof lighters, and wind proof blue flame lighters.

When I was a kid, we used to get the peizo-electric spark units shown at 15:26 and fire them off against the coin slots of arcade machines, causing a short circuit inside the coin mechanism, which would then give us free credits for the game. These days, however, it's more likely to reboot the machine. You had to be careful doing it, though, as the electrode could give you quite a jolt if you let it touch you during firing!

请五百个工人的成本，跟购买设备的成本哪个更划算。其实这样规模的厂家才是最清楚的。成本不光是产品本身，甚至还包括。我请几个残疾工人减免的税费。我招聘当地工人，厂区就不会被偷东西。我买设备要考虑停电，维修等频率等等等。综合考虑过后才会是厂家决定采用人工还是设备的原因。如果设备的成本低过人工，那工人自然就会转行。这个趋势不可避免，只是时间问题。

@@xiaopimin_sun 现在是中国还有劳动力，未来没有了就要和发达国家比自动化了，如果没有自动化不足，成本降不下去，那么市场就没了。一个工人不需要，还是能把产品卖出去的时候，剩余的劳动力就可以改行干服务业了。

Interesting to watch. However my concerning question is, since much of this plant is automated, why not automate 95% of it. Then the poor people would be free of this mind numbing repetitiveness! Plus the noise, butane and plastic fumes. This is 2023. We have robotics that should be doing this. Humans are worth more than a 3 cent lighter.

If it were all automated, the poor would lose their jobs, and a large portion of the 1.4 billion people are not rich. Giving them jobs also contributes to social stability

中國大陸的產線是自動化生產。 40年前的中國台灣，瓦斯填充是靠家庭代工的，很多保母帶著幼童一起填充瓦斯。除了打火機以外，還有很多手工活，都是給家庭主婦或保母做的。

It doesn't look like there's much fluid in each lighter. Maybe if they filled them a bit more and charged slightly more for them, then they would hopefully last twice as long and only half that plastic would end up in the bin :(

It needs the room to expand, otherwise you start getting leaks in certain environments. If you are talking about when they put a little to test for leaks, ya, that doesn't look like much liquid, but further in the final manufacturing they do fill them up, but they do need to leave room for expansion nonetheless.

I remember when I worked here, it was a pretty cool time. I got a long good with my coworkers, but not the superiors. We had fist fights and made love. Confusing and smelly.
